2025 Unadilla Motocross 450 Qualification: Jett Lawrence tops first session
NEW BERLIN, New York: Jett Lawrence (2:11.757) took his time getting up to speed and was one of the last riders to start his first lap, but he rocketed to the top of the chart immediately. He fell back to fourth for a few laps and then put in a heater at the end to land on top with a lap more than 1.6 seconds faster than the field. Justin Cooper (2:13.443) slotted into second as he looks to reclaim his top-five momentum after finishing just outside that mark last week. Eli Tomac (2:15.438) was nearly two seconds further back in third, but he was on top of the chart for a while, indicating he may have mistimed when to put in his fast lap. Ken Roczen (2:15.538) returned to action this week to shake some rust off before the SuperMotocross playoffs with the fourth-fastest time. Jorge Prado (2:15.769) rounded out the top five. Jett Lawrence graces 2025 Met Gala red carpet with classic style
Occasionally, an athlete emerges in an established sport with the capacity to change how it is viewed. On Monday, May 5, 2025, Jett Lawrence joined another groundbreaking racer, Lewis Hamilton, at the iconic Met Gala in New York City. Lawrence was the first SuperMotocross athlete to walk the red carpet at the exclusive event. 'It's honestly an honor,' Lawrence said before being called onto the carpet. 'It shows that moto's expanding into new spaces, and I get to help lead that. I'm proud to rep the sport and show the world we've got style too.' The theme of the 2025 Met Gala was 'Superfine Tailoring: Black Style, Black Dandyism' which called for fearless expression and boundary-defying elegance. Jett delivered with his boyish good looks and sense of style, showing a sophistication that dirt bike racing often fails to evoke. Lawrence's suit was tailored by David August, crafted from a deep aubergine self-floral jacquard. The double-breasted suit harkened to an earlier epoch of style, but was modernized with a hidden fly front, sculptural exaggerated peak lapels, and sleek jetted flat pockets. Standing in the gap between ageless icons of SuperMotocross like Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen and new additions to the 450 division such as Justin Cooper and Christian Craig, Lawrence's Gala experience was a turning point for the sport. Lawrence was joined by other superstar athletes, including Hamilton, who co-chaired the event, Saquon Barkley, Simone Biles, Joe Burrow, Serena Williams, and Jalen Hurts, plus several others. Lawrence will return to SuperMotocross for Round 18 of the SMX World Championship and Round 1 of Pro Motocross from Fox Raceway in Pala, California, in two weeks on May 24, 2025. Ken Roczen to miss final two Supercross rounds, to heal from shoulder, ankle injuries
Ken Roczen will miss the final two rounds of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season so he can spend the time healing from shoulder and ankle injuries. Roczen suffered further damage to his right ankle this week during a practice session. Advertisement Despite riding with injury, Roczen finished in the top 10 in every race since Tampa, Florida, in Round 5. He has slowly lost contact with the championship battle, and with a 54-point deficit to Cooper Webb, he was mathematically eliminated last week in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. "It's tough to step away with just two rounds remaining," said Roczen in a news release. "But with the new injury, I need to prioritize long-term health and recovery. I'm proud of what we've accomplished so far this season and I'll be supporting the team as they head into the final rounds." The additional injury to his ankle will require Roczen to undergo surgery. Any complications could put the start of the Pro Motocross season, which begins May 24, 2025 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. "Ken has been pushing through a lot of adversity this season," Larry Brooks, HEP Motorsports/Suzuki Team Manager, said. "He's been incredibly tough and focused on delivering for the team each weekend, even while managing pain. This new development is unfortunate, but we support him fully in taking the necessary steps to heal properly."
