We procured more paddy than BRS regime did: Telangana Minister Uttam

HYDERABAD: In a sharp rebuttal to criticism from the BRS, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday released comparative figures of paddy purchase. Sharing the data, the minister pointed out that under the Congress government, the state procured 60.61 lakh tonnes of paddy during the ongoing Rabi 2024-25 season up to May 22. This was a massive jump of over 24 lakh tonnes compared to the 36.63 lakh tonnes procured during the same Rabi period in 2022-23 when BRS was in power, he said. 'Figures don't lie. The Congress government has procured more paddy this Rabi season than the BRS government could during the same period two years ago. Yet, they continue to spread daily lies about procurement delays and farmer distress,' said Uttam. He alleged that the BRS leaders were deliberately misleading farmers and the public to cover up their own failures. 'When they were in power, they left farmers standing in long queues and did not even open enough procurement centres. Now they cry foul as the Congress government ensures that procurement continues without discrimination,' he remarked. Uttam also announced that the state government has instructed all district collectors to procure even rain-affected and moisture-filled paddy to ensure that no farmer is left in distress. 'Our government will not rest till the last grain is procured,' the minister added.

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy reels off stats to counter Harish's allegations

HYDERABAD: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday hit back at former minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao over allegations related to paddy procurement. Sharing official statistics, the minister urged Harish Rao to stop what he called a daily campaign of falsehoods. In a social media post, Uttam shared a comparative chart showing a sharp increase in paddy procurement during the current Rabi season. 'Harish Rao Garu, please see these comparative procurement figures of this year and stop stating falsehoods on every issue every single day!' he posted. Uttam asserted that the Congress government has established more procurement centres and streamlined operations to benefit farmers directly. He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP), the payment of a `500 bonus per quintal for fine-quality paddy. 'Telangana witnessed a record-breaking performance in paddy production. In the Kharif season, 153.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy were produced across 66.7 lakh acres, while the Rabi crop covered 55 lakh acres, yielding another 127 lakh metric tonnes,' Uttam wrote. He pointed out that Telangana has thus produced a total of 280 LMT paddy in one agricultural year — a historic feat not just in the state but also across the nation.

Congress govt. fixed Krishna water injustice, fast-tracked irrigation projects: Uttam Kumar Reddy

HYDERABAD Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday stated that the Congress government had taken several steps to correct the decades of injustice done to the State in the matter of Krishna water allocation. In a review meeting held at Miryalguda, he said that due to persistent efforts, the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II headed by Justice Brijesh Kumar had reopened the issue of sharing 811 tmcft water by the two Telugu States. He alleged that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had allowed Andhra Pradesh to take up Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme without even registering any protest. The Congress government had convinced the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to install telemetry instruments across all water drawal points of the Krishna basin projects to ensure real-time monitoring and transparency in water usage. He accused the previous government of grossly ignoring the irrigation needs of South Telangana by focusing solely on the Kaleshwaram project, which, he said, had ultimately failed due to design flaws and corruption. The amount of ₹94,000 crore spent on Kaleshwaram could well have helped complete major projects such as Devadula, SLBC, Dindi, Palamuru-Rangareddy, Sitarama, Uday Samudram and others, which remained pending for years. Despite spending ₹1.81 lakh crore on the irrigation sector during the BRS rule, no substantial ayacut was created. Projects such as Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Koilsagar and Bhima remained incomplete and Devadula and no irrigation potential was created under Sitarama despite huge spending. In contrast, the Congress government was focusing on delivering maximum irrigation benefits with minimum expenditure. He stated that the Congress government had allocated ₹23,000 crore for irrigation in the 2024–25 budget and had taken steps to strengthen the department by recruiting 1,100 engineers and 1,800 Laskars on the outsourcing method. He stated that de-siltation of old reservoirs such as Nagarjunasagar and Sriramsagar was taken up after decades of neglect and the sedimentation had reduced their water holding capacity by 25% to 30%.

Telangana's caste census sets blueprint for national social justice: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Suryapet/Huzurnagar, May 4 (UNI) Telangana has emerged as a national model in implementing caste census and targeted social justice, said Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy, declaring that the Congress government's landmark initiative offers a governance blueprint for the entire country. Speaking at review meetings and public events in Kodad and Huzurnagar constituencies on Sunday, Uttam highlighted that Telangana's caste census, completed scientifically and transparently, had compelled the BJP-led Centre to respond to Rahul Gandhi's long-standing demand for a nationwide caste census. Uttam emphasised that the census was not a routine exercise, but a revolutionary reform, linking data to policy. It led to the historic 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes, backed by comprehensive socio-economic data and legislative action. 'For the first time, backward communities are getting representation based on real numbers,' he said. Unveiling a statue of freedom fighter Vadde Obanna, the Minister connected the freedom struggle to today's fight for social and economic justice, pledging support to the Vaddera community. During his Huzurnagar visit, he distributed Rs 2.3 crore in welfare cheques, announced interest-free loans for women, new education and housing schemes, and revealed plans to divert 10 TMC floodwater to Paleru reservoir for agriculture. Calling the free premium rice distribution scheme a 'historic step,' he said it now benefits 84 per cent of Telangana's population, making Telangana a national leader in welfare and governance. 'Rahul Gandhi showed the way, Telangana walked the path. Now the rest of India must follow,' Uttam added. UNI VV GNK
