‘What the hell is wrong with her': Reddit reacts to ‘abhorrent' JK Rowling justifying any violence Imane Khelif may face
Author JK Rowling's latest comment on the bullying faced by Algerian boxer and Olympic champion Imane Khelif has left a section of social media furious. Rowling, who was one of several high-profile names who suggested that Imane was born male, has now suggested that if any harm is caused to Imane as a result of her accusations, then the responsibility will fall on those who lied about Imane's sex. (Also read: HBO introduces new Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ronald Weasley from web series; turns off comments) On her X account, JK Rowling shared a news report with the caption, 'The psychological damage done to the young women he punched, while the entire world watched and the sporting establishment jeered, shamed and gaslit them, is naturally of no importance whatsoever.' A user on X asked in response, 'If this poor woman is driven to suicide by your harassment, how will you feel?' In response, Rowling replied, calling Iman a 'he' throughout, 'If any harm befalls Khelif as a result of the truth coming to light, responsibility will lie solely with those who lied about his sex so that he could carry on endangering young women and stripping them of their rightful honours in front of the world's media.' This tweet made its way on Reddit, where several users on the platform slammed the author for making such an insensitive remark. One user commented, 'Imane was born a woman, though, what the f*** is she yapping about? How misogynistic do you have to be to call a non-feminine woman a man? This freak is a disgrace.' Another said, 'It's unfathomable that HBO will want to work with her after this tweet specifically. Yes they're all bad, but this really feels beyond the pale.' 'This is abhorrent. What a miserable, toxic human being,' said another. A comment read, 'Pretty disgusting to say considering JK Rowling has admitted to suffering from suicidal ideation as well. This woman is a husk of a person that is completely devoid of empathy and humanity.' A user wrote, 'Rowling is despicable. Who knew Umbridge was her self-insert?' Last year, Imane Khelif had named Elon Musk and JK Rowling in a cyberbullying lawsuit. Imane won gold in the 66kg division at the Paris Olympics. However, she faced a massive amount of hate on social media, with people accusing her of being transgender or being born male.

Imane Khelif skips upcoming boxing tournament after World Boxing's new sex testing policy
Less than a week after World Boxing announced mandatory sex testing for all athletes, Olympic champion Imane Khelif will be skipping the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands. The Algerian was caught up in controversy last year when she won gold at the Paris Olympics over her eligibility. The boxer reportedly did not register for the upcoming event in time, and applications closed on Thursday. According to AP, tournament media director Dirk Renders, 'The decision of Imane's exclusion is not ours. We regret it.' Meanwhile, Eindhoven mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem criticised World Boxing's latest policy. In a letter to the Dutch Boxing Federation and Inter Boxing Federation, he said, 'As far as we are concerned, all athletes are welcome in Eindhoven. Excluding athletes based on controversial 'gender tests' certainly does not fit in with that.' 'We are expressing our disapproval of this decision today and are calling on the organisation to admit Imane Khelif after all.' Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting were disqualified from the 2023 World Championships by the Russian-dominated IBA, who claimed that the pair failed unspecified eligibility tests. But the IBA has been banished for decades of controversy. The IOC conducted the last two Olympic boxing tournaments instead, using sex eligibility rules used in previous Olympics. Khelif and Lin were eligible, in accordance with IOC rules. Meanwhile in a letter, Algerian Federation president said, 'I am writing to you following the recent World Boxing statement referencing Imane Khelif being excluded from competing in the forthcoming Eindhoven Box Cup 5-10 June 2025.' 'As part of World Boxing's communications activity around this decision, Imane was identified by name. I am writing to you all personally to offer a formal and sincere apology for this and acknowledge that her privacy should have been protected. To offer some broader context on this, the statement was intended as part of a wider announcement relating to the planned introduction of mandatory sex testing as part of a new policy on 'Sex Age and Weight' that World Boxing is in process of finalising. 'This policy is intended to apply universally to all male and female athletes and is designed to ensure the safety of all participants and deliver a competitive level playing field for all men and women.'

