KSLU to get dedicated administrative building after 15 yrs
Hubballi: After more than 15 years since its establishment, Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) in Hubballi is set to have its own dedicated administrative building. The construction of the G+3 structure is under way on 2.4 acres, at an estimated cost of Rs 39.5 crore. The building is expected to be completed by May 2026. KSLU, established in Jan 2009, currently operates from a former PWD guest house that was repurposed into an administrative office. Spread over a 55-acre campus, the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in constitutional law, intellectual property rights, business and trade law, criminal law, and international law. While around 1,200 students study on the campus, the university has a total student strength of approximately 45,000 across the state. The total built-up area of the four-storey structure will be 94,761 sq. ft. The ground floor will be 24,440 sq. ft, first floor 20,321 sq. ft, second floor 22,255 sq. ft, and third floor 20,321 sq. ft. KSLU vice-chancellor Prof C Basavaraju told TOI that the new building is being constructed on 2.4 acres in front of the existing building. "The project faced land allocation issues earlier. RM Kulkarni, KSLU assistant executive engineer (AEE), explained that the ground floor will house a canteen, bank, post office, storeroom, physical director's office, laboratory and toilets. The first floor will include the vice- chancellor's office, related administrative offices, DPAR section, legal cell, clinic, and a 60-seat auditorium. The second floor will accommodate the finance section, ICT section, syndicate zone and cabins, student welfare and development section, academic zone and toilets. The third floor will feature the engineering section, SC/ST records cell, planning and management office, NSS office, administrative section, and toilets.

SJMV Sangha starts law college in Hubballi
Hubballi-based Shree Jagadguru Moorusavir Mutt Vidyavardhak Sangha (SJMVS), which runs several educational institutions, has now established a new law college in Hubballi. It will be offering a five-year LL.B course starting this academic year. Addressing presspersons, along with honorary chairman of SJMV Sangha Arvind Kubusad, convenor of the Moorusavir Mutt High Level Committee and former MLC Mohan Limbikai said that the admission process for the five-year LL.B Integrated Programme affiliated to Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) will begin on July 1 and conclude on July 31. Mr. Limbikai said that apart from adhering to the syllabus prescribed by the KSLU, SJMVS Law College will be striving to provide the most comprehensive legal education by involving several practising advocates to guide and train students in the legal profession. The college will be temporarily functioning from the ground floor of the existing Moorusavir Mutt ITI premises and it will be shifted to Kusugal Road in Hubballi after the completion of work on the college building on the over 3 acres of land of the mutt. Construction work will commence soon, Mr. Limbikai said. He added that they have the requisite permissions from KSLU and the Bar Council of India for an intake of 50 students. Entrance examination will be organised for giving admission to the course. Mr. Kubusad said that the Bar Council of India has given permission for the college after virtual inspection of the infrastructure and amenities in the existing building. The college established with the theme, Learn the law and live the law, will strive towards making students imbibe values of democracy and the objectives of Constitution and live the noble ideas and ethics of law. Principal of the college Savita Deshpande said that students who have passed PU from any stream with 45% of marks are eligible to apply for admission to the LL.B programme. Management members of SJMV Sangha Shashidhar Sali, Sadanand Danganavar, Murugesh Yaklaspur, Lingaraj Ingalahalli, Viranna Kallur and Channabasappa Dharawadshettar were present.

Stand up for what is fair and just, law students told
Judge of the High Court of Karnataka Venkatesh Naik T. has emphasised need for law students to stand up for what is fair and just and never waver from their commitment to justice. Inaugurating the 11th Kannada Moot Court Competition organised by Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) in Hubballi on Saturday, he said that it is most important for law students to maintain Swadharma, inculcate principles ,work hard and maintain dignity in court halls. Emphasising the need for participating in moot court competitions as they help in enhancement of writing skills, research skills, oral advocacy skills, analytical skills and critical thinking, he said that these skills are crucial for court room success and vital attributes for a successful legal career. Elaborating on various legal career options for students, he said that law students should explore options of being Panel Advocate, Judge, Notary, Government Pleader, Advocate General, jobs and partnership in law firms and so on. Mr. Naik stressed on the need for students to make efforts to have an understanding of varied fields as it will help in their career and also called upon them to become models for others through their good professional and personal conduct. Presiding over the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor of KSLU C. Basavaraju said that the legal fraternity has the enormous responsibility of working towards building a healthy society and to make it free from all social evils. Prof. Basavaraju said that teaching law and values together will bring about a positive change in society. Registrar Evaluation and Director KSLU Law School Ratna Bharamagoudar, Finance Officer Sanjeev Kumar Singh and others were present. Students of law schools from across the State are participating in the annual event.
