Telangana temporarily shelves plan for counselling-based admissions to management quota seats
Hyderabad: The state govt appears to have temporarily shelved its plan to fill management seats in engineering colleges through the counselling process. The proposal was introduced last year after the Higher Education Council received numerous complaints regarding management and NRI seats being sold at exorbitant rates. "It seems highly unlikely that we will be able to conduct counselling for management and NRI seats this year," said an official from the Telangana Council of Higher Education. In the state, there are approximately 80,000 engineering seats. Of these, 70% are filled under the convenor quota through counselling, while the remaining 30% fall under the management and NRI quotas. According to the regulations, management quota seats are to be filled only after convenor quota seats have been allotted through counselling, following the issuance of a formal notification, and based on JEE, EAPCET, or Intermediate examination marks. "Colleges are required to fill even management and NRI seats on the basis of merit. However, very few follow these rules. Seats are awarded to students willing to pay the highest amount, regardless of their academic credentials," said Praveen Kumar, a faculty member at a private engineering college. With the exception of a few institutions, the majority do not adhere to the rules when filling seats under the B and C categories. These seats are often sold well in advance of the convenor quota admissions, in an effort to maximise profits.

Shauna Lynch confident Cavan can build on successful start to the season
Cavan captain Shauna Lynch is confident her county can build on their success in the league and the Ulster championship ahead of the All-Ireland. After a difficult couple of seasons, which saw Cavan relegated to Intermediate in 2023, and then to Division Three, the county already has two pieces of silverware under its belt. Advertisement After winning Division Three, Cavan defeated Down in the Intermediate Ulster final to go into this weekend's group three clash with Monaghan with further momentum. Ahead of the All-Ireland, Lynch is confident Cavan can keep this up, but knows how challenging the championship will be. "You are looking at all three groups where you can't pick a winner out of, which is unbelievable. "I think it is pushing teams on at training. From a national level, everyone is saying how competitive it is and how great it is for ladies football. Advertisement "Getting back to senior would be absolutely massive for Cavan. When we sat down at the start of the year, that was a goal in the future, and we have had an unbelievable start to the year, which has put us on the right track to getting Cavan back to where we think they should be." While the likes of Kerry and Armagh are out of Cavan's reach at the moment, Lynch is hoping her county will use them as inspiration for building on league victories. The Cavan captain is also keen to remind people of how strongly the county competed with the top sides of the country in the past, and is using it as motivation for the rest of the season. "Back when I first started playing with Cavan, we would have played the likes of Armagh, and we would have beaten them. "You look at how far they have come on, and it is unbelievable. You would hope it will inspire us to get back up to that level."

Zacks Industry Outlook Highlights Natural Gas Services, Solaris Energy and Oil States International
Chicago, IL – May 28, 2025 – Today, Zacks Equity Research discusses Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. NGS, Solaris Energy Infrastructure, Inc. SEI and Oil States International, Inc. OIS. Industry: Oil & Gas Equipment Link: Rising oil production that may surpass the yearly demand growth of the commodity will probably drag down prices. This will hurt demand for drilling and production equipment as explorers and producers will be reluctant to produce more of the commodity, creating a challenging outlook for the Zacks Oil and Gas- Mechanical and Equipment industry. Companies striving to navigate these industry challenges include Natural Gas Services Group, Inc., Solaris Energy Infrastructure, Inc. and Oil States International, Inc. The Zacks Oil and Gas - Mechanical and Equipment industry comprises companies that provide necessary oilfield equipment — production machinery, pumps, valves and several other drilling appliances like rig components — to exploration and production companies. These help upstream energy players extract crude oil and natural gas from fields, both onshore and offshore. Hence, the well-being of oilfield equipment businesses is positively correlated to expenditures by upstream companies. These companies receive deals from integrated energy firms and independent as well as national oil and gas companies. Oilfield equipment providers also design, manufacture, engineer and install products used to treat and process crude oil, natural gas and others. Their products comprise gadgets and instruments for gas compression packages and water treatment works. : The U.S. Energy Information Administration ('EIA') is expecting the West Texas Intermediate Spot Average price for 2025 and 2026 at $61.81 per barrel and $55.24 per barrel, respectively. The prices are significantly lower than the $76.60 per barrel price for 2024. EIA cited the increasing production volumes of the commodity to overcome yearly crude oil demand growth as the reason for lower oil prices. Thus, a lower pricing environment of the commodity is unlikely to provide incentives for more exploration and production activities, consequently leading to diminished demand for drilling and production equipment of companies in the industry. Exploration and production companies are becoming more conservative in their capital expenditures for upstream operations. This shift is driven by shareholders who want these companies to prioritize returning capital over increasing spending on production. This trend is likely to diminish demand for drilling and production equipment. : The composite stocks belonging to the industry have consistently been generating lower dividend yield than the oil energy sector over the past five years. Thus, investors looking for a healthy dividend yield may avoid stocks belonging to the industry. The Zacks Oil and