Zamalek coach Peseiro concerned about ‘well-organized' Stellenbosch - Egyptian Football
Zamalek's Portuguese coach, José Peseiro, has expressed concerns ahead of his team's clash with South Africa's Stellenbosch in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday. The 64-year-old Peseiro, who joined Zamalek in February, vowed to fight for a victory in his debut match in the continental tournament. 'We will fight to achieve a positive result against Stellenbosch, and we are determined to win this difficult game,' Peseiro told reporters at the pre-game press conference. 'My goal is to secure the Confederation Cup this season and help Zamalek win their second continental title,' he added. 'We are focused on winning and putting on a good performance to progress to the next round,' the Zamalek coach stated. Peseiro also highlighted the strength of Stellenbosch, saying, 'Stellenbosch is a newly established team, but they are well-organized on the field and have more talented players in their squad.' The second leg will be held in Cairo on 9 April. The winner of the Zamalek-Stellenbosch tie will face the victor of the Masry-Simba clash in the semifinals. Preview: Zamalek's Peseiro seeks 1st win against Enppi in Egyptian League - Egyptian Football
Zamalek will look to secure their first victory under Portuguese coach José Peseiro when they face Enppi on Tuesday in the 17th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League. Since Peseiro's appointment on 14 February, Zamalek have failed to win, drawing 1-1 against Petrojet, Ahly, and ZED FC. José Peseiro appointed coach of Zamalek
Zamalek announced the appointment of Portuguese coach José Peseiro as the new head of their technical team, replacing Christian Gross. Peseiro has signed an 18-month contract with Egyptian club and replaces Swiss tactician Gross, who was hired in December 2024 to succeed José Gomez. The Portuguese coach returns to the Egyptian league after a stint as coach of Zamalek's rivals Al Ahly during the 2015/16 season. José Peseiro has solid experience at the head of both clubs and national teams. He has coached several European clubs and African national teams, including Nigeria, who he led to the final of the last TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire. The announcement of his appointment was made by the club in a press release. "The board of directors has examined the report of the planning committee, on its evaluation of the football of the first team and the position of the technical and administrative staff. The Board has therefore decided to thank the Swiss coach, Christian Gross and his assistants," the statement said. "The Board reiterates its sincere appreciation for the great efforts made by Gross and his assistants, wishing them well for the rest of their careers. The Board of Directors also decided, following the recommendation of the Sports Planning Committee which reviewed a number of coaches' resumes, to appoint the Portuguese, José Peseiro, former coach of Porto and Sporting Lisbon, as head of the technical staff of Zamalek, for a period of one and a half seasons.' Zamalek have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup after finishing top of Group B with 16 points, five wins and one draw. The Egyptian club is the title holder in this competition after beating the Moroccans of Renaissance Berkane in the final last season. Locally, Zamalek is in third place in the Egyptian league with 26 points taken in 13 rounds. It is ahead of Al Ahly (2nd) and Pyramids FC, leader of the championship. Zamalek fans hope that the arrival of Peseiro at the head of their team will allow them to do better and go for new trophies at the end of this season.
