Johor plans bigger KJH next year with Tourism, Majestic Johor
JOHOR BARU: The Johor state government plans to collaborate with Tourism Johor and Majestic Johor to expand the scale and reach of the Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) next year. State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said the initiative aims to provide a broader and more impactful platform for local young entrepreneurs. Speaking at the KJH X National Pineapple Day event at Angsana Johor Baru Mall, Mohd Hairi said that the three-day programme had already attracted more than 250,000 visitors as of yesterday. "I would like to express my sincere thanks to Media Prima for organising this programme, which serves as a stepping stone for emerging entrepreneurs. "We can see many Johorean entrepreneurs, particularly among the younger generation, raising their profiles and becoming more competitive in the market. "God willing, we hope to organise an even bigger programme next year. Today, visitors were already arriving early in the morning. I, along with the Tourism Johor director, may begin early planning, potentially in partnership with Majestic Johor. "I also hope that next year's edition will feature Johor-born artistes," he told reporters during his visit to the KJH X National Pineapple Day booths, accompanied by Media Prima chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Efendi Omar. Yesterday, Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup was reported as saying that the ministry was confident of achieving its 500,000-visitor target for KJH X National Pineapple Day. Karnival Jom Heboh returns, draws crowds in Johor Baru
JOHOR BARU: Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) heads south after a successful run in Kuala Lumpur last month. The three-day event kicks off today at Padang B, Angsana Johor Baru Mall, and will run until Sunday. For the first time, Malaysian Pineapple Day is being celebrated on a grand scale at KJH, adding a vibrant, festive twist and elevating the status of the tropical fruit — a national pride — to new heights. Organised by Media Prima Bhd in collaboration with the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board, the carnival begins at 9am daily and features a wide variety of activities, prizes and attractions. This iconic event, which has drawn over 300,000 visitors at each location, has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the "Longest Running Outdoor Event", thanks to its extensive lineup of crowd-pulling programmes. In Johor Baru, visitors can look forward to interactive booths hosted by the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP), Studio Tonton Drama Sangat (STDS), Studio Jom Heboh, Hot F and Vocket, with chances to win prizes and join in engaging activities. Today, crowds began arriving as early as 9am, with thousands flocking to exhibition booths. NSTP Business Development and Special Projects manager Tengku Kaifi Mirza Tuan Cherit said more than 2,000 visitors are expected at the NSTP booth, which features simulation and virtual reality games as its main draw. He said for as little as RM5, families can try out the specially curated simulation and virtual reality experiences. "For this edition of KJH, NSTP is bringing the thrill of driving through the NSTP Car Sim Experience, where visitors can test their driving skills in a realistic simulation that mimics the experience of being on an actual race track. "Meanwhile, the virtual reality game offers an exhilarating experience similar to riding a real roller coaster. "NSTP is only charging a low fee of RM5 to give more children and families the opportunity to enjoy the exciting simulation and virtual reality experiences," he said when met. Tengku Kaifi added that visitors to the NSTP booth will also receive complimentary copies of three newspapers; Berita Harian, Harian Metro and the New Straits Times, along with a goodie bag filled with various snacks and beverages. Meanwhile, trader Mohd Farhanuddin Mohd Osman, 42, described KJH 2025 Johor Baru as being filled with fresh and engaging content, including various exhibitions, particularly those related to pineapples, as well as Media Prima showcases. "The most interesting booth was NSTP's, as my two children had much fun with its fun simulation and virtual reality games that offered a unique experience. "In fact, both of them want to come back again tomorrow because they didn't get enough of NSTP's simulation games," he said. Housewife Siti Asiah Karim, 39, from Taman Molek, said her five children were thrilled to try out the simulation and virtual reality games specially brought in by NSTP to enliven this edition of KJH. "This is a new experience for my two sons, aged 12 and 10, as they are avid video game fans. But this is the first time they had the chance to experience simulation and virtual reality gaming," she said.

