Monsoon Session: Opposition uproar over Bihar SIR stalls Parliament for fifth consecutive day
NEW DELHI: Both houses of the Parliament were adjourned for the fifth consecutive day of the Monsoon session on Friday, as Opposition protests continued over the revision of electoral rolls (SIR) in Bihar. No significant legislative business was transacted for the fifth straight day. The Rajya Sabha proceeding was adjourned for the day shortly after it reassembled at noon on Friday as Opposition parties started raising slogans demanding the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar. The House will now meet at 11 am on Monday. When it met at noon, BJP MP K Laxman started a discussion and wanted to know the details of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan from Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. While Chouhan rose to speak, the Opposition MPs continued their protest and raised slogans demanding that the SIR exercise be stopped. Chouhan said that he wanted to answer the question as it is important and related to the welfare of farmers and women, but the Opposition didn't relent. He said that it was the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the benefits of scientific research should reach the farmers in real time, and that's why the government started Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan. BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was in the Chair, tried to urge the protesting members, but when he failed to do so, he adjourned the House for the day to reassemble on Monday.

Laxman urges stronger cyber security measures amid surge in online frauds
Hyderabad: On Monday, Rajya Sabha MP Dr K Laxman raised concerns about the growing threat of cyber fraud and digital financial crimes in India, urging decisive action to enhance the country's cybersecurity infrastructure. He highlighted that with India's rapid shift towards digital banking and UPI-based transactions under the Digital India initiative, citizens—especially senior citizens and those residing in semi-urban and rural areas—are becoming increasingly vulnerable to sophisticated online scams. Dr Laxman acknowledged the crucial role of the government, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and CERT-In in issuing timely advisories and establishing protective measures. He praised awareness campaigns such as the Cyber Jaagrukta Abhiyan, which aim to educate citizens on cyber threats. However, despite these initiatives, Dr Laxman stressed the need for further action. He urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Electronics and IT, and other relevant agencies to enhance enforcement capabilities, improve rapid-response systems, and promote digital literacy at the grassroots level. He pointed out that fraudsters often exploit digital ignorance and advocated for state governments to establish specialised cybercrime cells staffed with trained law enforcement personnel. 'The digital revolution must not become a breeding ground for fear,' Dr Laxman asserted. 'People should feel secure while embracing online services. This requires robust security measures, quick resolution of issues, and widespread education.'

Telangana BJP steps up efforts to implement party's national agenda
HYDERABAD: The BJP's Telangana unit has intensified its efforts to implement programmes announced by the party's national leadership, including One Nation One Election, Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations, round table meetings on Union Cabinet decisions, and the upcoming Tiranga Rally across the state. State party leaders, including Union ministers, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, MLAs, MLCs, and the candidates who lost elections, are actively participating in these initiatives. They are explaining the concept of One Nation One Election, highlighting how simultaneous polls can reduce wasteful expenditure. The party celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti at village and state levels, with leaders slamming the Congress for neglecting the legacy of the architect of the Indian Constitution. Party leaders at all levels have consistently targeted the Congress on this issue. To win over Backward Classes (BCs), the party is holding round table meetings with BC communities and intellectuals across villages and towns. These meetings emphasise how the Union Cabinet's decision to conduct a caste census alongside the general census will benefit BCs, distinguishing it from the state's census. The state leadership aims to attract BCs and other sections through this outreach. The BJP organised its first round table meeting in Hyderabad, chaired by OBC national president and MP K Laxman, with plans to hold similar events in every district. In response to the recent Pahalgam massacre, the party's national unit called for Tiranga Rallies nationwide. The Telangana unit is preparing a massive rally in Hyderabad in the first phase, followed by events at district headquarters, Assembly segments and municipality levels. BJP leaders, including MPs, MLAs, and senior figures, are engaging directly with grassroots activists, explaining the party's agenda and action plan, which has sparked interest in Telangana's political circles. While keeping up regular verbal attacks on the ruling Congress and the main opposition BRS through media conferences, the BJP is prioritising the national unit's programmes. Meanwhile, the Congress and BRS are preoccupied with accusing each other, allowing the BJP to focus on its agenda.

Ready to clear BJP's doubts on caste survey: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar
HYDERABAD: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday alleged that the BJP had brought down governments in Maharashtra, Bihar, and Jharkhand after they launched an exercise to conduct caste surveys. Countering BJP MP K Laxman's claims on the caste survey conducted in Telangana, he asserted that the Congress government was keen on providing proportional representation. In a statement released here, Prabhakar said that Telangana government has conducted the socio-economic, education, employment, political and caste survey as per Rahul Gandhi's idea of proportional representation — Jitni Abadi Utna Haq. Strongly asserting that they have done the survey in the most scientific manner, he demanded the Centre to approve Bills pertaining to enhancement of BC reservations to 42 per cent. The minister said that the Congress government has done its duty of passing the Bills at state level, and it is the responsibility of the BJP to ensure Centre approves it. He said that the state government was ready to clear the doubts of BJP leaders over the survey.
