Cadre killings, surrenders have weakened Maoists: Police
Berhampur: Law enforcement agencies expect a major weakening of the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the CPI (Maoist) following the recent killing of two Maoists in an encounter and the surrender of three others in Kandhamal's Phulbani on Monday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kandhamal SP Harish B C said the KKBN division has lost at least 15 senior leaders in the last month alone, dealing a significant blow to the outfit's operations in Kandhamal and adjoining Boudh and Nayagarh districts. "Their absence will weaken the Maoist base in these areas," the SP said, adding that anti-Maoist operations in the district have been intensified. Appealing to Maoists to abandon violence and join the mainstream, the SP said those who surrender will be rehabilitated under the government's surrender and rehabilitation policy. On June 30, two senior Maoist leaders, including an area committee member, were killed by security forces during an encounter at Pushungia forest under Baliguda police station limits in Kandhamal. Police said the bodies were disposed of on Tuesday after no one came forward to claim them.

3 Maoists surrender in Phulbani
1 2 Berhampur: Three hardcore Maoists, including two women, all from Chhattisgarh, carrying a total bounty of Rs 13 lakh, surrendered to police at Phulbani in Kandhamal district Monday. The surrendered Maoists were identified as Made Beti alias Champa (30) of Dugumarka in Sukma district, working as divisional committee member (DCM), Raju Dodi alias Ajay (35) of Basaguda, and Admo Madvi alias Manju (27) of Pangud in Bijapur district, working as area committee members in Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of CPI (Maoist). They surrendered at the district police office in Phulbani in the presence of inspector general of police (southern range) Niti Sekhar, SP (Kandhamal) Harish BC, and commandant 127 battalion of CRPF Pankaj Verma. "The task of the surrendered Maoists was to reactivate the North-South corridor from Jharkhand to Chhattisgarh through south-central Odisha. They were working in the Maoist organisation since 2009, 2016, and 2011 respectively," said the SP (Kandhamal). The trio were involved in several Maoist-related violences in Kandhamal. The surrender of senior Maoist leaders took place after the death of two Maoist leaders, Manku and Chandan, the ACM and party member in the Maoist organisation, in the June 30 encounter at Pushungia forest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Abiti in una casa indipendente? They will be suitably rehabilitated under the surrender rehabilitation scheme of the govt, he said. Sekhar appealed to other ultras to shun violence and join the mainstream.

Odisha police guns down two Maoists in Kandhamal forest
BERHAMPUR/PHULBANI: Odisha Police gunned down two Maoists in Kandhamal district and seized arms and ammunition from their camp on Monday. The deceased were identified as Manku and Chandan, both natives of neighbouring Chhattisgarh and members of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the banned CPI-Maoist outfit. Apart from recovering the bodies of the two ultras, security forces seized a rifle, revolvers, cartridges, walkie-talkie sets, batteries and other items from the encounter site, informed Kandhamal SP Harisha BC. The SP said acting on a tip-off about presence of Maoists in Puranjiba reserve forest within Baliguda police limits along Kandhamal-Kalahandi border, a combing operation was launched by the district voluntary force (DVF) and SOG jawans since the last two days. 'Around noon today, there was a gunfight between security forces and Maoists. The ultras opened fire on spotting the security personnel, prompting retaliation. In the ensuing exchange of fire, the two Maoists were eliminated,' he said. Manku worked as an area committee member (ACM) in the KKBN division. Chandan was a member of the banned outfit operating in Kandhamal district. Security forces have intensified combing operation to ensure that no other Maoists are present in the area, the SP added. Following the encounter, DGP YB Khurania congratulated the Kandhamal SP and the DVF team on the success. Sources said with the anti-Naxal operation being intensified in Chhattisgarh, the Maoists are reportedly sneaking into the forests of Odisha. Kandhamal with its dense forests is proving to be a safe haven for the ultras. However, their activities have been curtailed due to incessant rains in the region since the last one week. In 2024, security forces killed six Maoists and arrested another eight ultras in Odisha. Similarly, 24 Maoists laid down their arms last year.

Security forces gun down 2 Maoists in Kandhamal forest
1 2 Berhampur: Two Maoists from Chhattisgarh were killed in an exchange of fires with security forces in Budhaguda forest in Kandhamal district on Monday, police said. The deceased rebels were identified as Manku and Chandan. While Manku was an area committee member (ACM) of the banned CPI (Maoist)'s Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division, Chandan was a party member. Police said both were active in Kandhamal. "Two firearms, including a .303 rifle, a walkie-talkie and Rs 4,500 were recovered from the spot," said SP (Kandhamal), Harsish B C. "Details about the deceased Maoists' involvement in any violent activities in Kandhamal or any other area in the state are being verified," he said. Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of rebels in the area, district voluntary force (DVF) and special operation group (SOG) personnel launched an anti-Maoist operation in the area on Sunday. During the operation, an exchange of fire took place around noon on Monday in Budaguda forest. Cops intensify search for Maoists in Odisha forests
1 2 Bhubaneswar: The recent intensified operations against Maoists in Chhattisgarh has reportedly forced them to disperse and seek refuge in adjacent forest areas, police officials said. Acting on intelligence reports, the special operation group (SOG) and district voluntary force (DVF) launched search operations in Charmal forests of Sambalpur district. Intelligence reports suggest that there was suspicious movement of some rebels from Chhattisgarh, who took shelter in these forests, prompting swift action from security forces. "It is an area domination exercise that is being carried out as part of ongoing offensive, search, and combing operations in Maoist-dominated areas in the state. It is not fully confirmed if the rebels dispersed and are trying to shift their bases. Considering their dwindling numbers in Odisha, it is not likely that they will have any sort of offensive action against security forces," said a senior police officer privy to the ongoing operations. In Oct last year, a senior Maoist cadre was killed in a combing operation launched by SOG in Kandhamal district. Since then, no Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) Maoist was killed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The combing was launched at Budanai reserve forest under Baliguda police limits. Earlier, DGP Y B Khurania said Odisha police are working hard to nip Left-wing extremism in the bud, reiterating the police effort to meet the Centre's target of eliminating LWE violence by March 2026. Nearly four years after Boudh was declared Maoist-free, the Centre again in March included it in LWE-affected list and treated it as a security related expenditure (SRE) district. Boudh, Koraput and Bargarh have been categorised as districts of legacy and thrust. Nuapada and Malkangiri districts are treated as districts of concern while Kalahandi and Kandhamal as most affected district. Police officers said thrust districts are those, where there is scope for expanding Maoist activities and hence more focus and planning are required to carry out anti-Maoist operations as well as sensitising people.
