Security forces gun down 2 Maoists in Kandhamal forest

Berhampur: Two Maoists from Chhattisgarh were killed in an exchange of fires with security forces in Budhaguda forest in Kandhamal district on Monday, police said.
The deceased rebels were identified as Manku and Chandan.
While Manku was an area committee member (ACM) of the banned CPI (Maoist)'s Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division, Chandan was a party member.
Police said both were active in Kandhamal.
"Two firearms, including a .303 rifle, a walkie-talkie and Rs 4,500 were recovered from the spot," said SP (Kandhamal), Harsish B C. "Details about the deceased Maoists' involvement in any violent activities in Kandhamal or any other area in the state are being verified," he said.
Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of rebels in the area, district voluntary force (DVF) and special operation group (SOG) personnel launched an anti-Maoist operation in the area on Sunday.
During the operation, an exchange of fire took place around noon on Monday in Budaguda forest. "After the gun battle, security forces found two bodies from the spot, while other Maoists managed to flee," the SP said.

He said no jawan was injured in the exchange of fire, which lasted for about half an hour.
Anti-Maoist operation in the area was further intensified by deploying more forces suspecting the Maoists who fled might have hidden in the dense forest, police said.
DGP Y B Khurania commended the Kandhamal SP and security forces for the successful operation.
Sources said it was the first major anti-Maoist operation in Kandhamal after Oct 2023, when security forces gunned down a divisional committee member of KKBN.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has raised questions over the prolonged delay in justice for Kanhaiyalal, whose murder became a political flashpoint ahead of the previous Assembly elections. Taking to social media just ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Jaipur, Gehlot alleged that despite quick action by the Rajasthan Police, the case has seen no substantial progress under the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which falls under Shah's ministry. Gehlot recalled that before the 2023 Assembly elections, Amit Shah repeatedly invoked the Kanhaiyalal case in election rallies across Rajasthan to target the then Congress-led state government. 'In this case, the Rajasthan Police arrested the accused within just four hours. Both were found to be linked to the BJP. Yet the NIA took over the investigation overnight. We did not object, despite that,' Gehlot stated. He alleged that the BJP misled the public with false claims of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh compensation being paid, which he claimed significantly contributed to the Congress government's defeat. 'Even after three years, justice has not been served. The NIA court doesn't even have a regular judge, and it has failed to get the statements of key witnesses recorded to date,' Gehlot added. Demanding answers from the Union Home Minister, Gehlot questioned how much longer Kanhaiyalal's family will have to wait for justice. 'The BJP used this case for political mileage, but they have done nothing to ensure speedy justice,' he said. He urged Shah to speak on the status of the case during his Jaipur visit and asked whether the Centre plans to strengthen the judicial process or continue using such sensitive matters for political benefit. Senior Maoist couple surrenders before Telangana's Rachakonda Police after 45 years underground
Two senior leaders of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), including the founding member of the party's cultural wing and a contemporary of revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, surrendered before the Rachakonda Police Commissioner on Thursday (July 17, 2025), marking a significant move away from decades of insurgent activity in Telangana and Chhattisgarh. The couple, identified as Mala Sanjeev alias Lengu Dada and Perugula Parvathi alias Bontala Parvathi or Deena, held key positions in the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC). Sanjeev, now 62, is originally from Yapral in Medchal–Malkajgiri district and served as a State Committee member and Secretariat member of Chaitanya Natya Manch (CNM), the cultural arm of the CPI (Maoist). His wife Parvathi, aged 50, from Vankeshwaram village in Nagarkurnool, held the rank of State Committee member and was part of CNM's Cultural Sub-Committee. The police said that their surrender was influenced by the Telangana government's rehabilitation policies and welfare schemes aimed at reintegrating former Maoists into civilian life. The couple expressed their desire to live peacefully with their families and give up the armed movement they were part of for over four decades. Rachakonda Police Commissioner, G. Sudheer Babu, described the surrender as 'a moral victory' for Telangana Police's sustained and inclusive approach towards counterinsurgency. 'Their decision reflects the growing confidence in our rehabilitation policy and the realisation that violence has no place in today's democratic society,' he said. Sanjeev's involvement with Maoist movement from 1980 Sanjeev's involvement with the Maoist movement began in 1980 through the Jana Natya Mandali (JNM), the cultural wing of the CPI (ML) People's War, led by Gummadi Vittal, also known as Gaddar. Between 1980 and 1986, Sanjeev played a crucial role in spreading the party's ideology through performances across 16 States alongside cultural figures like Dappu Ramesh and Divakar. He later joined the armed wing, working in multiple dalams across Telangana and was eventually promoted as State Committee Member in 2001. After being transferred to Chhattisgarh in 2003, he became the in-charge of CNM under DKSZC, where he remained active until his surrender. Parvathi entered Maoist ranks in 1992 Parvathi entered the Maoist ranks in 1992 and worked in several dalams in the Nallamala region and Visakhapatnam district before being posted to DKSZC in 2007. That same year, she married Sanjeev and continued to perform, compose and train Maoist cadres in Hindi, Telugu, and Koya languages. She was elevated to State Committee Member status in 2018. Both had previously survived exchanges of fire with security forces, Sanjeev in 2002 and 2005, and Parvathi in 2017. Rachakonda Police urged other underground Maoists from Telangana to follow suit and return to their native villages. 'We appeal to all those still underground to return and take part in rebuilding their communities. The door to peace and dignity is open,' said the Police Commissioner. The Police also warned of legal action against individuals operating under the guise of mass organisations with the intent to disrupt law and order. Citing a decline in Maoist recruitment and a shift in youth attitudes, authorities described Maoism as an outdated and failed ideology that has lost relevance in contemporary society. 'Lay down arms and leave the underground. Join the mainstream of public life,' the Commissioner said.

Case against ex-IAS officer Rajinder Pal Singh for hiding land title defects
Representative image HYDERABAD: A criminal case has been filed against former IAS officer Rajinder Pal Singh and two of his family members in relation to the 2,000 crore real estate project developed on their land in Khajaguda. They were accused of allegedly concealing title defects and stalling the construction of a 30-storey commercial tower on property. Based on the complaint of B Chakradhari, 50, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, on June 21, Central Crime Station (CCS) police registered a case against Rajinder Pal Singh, his wife Harvinder Kaur, and their daughter Mohini Chawla under Sections 318(4) (cheating) read with 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant purchased office space in the upcoming 'SAS I-Tower' project at Survey No. 19 in Khajaguda village. In his complaint, Chakradhari alleged that the landowners had assured the developer, SAS I-Tower, of a clear and marketable title over 10.32 acres and executed a development agreement-cum-general power of attorney (DAGPA) on Aug 16, 2018. Subsequent inquiries revealed that Harvinder Kaur had gifted 3.24 acres, about a third of the project land, to another daughter, Chetna Kaur, in 2001. Although Chetna executed a special power of attorney in 2017 authorising her mother to manage 3,500 sq yds, Harvinder allegedly cancelled the 2001 gift deed on March 13, 2017 without her daughter's consent and without disclosing the matter to the developer or buyers. Neither the 2018 DAGPA nor subsequent sale deeds reflected the earlier gift or the unilateral cancellation, constituting deliberate suppression of material facts, the complainant claimed. The title dispute came to light in March 2025 when a public sector bank refused to release a loan of 255 crore to the developer, citing the unresolved share of Chetna Kaur.
