Inside Kim Murray's Approach To Calm At Cromlix Hotel

Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane cromlix Just north of Stirling, Scotland, surrounded by open greenery, sits Cromlix, an estate that Kim and Andy Murray have transformed into a five-star hotel. Full of Victorian charm, it was once a private home and still carries that warmth, something Kim, the creative force behind the project, was determined to preserve. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane cromlix Cromlix also holds personal significance and memories for the couple; they may have acquired it in 2013 and took over the full running of it in 2023, but their connection goes back much further — Andy grew up nearby, his grandparents celebrated their silver wedding anniversary there in 1982, and its where Kim and Andy tied the knot in 2015 — so the estate has been a constant backdrop to celebratory times for the family. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane Cromlix Now, it its iteration as a luxury hotel, Kim oversees every detail of the guest experience, from the fabrics and florals to the artwork and menus. At the heart of her vision is a commitment to local artisans and makers, championing the best of Scottish craft and character. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane Cromlix The hotel brings in local experts too, who host workshops, from floral design and watercolor painting, to wellbeing days, and this all comes together to offer a special escape that balances elegance with ease — a place to settle in, slow down, and feel at home. Kim Murray at Cromlix cromlix To celebrate its upcoming wellbeing days, Kim shares her guide to personal calm at Cromlix. Spend Time In Nature I'm a big believer in the restorative power of nature. It's something I've appreciated more and more as I've got older, and had a family. I see how important it is for all of us to just get outdoors in whatever form that takes – going for a walk, chasing a ball, spotting wildlife. At Cromlix we are lucky to have 34 acres of private grounds and woodland so there is lots of space to explore, reap the benefits of the beautiful Scottish countryside and just breathe. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane cromlix Take Time To Enjoy Simple Pleasures There is something luxurious about running your own bath, shutting the bathroom door and relaxing for an hour or so. Cromlix has recently introduced a whole bath time ritual which includes having your bath drawn for you, laden with heavenly essential oils, a relaxing playlist pumped into the expansive bathrooms and LED candles softly lighting the room. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane Cromlix I'll definitely be trying that out when I next visit as I rarely get the chance to have a bath at home, and when I do, I'm usually sharing it with a child or three. Other simple pleasures I enjoy at Cromlix are sitting down for a cup of loose leaf tea, listening to the birds, appreciating the art on the walls and if I'm really lucky, reading a book. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane Cromlix Bring Your Dog We have recently got a new puppy; a flatcoated retriever who is into everything and full of energy. At 10 weeks old, I'm not finding her very calming at the moment. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane Cromlix However, there is lots of research to say that holidaying with your dog is beneficial, and can help reduce stress. We have not taken her with us yet to Cromlix, but she's already excited about the doggie hamper and sleeping in our room. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane Cromlix Flower Arranging When we took over the running of the hotel ourselves, in 2023, I wanted there to be fresh flowers in every room. We are lucky to have a fantastic Kitchen Garden at the hotel and our Head Gardener, Kathy, is doing an amazing job at keeping it stocked throughout the seasons. I started flower arranging myself a few years ago and love the mindfulness it provides. I always visit the Kitchen Garden when I go to Cromlix (Kathy is very generous with her time and happy to give guests a guided tour) and if I have time will pick some blooms for the house too. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane cromlix Go Phone Free During term time with four children I become a bit of a slave to my phone, to stay on top of all of the Whatsapp groups and school updates. But when I go away on holiday I try to go screen-free. Andy and I are trying to keep our children off devices for as long as possible, so it's important they learn that behaviour from us. It's quite hard at the beginning to switch off but by day two, the absence of messages pinging into your inbox is pure bliss. Do Nothing One of our most popular packages at Cromlix is the Do-Nothing Cation, which does exactly what it says on the tin: encourages our guests to just be. For me there is huge appeal in not booking up every minute of our holiday and rushing from one activity to the next. It will allow us to be a bit more spontaneous and enjoy just spending time together. Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane cromlix Address: Cromlix, Kinbuck, Stirling FK15 9JT. Book into the Embracing Change - Yoga and Wellbeing Day on Monday 22nd of September, 2025.

''Bringing the fun to them': Families R Us group hosts block party in Prospect neighborhood

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Prospect youth were playing musical chairs while a pop song played Saturday. Flood City Youth Fitness Academy's Dazzling Divas were dancing in lockstep – and Ramel Malphurs, 9, was getting a Batman mask hand-painted on his face. "This is about bringing the fun to them," said Kim Murray, one of the Families R Us co-organizers. Saturday's event brought the party to the Prospect Housing Community – and it's just one in a series of neighborhood block parties planned across the city. The grassroots Families R Us group formed after the event's previous lead organizer, Hope 4 Johnstown, was charged by the state Attorney Generals Office on to an unrelated, alleged sporting event ticket scam. Families R Us organizers partnered with a list of city organizations, including the YMCA, the 1889 Foundation, Vision Together and the Greater Johnstown School District to ensure five scheduled youth events remained on track. "We know these neighborhoods depend on these events every summer," Murray said, noting its become tradition in communities such as Prospect. Malika Malphurs of Johnstown praised the event Saturday. "This gives the kids something to do and it brings communities together," she said. Nearby, Queen-Poetri Dozier was painting a super hero design on her stepson Ramel's face, while her daughter Myraclelove, 3, waited for her turn. Ramel showed off his new mask before turning his attention to a twin set of bounce houses. Arabella Cooper, 9, was climbing on a swing set nearby while Vision Together Executive Director Rob Forcey was flipping a sizzling griddle full of hamburgers. "There's no community without 'U' and 'I,' " said Dozier, an event volunteer. Murray said that certainly applied Saturday. Greater Johnstown School District officials and Vision Together donated cases of burgers and hot dogs, while 1889 Foundation donated buns, she said. Nearby, Outreach Specialist Senda Harvey of The Backpack Project was with a bowl full of apples – but she was also offering families help throughout the school year. The local nonprofit coordinates with Cambria County schools to ensure kids don't go hungry – but Harvey said the group recognizes some families can slip through the cracks. The block parties serve as a perfect opportunity to reach them in their own neighborhoods, she said. "We want to make sure kids are fed because you can't learn in school if you are hungry," Harvey said. Organizers plan each event to host local organizations like theirs at each block party. "This is our chance to let the community know we can help, regardless of their income level," Senda said. Murray said blocl party volunteers knocked on doors Saturday morning to remind families about the event. "Some of these kids don't have the same opportunities (for vacations or trips to amusement parks)," Murray said. "So something like this, they look forward to it." The group's next event is planned for July 26 at Johnstown Housing Authority's Oakhurst basketball court from noon to 4 p.m.

