Sultan Bin Ahmed appoints top officials at University of Sharjah
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), has issued a decision regarding the appointment of a Chancellor for the UoS. According to the decision, Professor Dr Issam Al Din Ibrahim Ajami is appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah and a member of the University's Board of Trustees. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed also issued a decision appointing Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi as an adviser to the President of the University of Sharjah. According to the decision, Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi is appointed as the adviser to the President of the University of Sharjah, a member of the University's Board of Trustees, and the Director of the Sharjah Academy of Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology. Meanwhile, the University of Sharjah, through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, organised a scientific symposium titled 'AI and Digital Twin for Energy Applications,' in collaboration with the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA). The symposium aimed to highlight the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twin technology, emphasising their role in enhancing energy efficiency and improving institutional services. The event was attended by Prof Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, along with several research center directors, faculty members, students, and representatives from various SEWA departments. The symposium opened with speeches from distinguished representatives of UoS and SEWA. Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, highlighted the strong collaboration between UoS and SEWA across various research fields, emphasising its role in advancing innovation and sustainability. Prof Abdul Ghani Olabi, Director of the Sustainable Energy and Power Systems Research Center, underscored the University's commitment to impactful research in energy applications. Ahmed Aylan Alshamsi, Sustainability Engineer at SEWA, spoke on SEWA's efforts to leverage advanced technologies like AI and digital twins to enhance energy efficiency and services. During the symposium, Prof. Abbes Amira, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of Sharjah, delivered a presentation titled 'Driving Energy Efficiency and Smarter User Behavior with AIoT: AI and Energy Applications.' He addressed technologies and local initiatives involving AI applications across various organisations. Khalid Diab, Customer Service Operations Consultant at SEWA, presented 'Nafaa,' SEWA's AI-powered virtual assistant, which provides fully automated customer support and promptly addresses user needs, ensuring seamless and effective service delivery. Dr Concetta Semeraro from the College of Engineering at UoS discussed the use of digital twin technology for energy applications. The event also featured a panel discussion titled 'The Journey of SEWA's Digital Transformation & Using AI in the Service,' chaired by Prof Fatih Kurugollu, Acting Director of the Cybersecurity and Data Analytics Research Center at UoS. Experts from SEWA and UoS, including Khalid Diab, Anand Subramanian, Prof. Huseyin Seker, and Prof. Mohammad Ali Abdelkareem, discussed SEWA's practical deployment of AI to enhance customer service and achieve key business goals. The panel also addressed critical success factors for implementing AI, the risks associated with its use, and strategies to mitigate them. Additionally, they emphasised the importance of collaboration between industry and academia to drive innovation and explored future developments in AI. In addition, the symposium featured a project exhibition and competition showcasing innovative student work in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital twins, and energy applications. The event concluded with the announcement of the winners, including Students Omar Al Attar, Idriss Taleb, and Ali Ahmad, whose project titled 'Live Analysis RAG AI Chatbot System for DCMD (Direct Contact Membrane Distillation) Process' stood out for its innovation and technical excellence. UOS participates in Arab Universities Conference in Kuwait
Presiding over the University of Sharjah's delegation was His Excellency Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah. The conference agenda was ambitious: fostering academic cooperation, sharing expertise, and exploring opportunities in artificial intelligence, e-learning, and innovation. The discussions reflected a shared determination to propel Arab universities into a future defined by digital transformation and cross-border academic synergy. During meetings held as part of the conference, Prof. Al Nuaimi highlighted the University of Sharjah's unwavering commitment to advancing academic excellence and reinforcing the stature of Arab education on the global stage. He emphasized the University's ongoing efforts to expand its regional and international presence, actively contribute to the development of joint educational and research policies and promote the exchange of academic knowledge and expertise. Participants also discussed strategies to improve university rankings at both the Arab and international levels. During his visit to Kuwait, the University of Sharjah delegation paid a visit to the UAE Embassy, where they were welcomed by Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, the UAE Ambassador to Kuwait. The meeting explored avenues for strengthening academic ties with Kuwaiti institutions, reflecting the University of Sharjah's rapid development and its expanding network of international collaborations. The discussions covered a range of academic topics aimed at furthering higher education and scientific research. In addition, Prof. Al Nuaimi took part in the 56th session of the Executive Council of the Association of Arab Universities, joining fellow university leaders in deliberations that promise to shape the future of higher education in the region.

UOS to host World University Powerlifting Championship
Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah warmly welcomed Remund and his delegation, conveying greetings from His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah. He expressed the university's readiness to organise and host this prestigious global event, emphasising its commitment to excellence in sports and international collaboration. Prof. Al Nuaimi also highlighted the university's successful hosting of the inaugural Asian Universities Powerlifting Cup last year, which was held in partnership with the UAE Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation. UOS holds College of Business advisory council meeting
The meeting opened with a welcome address by His Excellency Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, who on behalf of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, expressed appreciation for the participation of eminent figures in the Advisory Council. He highlighted the invaluable expertise of the council members in advancing the college's academic programs and emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between academia and the industry to enhance the quality of education and professional training for students. The meeting was presided by Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi. At the beginning of the proceedings, His Excellency Ibrahim Salman Al Hammadi, Executive Director of Performance and Government Excellence and General Coordinator of the Sheikh Khalifa Government Excellence Program, was elected Vice Chair of the Advisory Council. In her address, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi underscored the significant progress the UAE has made across various sectors, particularly in higher education, where technology, sustainability, and innovation have become fundamental to curriculum development. She stated that today, universities are preparing their students for the job market through comprehensive, high-quality academic programs. UOS hosts academic delegation from Monash University
Memorandum of Understanding Discussions focused on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two institutions, particularly in the fields of medical and health sciences. The two parties discussed venues of collaboration in scientific research related to healthy aging and geriatric diseases, student and faculty exchange programs, joint supervision of graduate theses, and advanced academic and training programs aligned with the global job market. The talks also explored opportunities for cooperation in innovation, technology, and sustainability projects of mutual interest. Significance of the Partnership His Excellency Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, highlighted the significance of this partnership in enhancing the international standing of the University of Sharjah. He noted that collaboration with Monash University would facilitate the exchange of academic and research expertise while creating new opportunities for students and faculty alike.