Cause of death revealed for 3 Revere women found dead in their hotel room in Belize
The families of three Revere women who were found dead in their hotel room while vacationing in Belize released a statement on Wednesday night revealing their cause of death. In a joint statement, the families of 23-year-old Kaoutar Naqqad, 26-year-old Wafae El-Arar, and 26-year-old Imane Mallah said officials with the United States Embassy in Belize informed them that all of the young women died from acute carbon monoxide poisoning, likely caused by a faulty water heater. 'While we remain shattered by the loss of these three bright lights in our world, we are incredibly heartened by the results of this investigation and grateful to those who completed it in a thorough and independent manner,' the families said. The new details come after weeks of speculation about their deaths, including speculation that the women may have suffered overdoses, with a news outlet in Belize reporting that gummies and alcohol were found in the room. The families noted that they are still awaiting the results of a separate independent review being done by authorities in Massachusetts. 'We have said since the beginning of this investigation that their deaths were suspicious and raised concerns about initial reports in the news media,' the families said. 'While today's official finding puts to rest those initial reports, we hope this will give authorities in law enforcement pause before they make similar suggestions during future investigations. Survivors such as our families deserve their best, honest work. We received it today but needed it throughout this investigative process.' The victims' families also asked Belize authorities to continue looking into their own practices and how hotel management handled the deaths of the three women. 'Our families remain incredibly grateful to the outpouring of support we have received from family, friends, leaders, and loved ones since their passing,' the statement added. 'Our families ask for continued prayers, patience, and privacy as we navigate this unimaginable loss. May their beautiful souls rest in eternal peace. We will forever love and miss you, Kaoutar, Imane, and Wafae.' The three women were described as lifelong friends and were found dead in their hotel room at the resort in February. Kaoutar, Imane, and Wafae were young professionals in the medical field and part of a tight-knit community. 'These young women were valued members of our community, and while the gravity of this tragedy weighs heavily on us all, I am grateful for the diligence of our state and federal partners in ensuring that a proper investigation was conducted and brought the truth to light,' Revere Mayor Patrick M. Keefe Jr. said. GoFundMe pages have been set up on behalf of each of the three families linked to the tragedy. Download the FREE Boston 25 News app for breaking news alerts. ‘Deeply alarmed': Families of 3 Revere women found dead in Belize call for answers
The families of three young women from Revere found dead in Belize are still searching for answers. Kaoutar Naqqad, 23, Wafae El-Arar, 26, and Imane Mallah, 26, were found dead inside the Royal Kahal Beach Resort in San Pedro in February. Local authorities suggested they suffered drug overdoses but their families say they believe the deaths were suspicious and they are concerned that the toxicology results have not been released. 'We continue to believe the deaths of Wafae, Imane and Kaoutar are suspicious,' a statement from the families said. 'We are hopeful the authorities will fulfill their responsibility to complete their reviews in a timely but thorough manner to ensure we know the full truth about what caused this tragedy.' 'Unclear and suspicious': Families of Revere women found dead in Belize still searching for answers They also said they are worried about reports of high carbon monoxide levels at the hotel where the women were found. 'We are concerned that toxicology results, which Belizean authorities initially indicated would be available within two weeks, have not yet been released to the families,' the families aid. 'As the lead investigative authority, Belizean officials have a critical responsibility to thoroughly and transparently determine what caused this tragedy.' 'We are deeply alarmed by news reports which suggest that carbon monoxide levels in the hotel could have been at dangerously high levels and that the resort has now suddenly closed without public explanation. We believe the families of all guests – past and future – deserve a clear explanation for this action,' the statement continued. 'We respectfully urge the resort's management and Belizean authorities to share any information they have immediately, so that no other family has to endure the unimaginable pain we must now bear. Our loved ones deserve transparency and all who visit Belize, especially the resort, deserve to know they are safe.' The Royal Kahal Beach Report shutdown earlier this month, citing an issue for the closure. Investigators have told Boston 25 the circumstances of their deaths are still unclear. 'Our families are incredibly grateful to the outpouring of support we have received from family, friends, leaders and loved ones since their passing. We appreciate the privacy that has been extended to our families as we grieve and are also grateful to the media who have helped ensure that Wafae, Imane, Kaoutar and the impact of their loss are a central part of your news coverage,' the families shared. 'Our families ask for continued prayers, patience, and privacy as we navigate this unimaginable loss. May their beautiful souls rest in eternal peace. We will forever love and miss you, Kaoutar, Imane and Wafae.' The Massachusetts Medical Examiner is conducting autopsies. Revere Mayor Patrick Keefe warned against a rush to judgment as he pushed for more transparency in the investigation. The women were young professionals in the medical field and part of a tight-knit community, officials said. The Department of State issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Belize in December 2024 due to an increased risk for crime. GoFundMe pages have been set up on behalf of each of the three families linked to the tragedy. Download the FREE Boston 25 News app for breaking news alerts. Mass. medical examiner's office to review deaths of three Revere women in Belize
Police Commissioner Chester Williams told Belizean media that investigators found vomit beside the women's bodies, suggesting a drug overdose. He said that autopsy results were inconclusive. Friends of the three women, who were of Moroccan descent, have expressed doubt about the possibility that they overdosed, noting that at least one of them made a point of abstaining from drugs and alcohol. Advertisement 'When I graduated, Imane didn't want me to go to a party, she said she didn't want to go because there would be drinking there,' Hajar El Khalfaoui told WCVB-TV. 'That was the kind of person she was. So when they said that it was OD, I will never believe that was true.' The death of the three women has stunned 'I have heard widespread concern from the families and community members about the lack of transparency in this investigation, and the media narrative painted by Belizean authorities,' Revere Mayor Patrick Keefe said in a statement this week. Al-Marhama Islamic Burial Services in Brighton said Thursday it would handle the bodies once they arrived in the United States. State investigators had not received the bodies as of Friday morning, Driscoll said. On Thursday, Kaoutar Naqqad's sister, Nisrine Naqqad, of Tewksbury, said that 'as soon as they have landed and are buried, we are going to provide all of the information we got from the investigation. But for now, we want to wait until everything is done.' Advertisement The US State Department is 'in touch with and collaborating closely with the local authorities' investigation into the deaths,' a department spokesperson said Thursday. The three friends were graduates of Revere and Malden high schools. El Arar was a gynecologic research technician based out of Massachusetts General Hospital, while Mallah worked at a Charlestown-based private security firm.
