Moses field goal sinks Cowboys in NRL thriller

A Mitchell Moses field goal has propelled Parramatta to a thrilling 19-18 victory over North Queensland at CommBank Stadium in Sydney. Both sides went into Sunday's clash out of finals contention but played as if they were fighting for a playoff spot, trading tries and taking the game right to the death. Somewhat fittingly in the final game of the NRL's Indigenous Round, a pair of tries to Josh Addo-Carr boosted the Eels. But it was Moses' kicking game and one-pointer that ultimately made the difference. Moses slots the field goal! 👏Telstra Moment of the Match — NRL (@NRL) August 10, 2025 The Cowboys looked to have snatched an unlikely victory in the last 30 seconds when Jake Clifford crossed but the try was disallowed by the bunker for interference on Moses as he moved to tackle. The win was another step forward in the rebuild under Jason Ryles and moved the Eels four points clear of Gold Coast at the bottom of the ladder with four matches to play, while the loss for the Cowboys increases the pressure on coach Todd Payten. Zac Lomax opened the scoring for the Eels with a penalty goal in the sixth minute, but it was the Cowboys' Jaxon Purdue who grabbed the first try of the game 15 minutes in, pouncing on a kick from Clifford after Zac Lomax slipped in pursuit. Addo-Carr then grabbed his double within six minutes, the latter from a deft Moses grubber, to put Parramatta up 12-8 after an entertaining first half. It took just three minutes of the second half for the Eels to extend their lead when Will Penisini touched down, but the Cowboys returned serve when Braidon Burns scored after an intercept from Semi Valemei. Two minutes later impressive Eels fullback Joash Papali'i spilled a bomb and Purdue capitalised to lock things up at 18-all, before Moses' heroics decided the outcome. For the Cowboys, Jason Taumalolo and Coen Hess were immense in the middle, turning back the clock with their punishing running. Hess might be in trouble with the match review committee, however, put on report early in the game for a dangerous tackle, diving at the legs of an already wrapped up Papali'i. There was another controversy involving a trainer late in the game when the North Queensland orange shirt runner got in the way of play after an Eels kick down field was fumbled by the Cowboys. The ball ricocheted onto the trainer and referee Liam Kennedy stopped play but there was no direct impact on a scoring opportunity. The trainer was later seen on the sideline in conversation with the NRL's ground manager.

Raiders star Matt Timoko cops it for ‘embarrassing' brain fade

Raiders winger Matt Timoko will be kept up all night tonight after bombing a certain try against the Eels. Saturday afternoon's win over Parramatta wasn't pretty, but a powerful second-half surge helped see the Raiders maintain their spot at the top of the NRL ladder and edge closer to a first minor premiership since 1990. Playing in front of a sold-out GIO Stadium on a stunning winter's Saturday afternoon, the Raiders weren't at their best, but were still way too good for a plucky Eels side, scoring 28 second-half points and running out 40-16 winners. The victory was Canberra's eighth straight and fittingly was played in the presence of a host of Raiders legends returning to honour the club's history in their annual Forever Green celebration. However, there was one moment in particular that wasn't so pretty. At 28-16 with 5 minutes left in the second half, Kaeo Weeks cut the Eels' left edge to shreds before drawing in fullback Isaiah Iongi and passing to Timoko, who went to the line untouched. But instead of putting the ball straight down, Timoko pulled up, sending Iongi flying past him. With a smirk, Timoko then went to put the ball down. But little did he know Josh Addo-Carr had chased back, tackling him and dislodging the ball. You can watch the moment in the player at the top of the page. 'It's an embarrassing moment for Matt that takes away from the brilliance of Kaeo,' Andrew Voss said in Fox Sports commentary. 'Just put the ball down son.' As Timoko looked embarrassed, he was given a death stare from coach Ricky Stuart as his unnecessary act gave the Eels a sniff at a late comeback. And NRL fans tore into the winger online. 'That's what you get for being cocky hahahahah, just put the ball down, stop playing silly buggers,' one fan wrote on X. 'Timoko wins goose of the day,' another added. 'Go into hiding now Matty, there's no coming back from that,' a third said. In the end, it mattered not as the Raiders registered a strong 24-point win with two late tries. The Raiders will take on the lowly Knights next week as they look to increase their lead in the race for the NRL minor premiership.

Watch as NRL star Josh Addo-Carr is pranked by his OWN CLUB with brutal fake player rating following launch of video game RugbyLeague26