Virtual Racing thrills families at NSTP booth during Karnival Jom Heboh
KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors to the Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) at KL Base were treated to an exciting dose of futuristic fun at the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) booth, which featured a virtual racing experience powered by augmented reality (AR) technology. The interactive activity allowed participants to use a gaming steering wheel to control a physical toy car on a designated track. A television screen in front of the drivers displayed the actual course, enhanced with car designs and digital power-ups, creating an immersive virtual racing environment. Rahmat Hilmi, 40, from Keramat praised the unique experience, adding that it brought families together. "It's really something different from the other booths. It brings that family vibe where everyone, regardless of age, can take part," he said. He also suggested a few improvements, including increasing the visibility of the activity from afar to attract more visitors. "Right now, people have to walk past the booth before they notice the TV screen. "Maybe clearer signage or better promotional visuals could help catch attention from a distance," he added. The booth offered the activity at a family-friendly price of RM20 for four people, which many found worthwhile. Meanwhile, checks from morning until 3pm did not see as many visitors flooding into KJH as compared to previous locations. One of the visitors, Ahmad Naqiuddin Shah. 27, who lives nearby the carnival at Jalan Klang Lama said it could be due to the hot weather. "I came because it just so happens to be near my house which is only 15 minutes away. "It might not seem lively right now, especially earlier in the afternoon due to the hot weather. "But maybe people are looking forward to the concert tonight when the temperature is cooler. "But I would recommend people to come because KJH is known for its fun and family-friendly activities. And on the bright side, there is ample parking for visitors," he said. KJH, the roadshow-style carnival will continue its tour across other states, including Penang, Johor, Kelantan, and Sarawak. Adding to the excitement at KL Base will be a special appearance by cast members from the hit film Ejen Ali 2, which is currently screening in cinemas nationwide. In addition to the AR racing experience, visitors can look forward to a host of exciting programmes throughout the day. At 4.30pm, the first Drama Meet and Greet session featuring cast members from Bukan Ipar Sempurna, Fazleena Md Daud, Atira Karma, Jiha Sham and Cahaya Nilam, will take place at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat. This will be followed by a second session at 6.15pm for fans of Aku Bukan Ustazah 2, where Ahmad Syafiq, Fikhree Bakar and Shaza Bae are scheduled to make an appearance. The festivities will culminate in the much-anticipated Konsert Jom Heboh at 9pm on the Pentas Utama stage. The concert will showcase performances by a star-studded lineup including Shiha Zikir, Bunga Isme, Puteri Khareeza, Ameerais, Aisha Retno, Khai Bahar and the group A.X.P, led by Amir Sofaz.

Alif Zafran wins KJH cosplay contest with homemade Satria suit
PIC BY NSTP/RAIHANA MANSOR KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven-year-old Alif Zafran Zairif stole the spotlight at the Ejen Ali cosplay competition during Karnival Jom Heboh at KL Base today, wearing a striking homemade replica of the animated hero's Satria suit. The Satria suit, short for System Advance Tactical Raid Intelligence Armor, is a signature upgrade from the animated series, characterised by its high-tech design, glowing blue LED lights, visor helmet, and reinforced combat-ready body plating. Alif's father, Zairif Affizal, 38, was the creative force behind the costume, completing the project in just two weeks after learning about the competition. "I only found out about the Ejen Ali cosplay contest two weeks ago, so I worked on it day and night," said Zairif, who used images and videos from Facebook and TikTok for reference. "This was my second time making a costume, and I wanted to go all out for my son." Rather than ordering a custom made suit which can cost up to RM1,000, Zairif built the ensemble from scratch himself for under RM300, using mainly EVA foam and recycled materials. He said the most challenging part was crafting the helmet. "To get it right, you really need skill. Without the proper technique, it ends up looking odd. "It took some trial and error to get the shape, proportions and finish just right." Alif took home RM500 and some goodies, followed by the runner-up and third place both cosplaying as Ejen Alicia winning RM400 and RM300. Judging the competition was Ejen Rizwan voice actor Azman Zulkiply, who praised the high level of creativity shown by all participants, especially the support shown by parents. "If I could, I'd make everyone the winner. "Every contestant had their own unique effort, and you could see how happy the kids were on stage," he told reporters. He admitted it was a tough decision but ultimately named Alif as his personal favourite. "I really liked Alicia, the last contestant with the action scene, very cool with the cut-outs and all. "But if I had to choose one, I'd go with the Satria suit. The glowing blue eyes and lights were next-level. You could see the effort." Azman also praised the Ejen Ali franchise for instilling positive values in children. "The series promotes friendship, loyalty and other strong values. "It's wonderful to see parents supporting their kids through local content like this. "It shows how much fun and pride there is in celebrating something made in Malaysia." The day's activities kicked off at 9am with Zumba with Ejen Ali, followed by a colouring contest at the mini stage at Studio Tonton Drama Sangat and the cosplay competition at 11am. Yesterday, Fans of Ejen Ali: The Movie 2 flocked to a special meet-and-greet session at Karnival Jom Heboh 2025 to catch a glimpse of the voice actors and mascots of the popular animation. Shafiq Isa and Noorhayati Maslini Omar, who voice Ejen Bakar and Ejen Alicia, charmed the crowd with an interactive session and prize giveaways.
