Meta apologises for faulty Kannada translation implying CM Siddaramaiah ‘passed away', says it ‘fixed issue'
Social media giant Meta, run by Mark Zuckerberg, has apologised for inaccurately translating Kannada, claiming that it has fixed the issue. Meta's apology comes days after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah raised concerns over wrong auto-translation of Kannada texts on its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. Siddaramaiah had earlier raised serious concerns about Kannada content being wrongly translated on Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram, saying it was leading to distortion of facts that were misleading to users. "We fixed an issue that briefly caused this inaccurate Kannada translation. We apologize that this happened," a Meta spokesperson said. Meta's apology came after the Chief Minister's office posted in Kannada about Siddaramaiah paying respects B Saroja Devi. Meta translated it as, 'Chief Minister Siddaramaiah passed away yesterday multilingual star, senior actress B Took darshan of Sarojadevi's earthly body and paid his last respects.' Slamming Meta, Siddaramaiah noted that social media platforms should be acting responsibly, especially when it deals with official communication. He also warned citizens to be aware that translations on Fecebook and Intagram may be inaccurate. "Faulty auto-translation of Kannada content on Meta platforms is distorting facts and misleading users. This is especially dangerous when it comes to official communication. My media advisor has formally written to Meta urging immediate correction," Siddaramaiah posted on 'X'. "Social media platforms must act responsibly. I caution citizens to be aware that translations shown are often inaccurate. Such negligence by tech giants can harm public understanding and trust," he added. In an email sent to Meta on July 16, the chief minister's media advisor, K V Prabhakar, raised serious concerns on behalf of the CM regarding the automatic translation of Kannada content on Facebook and Instagram. The Karnataka government has asked Meta to temporarily suspend the auto-translation feature for Kannada content until translation accuracy is reliably improved. Machine translations are shown to users in various instances on Facebook and Instagram, including public biographical info and specific pieces of content. In the case of Kannada auto-translation, Meta's AI machine translation model provided a machine translation error which caused inaccurate Kannada translations in Facebook-- which the company claims to have been fixed now.

Sardaar Ji 3 Row: After Calling Diljit Dosanjh "Fake", Mika Singh Asks Him To Apologise For "Mistake"
Day after attacking Diljit Dosanjh for his decision to release Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Pakistani actor Hania Aamir, overseas, Mika Singh said Diljit will be forgiven for his "mistake" if he apologises and remove all "objectionable" scenes from the film. Mika Singh, earlier, slammed Diljit as "fake" singer who betrayed his fans' trust. What's Happening Mika Singh shared a new post on Instagram and wrote, "Guys, I understand, we all make mistakes in life. But when we do, there's one simple word that holds power: Sorry. If Diljit made a mistake, we're all willing to forgive. But he must apologise and remove all the objectionable scenes from the movie! That's it. No hate. Just respect. Desh pehle!" On Tuesday night (June 24), Mika Singh attacked Diljit Dosanjh over not withholding his decision to release Sardaar Ji 3 overseas, despite triggering social media backlash and threats from film bodies. "Before releasing any content that involves artists from across the border, they should think twice-especially when our nation's dignity is involved. "There was a film featuring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor that many of us opposed, and yet, some still don't seem to get the message. What's more shocking is that a fake singer, after doing 10 shows in India with thousands of fans buying tickets, had now disappeared - leaving fans betrayed and helpless," Mika wrote in his previous Intagram post. Mika was referring to Diljit's successful Dil-Luminati world tour in the post. Background Diljit's upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3 landed in trouble after the trailer released on Sunday (June 22) and it featured Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, film body like the Federation of Western India Cine Employees banned Pakistani artistes working in India. Diljit, who's one of the producers of the film, skipped the film's India release. The film is slated to release overseas (including Pakistan) on June 27. Defending his decision to release the film, Diljit Dosanjh, during a conversation with BBC Asian Network, said that producers' heft money was invested in the film. The shooting was done much before the Pahalgam attack happened, said the Punjabi singer. In A Nutshell

Instagram for iPad coming soon, likely by the end of this year
Meta just surprised iPad fans by finally launching an official WhatsApp app for iPad — and now it looks like Instagram is next in line. According to reports, Meta is actively developing and testing a native Instagram app for iPad, with a public release expected by the end of this year if all goes smoothly. The news comes from several reports including The Information's Kaya Yurieff and Kalley Huang, who first revealed Meta's plans back in April, and it was recently confirmed by Bloomberg's Mark to Gurman, Meta employees are already actively testing the iPad version of Instagram, and unless there are major setbacks, it should be available to the public before the end of 2024. For more than a decade, Instagram has been a glaring omission on the iPad. Particularly given that Instagram is all about visual content — photos, videos, and Stories that are simply better enjoyed on a bigger users have had to make do with the zoomed-in iPhone version of the app, which never truly took advantage of the iPad's larger and more immersive display. But why did Meta leave iPad users waiting for so long? Some tech insiders point to a mix of technical and personal reasons. On the technical side, Instagram's earlier focus on lower-resolution photos meant that images could appear pixelated or blurry on the iPad's high-resolution display. However, there's also been some behind-the-scenes drama. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's Tim Cook have had ongoing tensions, particularly after public disputes over privacy and Apple's App Store policies. Some reports suggest that the lack of iPad support may have been a subtle way for Meta to push back against Apple. But with the recent release of WhatsApp for iPad, it seems Meta is finally ready to move past old grudges and focus on what users actually also seems to be a strategic angle here. According to Gurman, previous concerns around image quality on larger screens contributed to the delay. However, now Instagram itself has evolved, and it supports high-resolution images, widescreen videos, and longer-form content that's perfect for tablet browsing. Additionally, competition from platforms like YouTube Shorts and TikTok — which already has an iPad app and continues to draw younger users — has also likely given Instagram a push to not make its iPad users feel left out. With WhatsApp now on iPad, Meta is likely to bring the Intagram soon to keep users engaged and grow both its audience and Meta employees are reportedly going 'full steam ahead,' says Gurman, with internal testing. Unless there are unexpected setbacks, the Instagram app for iPad should be available before the year ends. While there's no word yet on whether Meta will also bring its Threads app to iPad, Instagram's arrival alone is a big deal— especially for users who enjoy editing and browsing photos on a larger screen.

Our goal is that, within 5 years, no one sleeps on the street.' Prior to their move, Gere expressed his excitement for the next chapter. 'Her grandmother was kind of the glue that held that all together, and the grandmother passed away about a year and a half ago, two years ago. 'So my wife, I can see her morphing into the new grandmother of this extended family. She's already planning for, you know, 35 people for Sunday lunches.' In March, Gere celebrated his first Spanish Father's Day, with Silva sharing a slew of photos to Instagram in honor of the momentous day. Silva sweetly wrote across one of the shots, 'Happy 1st Spanish Father's Day to the dad of the world.'