NRL star Josh Addo-Carr has been stitched up deluxe by the Parramatta Eels, who caught the flyer off-guard with a classic prank following the highly anticipated launch of video game RugbyLeague26 this week. Former representative winger Addo-Carr, 29, was given a fake player rating of 71 by the club's media team - and the 'Foxx' wasn't happy. 'Whoever made this game has no idea about rugby league,' was his immediate reply on camera. Teammate Will Penisini urged the game's creators to 'check the resume' of Addo-Carr, which includes two NRL premierships with the Melbourne Storm as well as the World Cup in 2021, where he was a standout for Australia. Eventually Addo-Carr was informed the numbers were fabricated - and he was all smiles about the 'crazy' wind-up. Other fake ratings of Eels stars included a very generous 86 for centre Jordan Samrani, a harsh 66 for veteran utility Dylan Walker, 87 for replacement halfback Dean Hawkins and 89 for hard-nosed forward Luca Moretti. Understandably, Italian international Moretti was delighted, and cheekily declared: 'the numbers don't lie.' Meanwhile, scores of footy fans have taken to social media to complain about numerous glitches, bugs and frozen loading screens from the video game. 'Not even joking how did this game get the green light?,' one bemused supporter posted on X. Another said: 'This dross is the best you can come up with? Embarrassing.' A third wrote: 'Cannot put into words how bad Rugby League 26 is'. The avalanche of criticism saw Big Ant Studios - who created the game - release a statement on Thursday night, apologising to those who purchased the game. 'We know today has not gone as smoothly as it should have and we will compensate all #RugbyLeague26 purchasers with some free #ProTeam credit,' the Studio posted online. 'Details to follow. There has been overwhelming demand that also may have caused service issues, and for that we cannot apologise enough.' Panthers superstar halfback Nathan Cleary is the highest rated player in the game with a rating of 93.

Footy world divided by controversial Josh Addo-Carr call in Dragons' win

Parramatta was denied a try after a hugely controversial call in the second half of their 34-20 loss to St George-Illawarra on Saturday night. The Dragons led 26-4 at halftime after a dominant opening 40 minutes and appeared ready to coast to victory at WIN Stadium. Then came the moment that will have plenty of people talking. The Eels moved the ball to the left side of the field with just over 17 minutes remaining, when Sean Russell found Josh Addo-Carr on the left wing. The man known as the Foxx broke a Corey Allan tackle and passed back inside to Russell, who had clear air in front of him to stroll to the line and give Parra the chance to tie the game at 26-26. But the touch judge had other ideas, lifting his flag and ruling Addo-Carr had touched the sideline to stun the Eels fans watching on. When the replay was shown, it was one of the tightest calls you could see on the footy field and far from convincing. 'Addo-Carr is away, it might be 26-26 in a moment,' Andrew Voss yelled on Fox League. 'No the flag is up, a foot over the sideline. Our man is standing by his decision. 'Addo-Carr, left leg down and then the right, where is it? Could be this one. I don't know. 'If it's not, it's as close as you can go. Oh boy.' Steve Roach added: 'I don't know about that. How could naked eye make a call? 'He had a player down in front of him, how could he see it?' Voss then clarified the ruling, stating: 'That is incredible that moment, but once the sideline official's flag goes up, the protocol is you don't go to the Bunker. It was going to be 26-all. 'Send some Panadol to the Dragons' box.' Fans were deeply divided by the incident on social media. Lui Zacher tweeted: 'Touchie has X ray vision to see through a Dragons player, and CSI: Enhance technology to call Addo-Carr's boot on the line 15 metres away, but someone chucks a forward pass right in front and it's 'I didn't see nuffin'.' @aotesam wrote: 'I think his foot *just* went into touch … but there is absolutely no way you can call it with confidence.' Jack Holdsworth said: 'The first time a useless touch judge has ever made a live call and he reckons he's seen 1mm of Addo-Carrs foot on the sideline. Give me a f**king spell.' Mr_Ives wrote: 'That Dragons Eels touchie could see Uranus without a telescope.' Gemma Rogers suggested: 'I thought the touchie got that right. Looked like his foot was just on the line.' LJ declared: 'Parra have been screwed big time there, that was never in touch!' The Dragons eventually scored another try through Valentine Holmes with five minutes remaining to establish a match-winning lead. Voss was left hoping Addo-Carr's moment wouldn't be the biggest talking point of a great game of footy. 'There's been so much happening in this game,' he said. 'I know people are going to go back to the Addo-Carr foot on the line. 'If he's in, it's the closest to being out anyway there's ever been and that would be 26-all at that point. 'But I'd rather savour the game at the moment, rather than the controversy.'

Casualty ward: Tom Hazelton set to be out for three months, Josh Addo-Carr locked in for another year at the Eels

The Sharks have been dealt a major blow with towering prop forward Tom Hazelton set to be sidelined for the next three months following surgery on his sternoclavicular joint injury that he suffered against Manly earlier this month. Hazelton had surgery on Tuesday following several consultations with shoulder specialists, with the consistent prop suffering the collarbone injury when he landed awkwardly in a tackle back in round 10. The club expects him to be out for up to 12 weeks, although that will be offset by the return of experienced stars like Sione Katoa, Toby Rudolf and Teig Wilton in the coming rounds. The flashy winger joined Parramatta this year after he was let go by the Bulldogs and has scored a team-high seven tries on the left wing despite missing the start of the season through suspension. 'Josh has been a popular addition to our club. From day one, he has embraced the Parramatta community and brought a real spark to our group,' Eels general manager of football Mark O'Neill said. 'The coaching staff have been impressed with his leadership on the field, particularly with our younger players. 'His passion and personality have had a positive effect across the organisation, and we're happy to have him with us for another season.'
