"Impressive to see nation come together against terrorism": Indian diaspora in Tokyo
Tokyo (Japan), May 24 (ANI): An all-party delegation of Indian Members of Parliament (MPs) is currently visiting various nations as part of the Operation Sindoor global outreach. Speaking from Tokyo, members of the Indian diaspora expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasising unity against terrorism and praising India's diplomatic efforts. Swapnali, a member of the Indian diaspora who has been living in Japan for the last 20 years, said, 'We want peace. People from different parties and communities should come together and speak in one voice against terrorism, which we saw here in Tokyo. The enemy will never forget India's response...' Niharika Jisnu, a 19-year-old first-year university student in Japan, added, 'It is very impressive to see the nation that is viewed as politically diverse coming together as one nation to fight against the Pahalgam terrorist attack.' Another diaspora member appreciated the diplomatic aspect of the outreach, stating, 'Operation Sindoor was an excellent response and we are now doing diplomacy by sending the parliamentarians to the major countries that we deal with. This is a very good initiative and they are doing an excellent job...' The all-party delegation's visits aim to strengthen international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism, reflecting India's unified stand on global security issues. Highlighting this resolve, BJP MP Brij Lal, part of the delegation visiting Japan, underscored the extensive evidence linking Pakistan to numerous terror attacks in India during his interaction with the Indian community in Tokyo on Saturday (local time). Lal underscored the impact of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism on India's development, citing specific incidents and the strategic response under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's zero-tolerance policy. He stated that a country can't be developed without peace, noting that Pakistan has been causing all these terror attacks to disrupt the peace in India. 'A country becomes developed when there is peace, there is law and order. If there is no law and order, one can't be developed. No investor would like to come here... Pakistan has always tried to create such disturbances, so no investors come to the country... There have been a number of incidents of Pakistan doing terrorist attacks in our country... There are terrorist organisations in Pakistan, mainly Jaish-e-Mohammed, headed by Masood Azhar; Lashkar-e-Taiba, headed by Hafiz Saeed; and Hizbul Mujahideen, headed by Syed Salahuddin. Apart from that, there are many other organisations,' he stated. Further, he highlighted several instances when Pakistan-sponsored terrorism attacks occurred in different parts of India. 'Also on the orders of Pakistan's ISI and its government, they created the Indian Mujahideen... It was the proxy of LeT... Indian Mujahideen attacked the Indian Science Congress in 2005 in Bangalore, as they couldn't attack ISRO due to high security at the place... A professor of IIT Delhi was killed... On 1st January, 2008, they attacked and killed seven CRPF personnel and we captured all the terrorists, out of which two were Pakistanis,' Brij Lal said. 'In 26/11, 171 people were killed, out of which two were IPS Officers... We captured Kasab, who was from Pakistan... Pakistan denied it, but Pakistani media went to Kasab's village there... We have a lot of evidence (against Pakistan)... They continued their attacks to make the Country unsafe so that no one comes to the Country... My point is there is a lot of evidence against Pakistan,' Lal added. Highlighting India's response against terrorism under PM Modi, the BJP MP said, 'When PM Modi came (to power) in 2014, he had a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, and accordingly, we did a surgical strike in 2016, did the same in 2019 in Balakot and again retaliated on April 22... They know they can't win against India one-on-one. So they planned to give 1000 cuts to India so that India bleeds... but now we have taken the decision and attacked with precision... It is a war... Whenever there is terrorism, we will consider it as war.' Lal is part of the delegation led by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha, which includes Ambassador Mohan Kumar, BJP MP Dr Hemang Joshi, CPI(M) MP John Brittas, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, BJP MP Brij Lal, and BJP MP Pradan Baruah and TMC Abhishek Banerjee. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Indian Armed Forces responded effectively to subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. The two countries have reached an understanding to stop military action following a call made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. (ANI)

Jharkhand ATS nabs Indian Mujahideen operative from Dhanbad, uncovers Hizb ut Tahrir links
Ranchi: The Jharkhand Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a suspected terrorist from the Bhuli area in Dhanbad district, officials said on Thursday. According to officials, the suspected terrorist, identified as Amaar Yasar, was earlier linked to the banned outfit Indian Mujahideen and had recently become active in anti-national activities under the banner of another proscribed organisation, Hizb ut Tahrir. Jharkhand Director General of Police Anurag Gupta said: "Amaar Yasar was arrested from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in 2014 for his involvement with Indian Mujahideen. After securing bail, he resumed subversive activities and joined Hizb ut Tahrir in May 2024. He has three cases registered against him in Jaipur and Jodhpur related to terror activities and is currently being interrogated." The arrest comes just days after the Jharkhand ATS apprehended four individuals linked to Hizb ut Tahrir in coordinated raids across Wasseypur and other parts of Dhanbad. Those arrested include Gulfam Hass of Wasseypur, Aayan Javed from Azad Nagar Aman Society, his wife Shabnam Parveen of Shamsher Nagar, and Mohammad Shahzad Alam. During the raids, ATS recovered two pistols, 12 rounds of ammunition, extremist literature, documents associated with banned outfits, and over half a dozen mobile phones and laptops. Investigations revealed that the group was working to establish a separate module aimed at expanding the terror network in the region. Sources in the ATS say the suspects were motivated by Hizb ut Tahrir's radical ideology, which calls for the establishment of a global Islamic Caliphate. The organisation, founded in Jerusalem in 1953, was banned by the Indian government in 2010 due to its extremist agenda and efforts to undermine national security. The ATS is continuing its investigation and has launched a manhunt for others believed to be part of the same network.

