Radio host Matt Pinfield had a 'massive stroke,' daughter confirms in conservatorship bid
Radio host and former MTV personality Matt Pinfield suffered a stroke earlier this month, and it has taken a toll on more than his professional obligations, according to his daughter. Jessica Pinfield, the former music executive's 38-year-old daughter, said in legal documents filed this week in Los Angeles County Superior Court that her father, 63, is now "incompetent" to make decisions about his health and finances. She filed a petition Monday to become conservator of her father and his estate. According to legal documents, the elder Pinfield "suffered a massive stroke on January 6, 2025." A representative for Pinfield, also known for his stint as a video jockey on MTV, confirmed to The Times that he remains hospitalized and is under a temporary conservatorship. The rep did not share additional information about his condition. TMZ reported that Jessica Pinfield and her sister, Maya Pinfield, 24, sought the order to protect their father's money from being accessed by people outside the family. A legal representative for Jessica Pinfield did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment. The post did not mention Pinfield's health. "We fully support Matt and hope to have his energetic rock n' roll knowledge back on air soon," the station said. Pinfield's daughter, Jessica Pinfield, filed a petition Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court to place her father under a temporary conservatorship amid his health issues. Per Jessica Pinfield's filing, the radio host is "incompetent to make health and/or make financial decisions/ pay bills" following his stroke. Pinfield has reportedly remained hospitalized since the health ordeal took place, a representative for the radio personality confirmed to Variety and Billboard. USA TODAY has reached out to Pinfield's rep for comment. The day of his stroke, Pinfield shared a photo on Instagram that appeared to show him at work, with the host sitting in front of a camera. Jessica Pinfield requested the legal right to manage her father's medical and fiscal affairs out of fear that his girlfriend plans to spend his money. Pinfield was a fixture on MTV during the height of the network's popularity, regularly appearing on 'Total Request Live' and 'MTV Live,' in addition to hosting the alternative music showcase, '120 Minutes,' and over 100 of the channel's specials. He was struck by a car in 2018, and was hospitalized for injuries to his head and leg. In 2020, a GoFundMe page was launched in support of his recovery and raised more than $40,000 in its first eight days, and has spoken openly about how the pandemic reopened his substance abuse issues. On the day of his stroke, Pinfield shared a sentiment that he was happy to be alive.
