The Real Controversy of ‘Superman' Is a CGI Dog
Kelly Woods can't stand Superman's canine sidekick, Krypto. The 58-year-old retired truck driver grew up watching the Superman cartoons in the 1970s. 'When Krypto first came into the cartoons, it ruined it for me,' said Woods. He felt the creators were trying too hard to add unnecessary characters.

SUPERMAN VFX Artist Reveals Deleted Scene with Krypto and a Trail of Dead Abominable Snowmen — GeekTyrant
A VFX artist who worked on James Gunn's Superman has pulled back the curtain on a bizarre deleted moment that almost made the final cut. The scene, described by artist Matthew Eberle in a recent social media post, involved Krypto the Superdog and… a gruesome trail of dead abominable snowmen. Eberle explained: 'Originally… when Krypto is dragging Superman, they pass by several dead abominable snowmen… Superman says 'Krypto, you have to stop killing abominable snowmen'… Hit the cutting room floor. I was there.' The update also explains the Yeti-themed merchandise tied to the film's marketing, including a 'Fortress of Solitude Battle Set' that had fans scratching their heads when the creatures never appeared in the theatrical release. According to Eberle, the deleted moment would have taken place immediately after Superman's brutal defeat by the Hammer of Boravia in the opening sequence, which was a scene that sets the tone for the entire film. While the concept of Krypto casually mowing down Yetis sounds like something ripped from Gunn's trademark dark humor, it also risked breaking the tension of a critical introduction. The opening of Superman is designed to establish the hero's vulnerability and the stakes of the new DC Universe. Dropping in a joke like that, especially one so grim, might have undercut that dramatic weight. At the same time, they stuck with the gag of Krypto jumping on Superman over and over again. I think it would've been fun to see a trail of dead abominable snowmen! What do you think?

Dean Cain Calls James Gunn's Ma and Pa Kent "Stupid Rednecks" in SUPERMAN — GeekTyrant
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman star Dean Cain is sharing his thoughts on Superman , and while he had a few nice things to say, he definitely didn't hold back on what rubbed him the wrong way about James Gunn's take on the iconic characters. The actor, who played Clark Kent in the beloved '90s series, recently sat down with Variety and offered up a mixed bag of opinions about the new film. Surprisingly, he started on a positive note, saying, 'Seeing Krypto in the trailer gave me goose bumps. He saves a squirrel. He saves a little girl. I respect that.' That moment clearly struck a chord with Cain, even if the rest of the movie didn't land the same way for him. Cain didn't confirm whether he's actually seen Superman , but he didn't mince words when it came to one creative decision in particular. 'James Gunn and his decision to make Ma and Pa Kent the stupid rednecks. That's a choice,' Cain said. 'And Superman has to be saved, like, repeatedly? On a movie this size, every decision is a choice made carefully. And [DC Studios co-head] Peter Safran is a Princeton guy, too, a year ahead of me, but he's never hired me.' Now, calling the Kents 'stupid rednecks' definitely isn't cool, especially since many fans like myself embraced the down-to-earth, heartwarming portrayal of Jonathan and Martha Kent in the film. These weren't caricatures; they were loving, honest people doing their best to raise a son with godlike powers. So for Cain to label them that is mean-spirited and way out of touch. Cain went on to reflect on the impact playing Superman had on his life. 'My buddy turns to me and goes, 'Man, for the rest of your life, people are going to call you Superman.' I couldn't fathom that being the case at the time, but it changed my life insanely.' He also recalled some of the backlash he faced back in 1993 for taking on the role. 'I remember a fan going, 'We wanted Superman, not Sushi Man,'' Cain said, referencing his Japanese American heritage. 'For the love of God, he's a Kryptonian. He could be green. Does it matter?' Despite the hate, he made it clear he's all for more diverse casting, even throwing out Michael B. Jordan as a future Superman, saying he 'has all the qualities of Superman — that humility, that kindness, that openness, that earnestness.' Even if Cain's critiques feel a little off-base, it's interesting to see how former Supermen are reacting to the new era of the character. For better or worse, Superman is sparking big conversations, and that's always a sign that something's working.

Abandoned dog with anxiety looks just like dog in ‘Superman.' He needs a hero
A dog that is the spitting image of Krypto, a sidekick in James Gunn's 'Superman,' is looking for a new person to love on him after he was abandoned at a shelter in Texas. Meet Bentley, an almost 4-year-old terrier-doodle mix, who is having trouble fitting into his new foster home, the South Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Lubbock says. 'I was surrendered to the rescue due to no fault of my own. At first I had a really hard time transitioning from being with my family to being in my foster home. I struggled so much that I had to start taking anxiety medication to help me be okay,' the shelter said in a July 7 Facebook post, speaking in Bentley's voice. 'I am the most cuddly and sweet guy once you get to know me and I get to feel and I get to feel and I learn to trust you. It may take a little while for me to warm up so I need someone with a lot of patience and a big patient heart to understand I am a good loving boy.' The shelter failed to point out Bentley and Krypto's resemblance, however. Krypto has been stealing hearts all over the nation after the release of the latest movie from the DC Universe. The movie even lead to a 500-percent surge in dog adoption interest, according to The Wrap. The inspiration for the not-so-trainable sidekick came from Gunn's own rescue pup, Ozu, whom he adopted while writing the script for the film, CNN reported. Now, it's time for Bentley to find his own Man of Steel (or, rather, his own Supergirl for those who have seen the film.) 'I am 95% potty trained and sleep well in a kennel at night or when my foster mom is away from home. I get along well with other animals as long as I have a slow introduction. I do kind of feel like I should be boss and tell everyone what they should do,' the shelter said. The shelter says the sweet boy would prefer a home without small children, but he's okay with cats and dogs. For more information on Krypto's double, visit the shelter's website. Lubbock is about a 350-mile drive northwest from Dallas.
