Oman-Italy relations based on mutual respect, vision for peace

The Sultanate of Oman and Italy enjoy a long-standing relationship rooted in mutual respect and a common vision for peace, cultural exchange and sustainable development since pre-historic times, according to Pierluigi D'Elia, Ambassador of Italy to the Sultanate of Oman. Speaking to the media at the Italian National Day in Muscat, named 'A Night of Culture, Friendship and Diplomacy' held under the auspices of Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, at the Grand Hyatt Muscat Hotel, the ambassador emphasised the deep historical ties and shared values between the two nations. 'This event is not only a celebration of the Italian Republic but also of the enduring friendship between our peoples,' said the ambassador. The event brought together distinguished guests from Omani government institutions, diplomatic corps, business and cultural communities, as well as Italian citizens residing in Oman. The reception was a tribute to the strong and growing bonds of friendship and cooperation between Italy and Oman. He further said that Italy's National Day celebration in Muscat marks a symbolic reaffirmation of Italy's commitment to its international partnerships, particularly with Oman, to tackle common challenges and promote peace and stability. "The Embassy of Italy extends its gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the celebration, including its partners - The Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman, Eurotec, Yenaier by Adante Realty, Scalinatella, Oman Air, Monte delle Vigne, Avicen, Renardet, I Veri Sapori Dell'Etna, Terre Di Shemir, CESI, Al Rofoof Hotel Supplies & Trading (Illy Café), Idea Hub, The Italian Trade Agency, and The Grand Hyatt Muscat Hotel, whose valuable support and collaboration contributed to the success of this year's celebration," he said.

Italian Republic Day: Message from Salvatore Parano, Italian Trade Commissioner for Pakistan

It is with great pride that I extend my greetings to the readers of this special supplement, commemorating the Italian National Day set to be celebrated on June 2nd, 2025, in Islamabad and Karachi. As we navigate through the complexities of rising trade policy uncertainty and rapid surge of tariffs, the role of trade promotion becomes increasingly vital. International trade statistics show that over the last hundred years, the growth in commerce has outpaced the economic growth. Today, trade promotion is becoming increasingly important for the gdp growth and complex to manage. The Italian Trade Commission (ITA) office in Islamabad has been fully operational in the last 18 months and, together with a dedicated desk in Karachi, has been meeting the needs and requirements of the business sector of our two economic systems. The Italian Trade Commission (ITA) is the national trade and investment promotion agency whose duty is to develop, facilitate and promote the international competitiveness of italian companies, with particular emphasis on the needs of small and medium sized businesses. In Pakistan, the Italian Trade Commission has always worked under the auspices of the Embassy and the Consulate of Italy to enhance the existing trade relations between our two countries. Pakistan's goods and services trade with Italy witnessed a robust surplus during fiscal year 2024. Trade surplus came in at €558.633 million in FY2024 against €666.110 million a year ago, showing moderate decline of 16,1%. The Overall italian exports to Pakistan stood at € 467.158 million during 2024 against imports of €1,025.991. On a year-on-year basis, exports to Italy decreased 6,2% while imports from Italy increased 9.04%. We look forward to increased interaction between Italy and Pakistan in the years to come and for Italy to become major stakeholder in Pakistan's industrial growth and development, not only in terms of provider of technology for Pakistan manufacturing units but also in terms of quality standards of fast moving consumer goods in which Italy has a worldwide reputation and can represent a win-win best practise for Pakistani partners and new products. Opportunities for the bilateral Trade: Currently, our industrial system is increasingly focusing its attention on the Asian region, with a particular emphasis on Pakistan. Through our privileged position, we are able to identify and often anticipate the significant commercial and economic opportunities that Pakistan can offer during this transformative phase in the global economy. We aim to share these opportunities with Italian companies, fostering collaboration for mutual benefit. The Italian institutions present in Pakistan have identified three large areas of opportunity to enhance collaboration, benefiting both economic systems: • Product diversification and modernization for export led industries, • Agricultural mechanization and resilience, • Energy generation and efficiency, Pakistani businesses and entrepreneurs are encouraged to connect with the Italian Trade Commission to explore the vast opportunities that await for them. Together, we can build an even more prosperous future for our economic resources. BuonFestadellaRepubblica! (Happy Republic Day!) Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Italian Republic Day: Message from Fabrizio Bielli, Consul of Italy in Karachi

It gives me great pleasure to address our distinguished readers and friends of Italy at my first Italian National Day celebration in Pakistan. Italy and Pakistan have a strong economic and commercial tie, which are evident, through various initiatives that even the Consulate undertakes to further strengthen the relations between the two friendly countries. This year, to celebrate the Italian National Day, we have invited Chef Vincenzo de Liso from Italy, who will be hosting us in Karachi on the 5th June with a specially curated Italian menu, that for sure all the guests will enjoy. This is the second visit of the Chef to Karachi, after last year's success, he is keen to explore more opportunities in Pakistan with Italy in the 'HORECA' sector. Hence, I decided to go ahead and focalize commercial opportunities in this sector together with the Chef, to bring more of Italian culinary heritage, gastronomical excellence of Made in Italy to the people of Karachi. On the commercial front, Italy sees the latter as an important trading partner. Hence, during April 2025, we saw for the first time the Italian pavilion with direct participation of Italian companies at IGATEX 2025 in the textile sector with a presence of over 45 companies. During my tenure in Karachi, I would like to focalize with relevant stakeholders in the economic and commercial sphere, to develop and enhance the numbers of the existing trade statistics with Pakistan. At the end of June, we will have a visit of the Italian naval ship to Karachi, "Antonio Marceglia", within six months from the last visit of the iconic Amerigo Vespucci, which shows Italy's commitment towards strong naval ties with Pakistan besides other ongoing commercial engagements. To sum up, Italy and Pakistan enjoy excellent bilateral relations and look forward to enhance the existing ones hopefully, in many fields in the years to come. The Consulate of Italy in Karachi is eager to develop cooperation and to facilitate and welcome all Pakistani and Italian engagements to promote friendship, economic engagement and joint prosperity for our Countries!