Gas - Mechanical and Equipment is a 11-stock group within the broader Zacks Oil - Energy sector. The industry currently carries a Zacks Industry Rank #206, which places it in the bottom 16% of more than 250 Zacks industries. The group's Zacks Industry Rank, which is basically the average of the Zacks Rank of all the member stocks, indicates dull near-term prospects. Our research shows that the top 50% of the Zacks-ranked industries outperform the bottom 50% by a factor of more than 2 to 1. Before we present a few stocks that you may want to consider, let's take a look at the industry's recent stock market performance and valuation picture. The Zacks Oil and Gas - Mechanical and Equipment industry has outperformed the broader Zacks Oil - Energy sector but lagged the Zacks S&P 500 composite over the past year. The industry has declined 3.9% in the past year compared with the broader sector's fall of 4.6% and the S&P 500's 10.8% increase. Since oilfield equipment providers are debt-laden, valuing them based on the EV/EBITDA (Enterprise Value/Earnings before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortization) ratio makes sense. This is because the valuation metric takes into account not just equity but also the level of debt. For capital-intensive companies, EV/EBITDA is a better valuation metric because it is not influenced by changing capital structures and ignores the effect of non-cash expenses. On the basis of the trailing 12-month enterprise value-to-EBITDA (EV/EBITDA), the industry is currently trading at 5.66X, lower than the S&P 500's 16.39X. However, it is higher than the sector's trailing 12-month EV/EBITDA of 4.59X. Over the past five years, the industry has traded as high as 43.82X and as low as 1.11X, with a median of 10.37X. Natural Gas Services: The United States is sending more natural gas overseas as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). To do this, gas needs to travel through pipelines to coastal export terminals. This creates higher demand for Natural Gas Services' compression equipment to push the gas through the pipelines. So, as more LNG is exported and more pipelines are built, companies like NGS, sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), benefit by renting out more of their compression machines. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here. Solaris Energy: Despite a dip in oil prices, Solaris Energy, carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), hasn't experienced any major decline in business. It anticipates stable activity through the early part of the second quarter, with its logistics systems, key to supporting drilling and fracking, still in strong demand. In the first quarter, system activity rose more than 25%, and its top-fill systems were nearly fully deployed. While some operators may reduce activity later in the year if oil prices remain soft, SEI's oil and gas logistics business has proven resilient, contributing to more stable and predictable income. Oil States International: Oil States International, carrying a Zacks Rank 3, is getting a lot of new business from customers outside the United States, especially from companies working in deep ocean areas to extract oil and gas. In fact, it received more orders than it delivered this past quarter, 1.5 times more, which is a great sign. That means more activities and cash flow are lined up for the future. Since 2000, our top stock-picking strategies have blown away the S&P's +7.7% average gain per year. Amazingly, they soared with average gains of +48.4%, +50.2% and +56.7% per year. Kerry's Munster Intermediate camogie final against Cork deferred until after Special Congress
A short statement from the Munster Camogie Council on Sunday evening said: 'After much deliberation the executive of the Munster Camogie Council have decided to defer the Intermediate final between Kerry and Cork due to take place on May 18 until after Special Congress on May 22. We apologise if this decision is inconveniencing any of our members.' The Special Congress has been convened to address the ongoing controversy regarding wearing of skorts by the players, and their wish to have the skorts replaced by shorts, or at least for the players to have the choice of playing in shorts or skorts. The Munster Senior camogie championship final between Cork and Waterford, scheduled to take place this weekend, was called off at short notice by the Munster Council because the Cork and Waterford players had said they would show up for the final all togged out in shorts and they would not back down. By rule, the match referee would have to request the players to change into skorts, and if they refused to do so then the game would have to be abandoned before the throw-in. While there was no official word from the Kerry and Cork teams ahead of the Intermediate final, The Kerryman understands that the players of both teams were expected to line out in next Sunday's final all wearing shorts. Speaking to The Kerryman last week, Kerry player Niamh Leen said herself and her team mates have 'wanted to get rid of the skorts for years'. While the issue of skorts has been raised occasionally over the last few years, the matter came to a head last week when the Dublin and Kilkenny players came out for their Leinster Senior Camogie semi-final all wearing shorts. With the threat of the game being abandoned and both teams forfeiting their place in the championship, the players returned to the dressing-rooms, changed into skorts and played the game. But the fuse had been lit. Cork and Waterford escalated the protest by stressing they wouldn't be for turning in the Munster Senior final, and it is believed Kerry and Cork were going to follow suit in the Intermediate final. Sunday's Ulster Senior camogie final between Antrim and Derry went ahead as scheduled, but only after some Derry players changed out of the shorts they wore before the start of the game. Some, though not all, Derry players emerged for the final wearing shorts. When the referee enforced the rule on skorts, those Derry players in question changed into skorts and the game was played. The two Munster finals have now been deferred until after Special Congress when delegates will be asked to vote on the introduction of a rule to allow players the option to wear skorts or shorts. If passed, it will go into effect almost immediately.
