40 trainees attend international volleyball coaching course

Muscat, May 7 The Oman Volleyball Association inaugurated the Level 1 International Volleyball Coaching Course on Sunday morning at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The course will continue until May 8 and features the participation of 40 male and female trainees from inside and outside the Sultanate, under the supervision of international instructor Dr Hamoud al Harthy. The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Ali al Maawali, Director of Sports Facilities in Muscat Governorate. This course is accredited by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and aims to qualify coaches by equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge required to train beginners and youth at schools, clubs, and youth development centers. Participants in the course come from various countries, including the UAE, Kuwait, Egypt, India, the Philippines, Poland and Bulgaria, reflecting the regional and global scope of the event and affirming Oman's status as a recognised training hub in the sports sector. Dr Hamoud al Harthy, an FIVB-certified instructor, explained that the Level 1 course focuses on training coaches to work with beginners whether in schools, clubs, or youth development centres. He emphasised that this course is the first step in a series of internationally accredited coaching levels and carries the title 'How Do I Play?', which encapsulates the central theme of the programme. Al Harthy added, 'Through this course, we aim to provide coaches with fundamental information on teaching volleyball's basic skills and effective methods to deliver these to beginners, especially emphasising positive engagement with younger age groups.' He expressed his happiness that Oman is hosting the course, noting that this reflects the FIVB's confidence in the Omani federation's capability to organise accredited training programmes. He said, 'I am honoured that this is the first course I am teaching under the umbrella of the International Federation, and even more so that it is being held in Oman, with strong participation from 40 trainees highlighting the course's international dimension.' On the importance of such courses, Al Harthy stated that they are a fundamental pillar in developing the volleyball foundation in Oman, particularly in line with the federation's focus on youth categories. 'We urgently need qualified coaching staff capable of working with young athletes in schools and sports centres. This course lays the groundwork for that, contributing to the development of a new generation of volleyball players who can represent Oman in the future,' he said. Ali al Maawali expressed his happiness at the launch of the Level 1 coaching course and warmly welcomed all international participants, stating that 'Oman is their second home.' He also thanked the OVA for organising such a high-quality course, which enables local coaches to benefit from international expertise, thereby enhancing the level of national technical staff and supporting the development of the sport in Oman and the wider region.