Andy Murray hotel cited as Scots hotels shine in April

The performance defied wider trends across the UK which saw profits and room rates fall, according to the latest RSM Hotels Tracker. The report highlighted the appeal of the luxury hotel offer in Scotland, and cited investment in prestigious destinations such as Cromlix, Sir Andy and Kim Murray's luxury hotel near Dunblane. 'Scotland's hotel sector was hit with a double whammy in April as hoteliers battled with a rise in employment costs combined with deflationary pressure on room rates. However, they still managed to offset the increase in employment costs and generate a rise in profits, against the downward trend seen in the wider UK market, which saw a fall in daily rates and loss of profits,' said Stuart McCallum, partner and head of consumer markets in Scotland at RSM UK. 'Despite last month's bump, and higher overheads in April, it seems the industry is managing these cost pressures well while maintaining its large workforce. Much of Scotland's hotel footfall comes from international tourists seeking luxury stays, with hotels continuing to invest in their facilities and services to offer visitors a range of experiences including fine dining, whisky tasting and bespoke packages. 'We've seen a shift in behaviour from tourists visiting Scotland as they trade up their accommodation for more high-end stays, with hoteliers mirroring this trend to focus on quality over cost-cutting. Sites such as Cromlix House and The Glenturret have enhanced their offerings with exclusive whisky tastings, excursions and private dining, which aside from boosting Scotland's economy outside of Edinburgh, will grow revenue and compensate for extra payroll costs.' Read more: Data compiled and produced by Hotstats and analysed by RSM show hotel payroll costs, as a percentage of revenue, in Scotland increased from 31.7% to 32.4% in April year-on-year, and from 31.6% to 33.3% in the UK. Average daily rates (ADR) of occupied rooms in Scotland increased from £125.57 to £126.33 in April year-on-year, but fell in the UK from £138.29 to £137.54 during the same period. Increased demand meant revenue per available room (RevPAR) rose 3.8% year-on-year to £97.12 in Scotland, and by 3% in the UK. Scotland also saw gross operating profits rise from 28.2% in April 2024 to 30.3% in April 2025. However, UK RevPAR was not enough to offset the increase in costs, with gross operating profits dipping from 31.8% to 30.1%. Thomas Pugh, economist at RSM UK, said: 'The RSM Hotels Tracker backs up two trends that we have seen elsewhere in the economy. First, the disruption from US tariffs and subsequent surge in uncertainty last month doesn't seem to have stopped consumers from spending money. Indeed, we saw stronger retail sales, hotel bookings and pub spending in April. This is probably a reflection of UK households' real incomes rising strongly over the past few years and, ultimately, that is a bigger driver of UK consumer spending than US trade tariffs. 'Second, even though headline CPI inflation jumped to 3.5% in April, this was almost entirely down to utility, tax rises and the late Easter. We saw little evidence of firms passing on the increase in employment taxes and that is backed up by the data for hotels. 'Admittedly, the economy will weaken in Q2 and is now facing a series of headwinds, including tariffs, uncertainty, higher taxes and slower global growth, which it wasn't facing at the start of the year. That means growth will probably come in around the same as last year at a little over 1%. But the signs suggest that consumers are getting a bit more comfortable with opening their wallets, which will be a strong tailwind to offset all those headwinds.'

Anyone for gardening? Just don't ask former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray!

Andy Murray and wife Kim have opened up about their love for gardening – although the retired tennis ace has admitted he is hopeless at it. The couple invited gardening supremo Monty Don to their luxury hotel Cromlix, in Dunblane, Perthshire, for a look and explained the work around the property has been inspired by Kim's own love for flowers and plant. But Sir Andy confessed: 'I'm definitely not green fingered and actually I don't even know what that means either. 'I'm assuming it is a gardening term that I should know.' The father-of-four left his wife in stitches with the comments but she later told Mr Don on BBC Gardners' World she aims to get him into gardening having just planted 6,000 tulips around their own estate. She added: 'He was not into art but I got him into art. 'And he noticed my tulips this year. 'Andy has more time in his hands now and he has a very curious mind so I think one day he'll get into it.' Mrs Murray said she was first invited to the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in 2013 when a hosta was named after her husband. She said: 'I was very excited to visit and I received a hosta named Andy Murray and I brought it home and I took great pride in planting it out and it got absolutely decimated by slugs really rapidly.' However, since then she has manged to oversee a kitchen garden at Cromlix which produces cut flowers for the house and ingredients for the kitchen and the bar.
