Iowa basketball transfer portal target commits to Big 12 program instead
Iowa basketball transfer portal target commits to Big 12 program instead One of Iowa's top transfer portal targets is headed elsewhere. Former Chattanooga guard Honor Huff announced his commitment to West Virginia on Saturday morning. Huff, the nation's leader in 3-point makes a season ago with 131, thought seriously about Iowa, but he's headed for Big 12 pastures instead. Alongside West Virginia, Iowa joined St. John's, Vanderbilt and Pitt among Huff's finalists. Huff averaged 15.2 points per game while shooting 41.6% from 3-point range. Huff is regarded as a four-star transfer per 247Sports. 247Sports ranks Huff as the No. 253 player nationally and as the No. 44 point guard in the transfer portal. Iowa will now have to turn its attention elsewhere. The Hawkeyes have been linked to former Kansas State guard Brendan Hausen and to former Lincoln Memorial guard Wes Enis out of the Division II ranks. 'Bigs, a point guard and probably shooting. We'll end up with four or five more players, would be my guess. You're going to need enough bigs in the Big Ten from a physicality perspective, just so you don't get overpowered and overwhelmed. "Then you're going to need wing shooting because finishing at the rim at this level is going to be tougher. So, you need to be able to shoot, to be able to stretch defenses consistently. And then another point guard, just to be able to play-make alongside Bennett," Iowa head men's basketball coach Ben McCollum said recently about his remaining plans for the Hawkeyes' roster. Iowa is also hosting last season's Horizon League Player of the Year this weekend for a visit in former Robert Morris big man Alvaro Folgueiras.
