Safety harness compulsory for kids on two-wheelers in M'luru
Mangaluru: Mangaluru city police will monitor parents who travel on two-wheelers with children below four years without safety gear. According to deputy commissioner of police (crime & traffic) K Ravi Shankar, carrying children below four years on two-wheelers without safety harnesses constitutes a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. "As per the Supreme Court direction, a safety harness is compulsory for children below four years, and those riding two-wheelers should wear quality helmets with ISI marks, and also tie a safety harness around the child's waist. Hence, people should follow these guidelines and adhere to the law," the DCP said. The DCP also clarified that wearing seatbelts is mandatory for all car occupants, including rear-seat passengers. Instead of intercepting cars on roads, the traffic police will use artificial intelligence cameras to monitor and impose penalties on violators. Mangaluru city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said 75 people died in various road accidents in the city limits this year. Out of these, 70 fatalities occurred due to rash and negligent driving. The majority of the deceased were youth under 30 years old. The commissioner emphasised the importance of responsible driving and warned that rash and negligent driving can lead to accidents. Highlighting the dangers of drunk driving, the top cop cited a recent incident wherein two people, including NSUI district vice-president Omshree Poojary, died in a road accident caused by a drunk driver. The commissioner noted that the driver was booked under sections 185 and 183 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, which can attract a fine up to Rs 10,000.

Drunk driving and overspeeding led to fatal Jeppinamogaru accident: Police
The Mangaluru City Police on Thursday said that the accident that happened at Jeppinamogaru in the early hours of Wednesday, in which the car driver Aman Rao, 22 and a passenger Om Shree, 24, died, and two others sustained injuries, was due to drunk driving and over-speeding. Rao, son of a businessman, and Om Shree, vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the National Students' Union of India, along with two others, Ashish, 23, and a foreign national, Jerry, 23, were returning to the city from Talapady in the wee hours of Wednesday. Rao, who was at the wheel, lost control over the vehicle and hit the median of the Kochi-Panvel National Highway 66 at Jeppinamogaru. Traffic South Police had registered cases of 'rash and negligent driving and 'causing death by negligence' under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samihta and a case of drink and drive under the provisions of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. A release by the City Police Commissioner on Thursday said that during the investigation, it was found that the car driver was overspeeding and was under the influence of alcohol. It was to caution the public that the chances of accidents were higher when one drives under the influence of alcohol, thereby causing irreparable loss and damage to one's family and dependents. If a person is found driving under the influence of alcohol, a case under Section 185 of the IMV is booked against the driver, entailing a penalty of ₹10,000, the release stated. Overspeeding also contributes to accidents and attracts a fine of ₹1,000 for light motor vehicles and ₹2,000 for heavy vehicles under Section 183 of the IMV, it stated. The police advised the public against overspeeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Schoolchildren at Risk: Bengaluru Police Nab 58 Drunk School Bus Drivers, Seize Vehicles
Bengaluru police news: Bengaluru Traffic Police, in a major initiative to enforce safety, conducted a special patrol on Monday morning. The goal was to check Bengaluru school bus drivers drunk driving. The operation, which lasted between 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, saw 58 school vehicle drivers booked for drunk driving. Licenses likely to be cancelled During the surprise checks, 4,559 drivers of school vehicles were tested in the city. Of these, 58 driver to be under the influence of alcohol. They were prosecuted immediately for violating the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. The move is a result of a directive from the Karnataka High Court dated April 2 which ordered the state government in three months to develop a legal framework for the operation of bike taxis. RTOs have been notified to suspend the driving licenses of these errant motorists. Police said that they will continue to conduct special drives to enforce traffic laws and maintain school bus safety India. In response to growing concerns about student safety, the authorities in the city have implemented a strict drunk driving crackdown Bengaluru regarding school transportation. In recent months, a number of school buses were scrutinized for violating traffic laws and driving recklessly. Bengaluru Police increased their monitoring after receiving repeated complaints from parents and school administrators. The authorities have announced that they will conduct unannounced citywide inspections on a regular schedule, warning that drivers who violate the regulations may risk their licenses being revoked. "We made this decision in order to use sections of the JJ Act if we find repeated Bengaluru traffic violations. So far, we haven't found any such cases. "We are writing to the school administrations to ask them to take action," he added.

Pedestrian dies in road accident in killed Karnataka
Representative image UDUPI: A pedestrian died in an accident reported in Kaup police station limits on Tuesday. The deceased is Dhananjay, 46. According to the police, the complainant noticed that around 8:50 p.m., on the one-way stretch of National Highway 66 (Mangaluru–Udupi route), he saw a lorry hit a man who was waiting to cross the road. Rushing to the spot, he found the victim was an acquaintance and a resident of Fisheries Road, Muluru. He suffered grievous injuries. Meanwhile, he noticed that after stopping the lorry a short distance ahead, the driver fled with the vehicle. However, the lorry registration number was noted. The victim was immediately rushed to Udupi District Govt Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS and Section 134(a & b) of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act.
