Preview: Zamalek's Peseiro seeks 1st win against Enppi in Egyptian League - Egyptian Football

Al-Ahram Weekly03-03-2025

Zamalek will look to secure their first victory under Portuguese coach José Peseiro when they face Enppi on Tuesday in the 17th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League.
Since Peseiro's appointment on 14 February, Zamalek have failed to win, drawing 1-1 against Petrojet, Ahly, and ZED FC.
'We didn't achieve victory in the last three games, but we played good football, and the performance has improved,' Peseiro told the pre-game press conference.
The team is currently third in the standings with 29 points, 10 behind joint leaders Pyramids FC, and seven adrift of second-placed Ahly.
Enppi, on the other hand, are struggling near the bottom of the table with just 12 points.
'We aim to win against Enppi as Zamalek fights to win all the games,' the Zamalek coach said.
This season, the Egyptian Premier League adopted a single-round format with all 18 clubs competing.
The top nine teams will advance to the title race, while the bottom clubs will fight to avoid relegation.
Zamalek will be without key players, including Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed and Mohamed Shehata, who are suspended. Tunisian defender Hamza Mathlouthi, Ahmed Hamdi, and Mohamed Abdel-Shafi remain sidelined due to injuries.
'We have more absentees ahead of the Enppi game, and as any coach would want, I hope for the availability of the entire squad to achieve victory. However, I am confident in the performance of the available players,' the Portuguese coach added.
Peseiro will rely on veteran midfielder Abdalla El-Saied and midfielder Nasser Maher, who returns from a three-game suspension, to help secure his first win with the Whites.

'I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford', says new Spurs boss Frank - World

Thomas Frank said on Friday he had "left a big piece of my heart" at Brentford after taking on the daunting task of reviving Tottenham's Premier League fortunes. Spurs announced the Dane as their new head coach on a three-year deal on Thursday, as a replacement for the sacked Ange Postecoglou. Frank, 51, won 136 of his 317 matches across a seven-year spell at Brentford, taking them into the Premier League in 2021. In an emotional message posted on Brentford's website Frank said: "The time has come for me to move on. But, even as I leave, I know I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford, not just at the football club but with the community and, of course, the incredible and loyal supporters. "I want to extend my profound gratitude to the club for giving me the chance to pursue my dreams and for everyone involved who made the journey such a memorable one." He said it had been a privilege to be allowed to be part of such a "special community". "Whatever we have achieved, we have achieved together, and our success is built on unity, spirit, courage and ambition at every level of the club and amongst the fans," he said. "Everybody has contributed, and every contribution has been invaluable. I am not just leaving a football club, I am saying goodbye to friends whose support through good and bad times I will carry with me always." Frank, who becomes Tottenham's fourth permanent boss since 2021, is tasked with lifting the club back among the Premier League's elite. Spurs will play in the Champions League next season thanks to their Europa League success in Bilbao, where they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final. Their first European trophy for 41 years delivered on Postecoglou's boast that he always wins silverware in his second season. However, the Australian paid the price for a miserable Premier League season in which Tottenham finished 17th after losing 22 of their 38 games. Tottenham finished seven places and 18 points below Frank's Brentford. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.) De Bruyne signs for Napoli after leaving Man City - Egyptian Football

Kevin De Bruyne has signed for Napoli as a free agent after being released by Manchester City, the Serie A champions' president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed on Thursday Film mogul De Laurentiis posted a picture of himself shaking hands with De Bruyne on social media with the message "welcome Kevin!" Belgium midfielder De Bruyne has reportedly signed a two-year deal with an option for a third at Napoli, where he will join up with international teammate Romelu Lukaku and former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. The 33-year-old left City at the end of this past season after a trophy-packed decade in Manchester, where under Pepe Guardiola he won six Premier League titles and in 2023 the Champions League. He has however suffered from a series of physical problems in recent seasons, with two hamstring injuries causing him to miss significant chunks of the last two campaigns. Napoli have brought in one of Europe's top midfielders as the Italians try to bolster a squad which next season will defend the Scudetto while also having the extra fixture pressure of the expanded Champions League. Antonio Conte's Napoli beat Inter Milan to the Serie A title on the final day of the season, their second league crown in three years. But they had no European football clogging up their calendar, unlike Inter who got to the Champions League final only to be thumped 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain. Ahly's Abou Ali joins squad in US as Gradisar resumes training ahead of Club World Cup

Abou Ali, 26, missed Ahly's initial departure for the US due to international duty with Palestine in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Palestine's campaign ended with a 1-1 draw against Oman after conceding a late penalty in their final group match. Ahly, the reigning African champions, are in Group A alongside Inter Miami, Brazil's Palmeiras, and Portuguese champions Porto in the newly expanded 32-team Club World Cup. The Cairo-based club will open their campaign on Sunday against Inter Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. As part of their preparations, Ahly lost 5-3 on penalties to Pachuca after a 1-1 draw in a friendly earlier this week. All players are fit and available for selection, according to a team statement on Thursday. Ahly arrived in the US last week to begin their training camp ahead of the tournament's kickoff.
