Safety harness compulsory for kids on two-wheelers in M'luru
"As per the Supreme Court direction, a safety harness is compulsory for children below four years, and those riding two-wheelers should wear quality helmets with ISI marks, and also tie a safety harness around the child's waist. Hence, people should follow these guidelines and adhere to the law," the DCP said.
The DCP also clarified that wearing seatbelts is mandatory for all car occupants, including rear-seat passengers.
Instead of intercepting cars on roads, the traffic police will use artificial intelligence cameras to monitor and impose penalties on violators.
Mangaluru city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said 75 people died in various road accidents in the city limits this year. Out of these, 70 fatalities occurred due to rash and negligent driving. The majority of the deceased were youth under 30 years old.
The commissioner emphasised the importance of responsible driving and warned that rash and negligent driving can lead to accidents. Highlighting the dangers of drunk driving, the top cop cited a recent incident wherein two people, including NSUI district vice-president Omshree Poojary, died in a road accident caused by a drunk driver.
The commissioner noted that the driver was booked under sections 185 and 183 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, which can attract a fine up to Rs 10,000.

BJP municipal council chairman held on bribe charges
Jind: In BJP-ruled Haryana, the anti-corruption bureau on Saturday nabbed BJP leader and Julana Municipal Council chairman Dr Sanjay Jangra over an alleged bribe of Rs 2.27 lakh. His receptionist was arrested for allegedly accepting the cash. According to the ACB DSP, a contractor from Bhiwani, Manoj, filed a complaint alleging that Jangra was demanding a commission of 2.5% in exchange for clearing payments. On the basis of this information, ACB formed a raiding team and gave the complainant Rs 2.27 lakh marked with powder. When the complainant spoke with Jangra, he allegedly directed him to hand over the money to his hospital receptionist. As soon as the complainant handed over the cash to receptionist Satbir, the ACB team caught him with the money. The ACB team detained Jangra for questioning and seized a DVR from the spot. When Satbir's hands were washed, the powder turned his hands red, confirming the bribe transaction, said officials. A DSP-vigilance at Bhiwani said the contractor undertook work worth Rs 10 crore in Julana, out of which 50% was completed. The matter is under investigation and the suspects will be produced in court, where the entire case will be revealed, the DSP said. Dr Jangra has been living in Julana for 35 years, having opened a hospital in 1984, soon after completing his MBBS. Student dies in mishap at time of I-Day function in Jodhpur
1 2 Jodhpur: A 12-year-old school student died here after being hit by a dumper truck early morning on Independence Day, while three other students accompanying him were seriously injured. All four were heading to their school on one motorcycle. Enraged family members and local residents staged a protest and blocked the road at Panchbatti Chowk. They were joined by Congress leaders to support their demands. They demanded strict action against the guilty dumper driver, along with compensation, an impartial investigation, and a job for one member of the family. SUV kills contractor on stationary bike, rams parked truck
Times News Network New Delhi: A 40-year-old contractor, a father of five and the lone breadwinner of his family, died after allegedly being hit by an SUV in west Delhi's Moti Nagar around 1am on Saturday. Bechu Lal was seated on his bike and speaking on the phone when a Mahindra Thar roared in from behind. Such was the impact that the bike and the SUV then crashed into a truck parked nearby. Lal died instantly while the SUV driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind. Police said a liquor bottle was found in it. This is the second fatal accident involving a Thar in a week in the capital. With Lal gone, it will be extremely difficult for the family to manage their day-to-day expenses and continue the children's education."