Deven Bharti: Top Mumbai cop who took on Indian Mujahideen, cracked high-profile cases
The 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was serving as the special commissioner of the Mumbai police, a new post created in 2023, before his elevation as the chief of the 50,000-strong force in the country's financial capital. Admired for his meticulous investigating skills and dedication towards the force, Bharti (56), who took charge of his new post on Wednesday evening, brings a wealth of experience with him as he occupies one of the most coveted, and also challenging, jobs in the country's security establishment. Mumbai, Apr 30 (PTI) New Mumbai police commissioner Deven Bharti is credited with dismantling terror modules linked to Indian Mujahideen, a homegrown outfit, and cracking down on underworld elements besides being a part of probe into the 26/11 attacks during his high-profile career. It was in October 2008 when a Mumbai police crime branch team consisting of a handful of officials landed in Mangaluru, Karnataka, in their hunt for key Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives Yasin Bhatkal and Riyaz Bhatkal. As there was a delay in obtaining support from local police for their mission, an officer in the team contacted Bharti, then-Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Mumbai, and discussed the issue. Wasting no time, Bharti, along with two more officers, landed in the coastal city the same day and obtained help from the Mangaluru police. Armed with an AK-47 rifle, Bharti, along with his team, entered a house from where police recovered four hand grenades and apprehended four IM members. It was due to Bharti's intervention that the Karnataka police provided more than 120 of its personnel, vehicles, and bulletproof jackets to the Mumbai crime branch team in their mission to track and smash IM-linked terror modules. During his three decades-old career, Bharti had been known for launching crackdowns not only on underworld elements, but also the network of IM, an outfit involved in a series of bomb blasts across the country, including Maharashtra and Gujarat. Among the four IM operatives arrested from Mangaluru under Bharti's watch, two were later sentenced to death by a court in a terror case related to the bomb attacks in Surat. Bharti was also responsible for the detection of many high-profile cases, including 26/11, the murder of journalist J Dey, the Farid Tanasha case, the Chhote Miya murder case and the Asif Dadhi case. While investigating the 26/11 attacks, Bharti, along with Senior Police Inspectors Arun Chavan and Dinesh Kadam, went to the USA, where they worked for 10 days to gather evidence against Pakistan's role in the November 2008 strikes. Bharti, along with his team, was at the hotel Taj Mahal Palace in south Mumbai during the 26/11 attacks and was guiding NSG teams conducting operations against terrorists holed up there. As Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Bharti was also part of the team that was involved in the execution of 26/11 convict Mohammed Ajmal Kasab. After becoming Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), one of his longest stints in the Mumbai police, he gave powers to local police stations. He also worked on tackling cyber and financial crimes. However, Bharti has had his own share of controversies during his long stint in the police service. Former Mumbai Police commissioner Sanjay Pandey, in an inquiry report, had alleged that Bharti had connections with criminals linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his network. However, the report, based on claims by a convicted criminal, was rejected by the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government after it came to power in 2022 following the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) regime. Bharti found himself in another controversy after an FIR was filed against him for not registering a case against BJP leader Hyder Azam's wife for allegedly producing fake documents for her passport. This also happened during the MVA regime (November 2019-June 2022). However, the IPS officer's name was not mentioned in the chargesheet filed in the case. The new Mumbai police commissioner is an avid reader and is active on social media. Bharti has a collection of Hindi, English and Marathi books and often posts quotes and couplets of well-known poets on his social media handle.
