‘The fight from Jaddu was absolutely brilliant': Gautam Gambhir, others laud Ravindra Jadeja for gritty knock at Lord's

The Indian team led by head coach Gautam Gambhir showered praises on Ravindra Jadeja for his gritty knock of 61 not out which brought the visitors very close to the 193-run target that England had set at Lord's but ultimately fell 22 runs short. 'That was an incredible fight. The fight from Jaddu was absolutely brilliant,' said Gambhir in a video titled 'The MVP ft. Ravindra Jadeja', which was posted on the BCCI website on Friday. Jadeja came in at No.7 as the India batting lineup crumbled to chase the modest total. He almost took the visitors over the finish line with assistance from tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj the latter was unfortunately snapped up by Shoaib Bashir, leaving India to go 1-2 down in the series. Bumrah faced 54 balls for his 5 and Siraj played out 30 deliveries for his 4 as India folded for 170. 'It's very difficult to get a player like me and we are lucky to have such a player in our team,' Siraj said in the video. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗩𝗣; 𝗳𝘁. In the last two Tests the consistency and the calmness he brought to the dressing room. I've watched him for so many years and how he's developed his game now, his defence is rock solid, looks like a proper batter,' assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said. 'I always felt he has the ability to take pressure. With so much of experience, he normally comes with something that the team needs in any challenging conditions. Really, really valuable to the team,' India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said. On Monday, skipper Shubman Gill also was gushing in his praise for the allrounder. 'He is one of the most valuable players of India. The skillset he brings with his batting, bowling and fielding. He is someone who is very rare to find. The way Jaddu bhai batted was a very proud effort. The character and the courage they showed was tremendous,' he had said. India will have to win the fourth Test beginning in Manchester on July 23 to keep their hopes of winning the series alive.

'That was an incredible fight. The fight from Jaddu, that was absolutely brilliant," head coach Gautam Gambhir declared. 'He is one of the most valuable players. The skillset he brings is very hard to find," Indian skipper Shubman Gill said. 'The kind of innings he played, was a really proud effort," he added. 'I've seen him improve over the years and the levels he has reached is spectacular. Looks like a proper batter," he added. Jadeja, who played a lone-ranger innings in India's latest defeat to England at the Lord's in the third Test of the five-match series between the side in the United Kingdom, remained unbeaten as his 61-run knock went in vain as India succumbed to a 22-run defeat with the English bowling attack budling out the Indian batting order for just 170 runs while chasing a target of193 runs in the second innings of the five-day affair. Kuldeep Yadav Banks On Spin To Win In England, Says 'Wickets Look Promising'

Last Updated: Kuldeep Yadav is optimistic about the Test series in England, saying that the wickets spinners will have their say as the game progresses. With one half of India's seasoned spin duo no longer part of the Test team, Kuldeep Yadav has been spending more time with Ravindra Jadeja during the England tour. The initial pitch assessments have bolstered his confidence ahead of the series starting on 1 June. The retirement of R Ashwin has increased Jadeja's responsibility, who has played 12 Tests in England. Kuldeep, the only specialist spinner in the squad, has bowled just nine overs in his lone Test appearance in England. Experts believe Kuldeep will play a pivotal role as India aim for their first series win in England since 2007. While he may not feature in the series opener at Lord's, spinners are expected to be more effective at venues like Birmingham, The Oval, and potentially even Old Trafford. 'The wickets look promising for spinners. The pitch was good for batting during the intra-squad game. There was some moisture on the first day, aiding seamers, but spinners became more involved as the game progressed," Kuldeep mentioned during the intra-squad game. The wrist-spinner is hopeful of getting assistance from the surfaces over the five matches. 'There's bounce for spinners on this surface. Today is day three, and I am yet to bowl. The ball is turning a bit, and I hope it stays that way during the series," said Kuldeep. While the Kanpur cricketer misses Ashwin in the dressing room, his retirement has allowed Kuldeep to spend more time with Jadeja. 'Playing alongside Jaddu bhai is an honour. Both Jaddu and Ash have been brilliant for India. When I made my debut, they helped me a lot. 'Now, I regularly discuss with Jaddu bhai how to bowl to specific batters. We spend a lot of time together both on and off the field, which helps me tactically. We've discussed field placements, and he has given me valuable insights." India are currently playing India A in a four-day game. When asked about the main objectives from the sole practice game before the Test series, Kuldeep said, 'Volume is crucial for a bowler. We've been playing a lot of T20 cricket in the last four or five months. 'Fast bowlers are told to bowl at least 15-20 overs for Test match preparation. It's the same for spinners; the more they bowl, the better. 'I'm excited about playing in overseas conditions. Mindset becomes important here. I've always had an attacking mindset. If there's some help for spinners and the sun is shining, we can make an impact. I don't worry too much about the conditions," he added. Kuldeep is also impressed with new captain Shubman Gill's approach. 'Shubman knows how to lead. He has worked with many captains, especially Rohit bhai, and has learned from them. From what I've seen so far, he is very motivated and focused on boosting the team's morale. He is ready for the job," he concluded. First Published: June 15, 2025, 20:07 IST

Daniel Vettori says working around batting line-up served SRH well against CSK

Chennai, Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Daniel Vettori said that working around their batting line-up and getting the match-ups right with Kamindu Mendis in the mix served the team well against Chennai Super Kings in their Indian Premier League match. SRH ended their winless streak against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk when they defeated the hosts by five wickets here on Friday, scoring 155 for five in 18.4 overs after CSK were bowled out for 154. Vettori admitted SRH have not done well on slow and tricky surfaces so far in this IPL which saw them lose to Mumbai Indians in an away game and two matches at home in Uppal. "No, we haven't ," Vettori told the media after the match. "We've encountered them away and we've encountered them at home, so it hasn't quite matched up with our expectations around the surfaces. But the onus is on us to adapt and understand what's required," he said. Vettori said moving around their players was crucial for SRH against CSK as Mendis played a vital role both with the bat and the ball. "That's why the likes of Kamindu came into the team. That's why there was the shuffle in the batting order, putting Klaasen up, Nitish down, to give us a more balanced approach to a chase in particular," he said. "The initial plan was around left-right-hand combinations, and that's in a way to counter Noor and Jaddu and how good they are through those middle stages." "A lot of the logic was picking him for this ground. We knew what sort of surface we'd come up against and to have a batsman who can play all types of spin, be aggressive, and hit a multitude of shots, that was the starting point," he added. Meanwhile, the former New Zealand spinner heaped rich praise on India and Gujarat Titans spinner R Sai Kishore, revealing that he was one player SRH wanted to have in their squad during the mega auction. "I think Jadeja has got a big future. I think he can really kick on," Vettori quipped when asked which left-arm spinner has impressed him in this IPL. "I'm trying to think… Santner has obviously been fantastic for Mumbai, Jaddu here, Harpreet Brar has got a few opportunities with Punjab . "Sai Kishore has been the pick. He's been fantastic. He was a guy that we looked at very closely in the auction and wanted him in the team. He has all the attributes of a very good limited overs bowler." "He's very brave. He has the ability to turn the ball, change his pace over and around the wicket. I think it sets up a template for other spinners to see how you can actually compete and succeed. He's done it on good batting wickets as well," he added. Vettori continued, "I know he came to Hyderabad and bowled exceptionally well. So yeah, I think he's been incredibly impressive."
