After Coolie, are Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna Akkineni reuniting for Jailer 2, with latter playing villain?
Superstar Rajinikanth is currently involved in the shoot of his sequel movie Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. With exciting details about the film emerging, it appears that Nagarjuna Akkineni may play the main antagonist, reuniting with the actor after Coolie. As per a report by Deccan Herald, Nagarjuna Akkineni is being eyed to play the big bad in Rajinikanth starrer. Apparently, sources close to the project claim that various names were under consideration for the villain role in the film, but after the veteran actor's performance as Simon in Coolie, the makers settled on Nagarjuna's name. However, as of now, these are based solely on reports, and an official confirmation from the production side has yet to be made. Talking about the film Jailer 2, the upcoming Tamil-language movie is a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. With Rajinikanth returning as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian, the team has been undergoing shoots. According to several reports, the makers have approached Nandamuri Balakrishna for a key cameo role with Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar expected to make a return, reprising their previous appearances. Additionally, the film is also said to have actors like Fahadh Faasil, SJ Suryah, and more. Coming to Nagarjuna Akkineni's work front, the actor is next set to appear in the film Kuberaa, starring alongside Dhanush. The Sekhar Kammula-directed film is a social thriller slated to release on June 20, 2025. The upcoming venture also features Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and other notable actors in key roles. On the other hand, Rajinikanth will be hitting the big screens with the Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, releasing on August 14, 2025. Rajinikanth Shares Major Update On Jailer 2 Shoot: ‘Will Mostly Be Done By December'

This meeting sparked speculation about Mohanlal reprising his role as Mathew Rajinikanth has been working on one of the most highly anticipated films, Jailer 2. The shooting has been going on in full swing. Finally, the actor has given fans an update on the much-anticipated Jailer 2, confirming that the film's shoot may wrap up by the end of this year. Rajinikanth reprise his role as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian. Times Now mentioned that when asked by the press about Jailer 2's shoot and post-production, Rajinikanth said, 'I am not sure when exactly we will complete shooting for Jailer 2. But the shoot will mostly be done by December." He also added that the post-production work for Coolie is going on well. Recently, reports of director Nelson Dilipkumar's meeting with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal surfaced. This meeting sparked speculation about Mohanlal reprising his role as Mathew in the Rajinikanth-led action drama. Nothing has been made official till now. India Today has reported that director Nelson Dilipkumar met Mohanlal on the sets of his upcoming film, 'Hridayapoorvam', in Kerala. The two had a discussion about the actor's role in Rajinikanth's upcoming film, 'Jailer 2', which is currently in production. Nandamuri Balakrishna is also officially a part of Jailer 2, and it's not just a blink-and-miss cameo either. The seasoned star is expected to play a pivotal role alongside Superstar Rajinikanth. A source close to the film's unit told Hindustan Times that Balakrishna has nodded to collaborating with Rajinikanth in Jailer 2. 'It is true that NBK has said yes to a powerful role in Jailer 2. He loved what Nelson pitched to him and looks forward to shooting for the film soon. He plays more of a guest role in the film than a cameo because he wanted something solid, and Nelson delivered. Fans are going to love it," said the source. Earlier this month, while promoting his latest Kannada film 45 in Hyderabad, Shiva was asked about Balakrishna's involvement in Jailer 2. He confirmed that Balakrishna has indeed been roped in for a key role in the highly anticipated sequel. Jailer 2 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action comedy film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures. A sequel to Jailer (2023), the film stars Rajinikanth reprising his role as the titular character alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon reprising their roles, with S. J.
