'Trusted courier' jailed over Londonderry cannabis haul
A man described in court as a "trusted courier" has been jailed for two years after being found with more than four kilos of cannabis in his Chan, 38, from Creswick Avenue, Essex, pleaded guilty at Londonderry Crown Court on discovered eight vacuum bags of cannabis in his car when it was stopped on the Culmore Road in Derry on 4 August Judge Neil Rafferty said: "It is quite clear he was acting in the role of a trusted courier making deliveries to known people throughout the island of Ireland." Hong Kong customs seizes HK$28 million of undeclared cargo on Macau-bound ship
Hong Kong Customs has intercepted a cargo vessel bound for Macau, uncovering HK$28 million (US$3.575 million) worth of undeclared items, including dried shark fins and alternative smoking products. Patrolling officers intercepted the river trade vessel southwest of Hong Kong, near the waters off Fan Lau on Lantau on May 9, and found the poorly documented cargo, inspector Ivan Chan King-fung of the customs marine enforcement division said on Thursday. Following the interception, customs officials escorted the vessel to the department's marine base in Tuen Mun for a thorough search. Authorities discovered a significant quantity of unregistered goods within the cargo hold, including suspected scheduled dried shark fins and seafood, cosmetic injection vials, electronic products such as gimbal stabilizers and various alternative smoking products, such as e-cigarettes. Investigators also found that the tobacco products were packed inside boxes labelled with well-known nappy brands, a tactic likely used to evade detection. While nine local crew members were on board at the time, no arrests have yet been made.

Hong Kong resident Judd Trump to headline local snooker tournament in June
Snooker world No 1 Judd Trump will headline an exhibition tournament in Hong Kong next month. Advertisement The local resident will be joined by fellow British player Jack Lisowski, Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-nooh, Chinese pair Zhang Anda, the world No 12, and rising star Chen Qien. Also playing will be Hong Kong's two-time Asian Games gold medallist Ivan Chan Kwok-ming, who claimed the men's team title alongside Marco Fu and Chan Wai-tat in Bangkok in 1998, and Fu and Fung Kwok-wai in Busan four years later. The Greater Bay Area Snooker Culture Challenge – Ming Snooker Cup, which runs at Queen Elizabeth Stadium from June 10 to 11, will mark the first snooker tournament in the city since the World Grand Prix at Kai Tak Arena in March. It will also be the first exhibition tournament in Hong Kong since the ill-fated Hong Kong Snooker All-Star Challenge in March 2024, which was blighted by spectators complaining about obstructed views despite paying for expensive tickets.
