LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday paid surprise visits to different areas of Lahore and inspected various zones under the Lahore Development Plan. The citizens congratulated Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on the success of Operation 'Bunyan-un-Marsus.' The chief minister raised slogans of Pakistan Zindabad. She suddenly reached a vegetable shop and checked rates of various commodities. She made surprise visits to various projects yesterday and reviewed their construction quality. She inspected under-construction roads, streets and drainage projects. She directed to ensure quality in the under-completion projects at all costs. She directed to ensure timely completion of Lahore Development Plan. She conversed with the local citizens and inquired about ongoing development projects. The citizens expressed their gratitude to the chief minister for launching Lahore Development Plan. She made a surprise visit to a vegetable shop after inspecting Lahore Development Plan project. She hugged a woman and asked about the rates of vegetables. She inquired about the rates of onions, bitter gourd, potatoes, cabbage and guar beans. On the inquisition of the chief minister, a woman told her about reduction of vegetables prices. She also checked official price list at the vegetable shop. She said, 'It gives me immense worry all day long that edibles do not become expensive for the people.' She called a little child close to her and expressed her affection. She also visited a market in the Chauburji area. The shopkeepers expressed their pleasant surprise after seeing the Chief Minister among them. The citizens told her about the newly built road of the market which remained broken and deteriorated for a long period of time. The CM said, 'I myself wanted to pay a visit to different areas so as to inspect the condition of streets and roads of Lahore. I feel profound rejoice to serve the citizens.' She also inquired about the citizens well-being. She inquired about cleanliness arrangements and other projects. The citizens prayed for her and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif's well-being. A citizen while talking to the Chief Minister apprised her that no Chief Minister in the past had ever inquired them about their well-being and other problems. They highly appreciated her for paying a visit to inspect ongoing development projects. The citizens remarked that their streets remained in a dilapidated condition and there was dirt all around for long. They prayed for good health and long life of Nawaz Sharif. They appreciated the chief minister's vision for launching development projects not only in Lahore but across Punjab as well. The citizens acknowledged that their street was built after 40 years within a short span of 15 days only. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inspected under-construction road, street and drainage projects in progress under the Lahore Development Plan during a surprise visit to several areas of the city. The chief minister directed the officials concerned to ensure the quality of the construction work at all cost and ensure timely completion of the development plan. She also visited a vegetable shop and checked the prices. She visited a market in the Chauburji area and enquired about the citizens' well-being, cleanliness arrangements and projects on the occasion. According to an official statement, citizens said their street had been built within 15 days after a wait of 40 years. However, sources in the relevant departments said the completion in time of the whole of the Lahore Development Programme launched with an estimated cost of Rs137 billion was likely to be a challenge for the departments concerned. They said the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had so far completed 45 per cent of the development work assigned to it under the programe. The metropolitan corporation has completed 32% of the work. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved an allocation of Rs137 billion for various schemes for WASA and the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore. In the first phase of the plan, 252 WASA schemes were approved for the Gulberg, Ravi, Data Ganj Bakhsh, Samnabad, Iqbal Town and Nishtar zones with an estimated cost of Rs41.35 billion. An amount of Rs29.35 billion was initially released for the projects, of which Rs12.8 billion has been spent so far. During the past five months, 45% of the projects have been completed while the work on the rest is under way. The highest ratio of incomplete projects is in Samnabad. The work in the Ravi zone will be carried out in the second phase. WASA Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed told The Express Tribune that work on the development programme is progressing rapidly and the chief minister has released funds to solve the problems of Lahore on a permanent basis. He said WASA would complete its work in all the zones by July 30. On the other hand, the metropolitan corporation has to implement 3,820 schemes across the city at a cost of Rs19 billion, but work has been started on 2,676 of them so far. Out of the schemes, 960 have been completed, depicting a rate of 32%. The sources said Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza had expressed dissatisfaction during a recent meeting over the slow pace of work in some areas after being briefed about the ongoing development schemes. The officials said that most of the schemes could only be completed after the work on sewerage and water supply lines would be completed by WASA. The DC said instructions had been issued to the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore to complete the Lahore Development Programme Phase I by June 30 so that the schemes could be concluded within the stipulated time frame. Instructions were also issued to WASA to complete the work within the time frame. Deputy Commissioner Musa Raza the second phase of the development programme would be launched as soon as possible after the completion of Phase I.

LAHORE: 'Ensure timely completion of Lahore Development Plan by setting monthly timelines,' Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, said. While chairing a special meeting to review implementation of work on Lahore Development Plan, the CM tasked Senior Provincial Minister and Chief Secretary Punjab, to ensure timely completion of the plan. She conducted a visual inspection of different projects, and set 30th June deadline for the construction and rehabilitation of 3705 streets of Lahore Municipal Corporation and 230 streets of WASA. The Chief Minister also set a final deadline for the construction and repair of WASA Works in 1573 streets. She noted, 'Lahore Development Plan Phase-II includes construction and repair of streets and other projects in Allama Iqbal, Aziz Bhatti and Wagah Towns. Delay in completion of development schemes affects daily life of people.' She vowed, 'I consider myself accountable to the public, I cannot tolerate any difficulty for them.' Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed the provincial senior minister and chief secretary to ensure timely completion of the Lahore Development Plan by setting monthly timelines. Chairing a meeting, the chief minister conducted a visual inspection of various projects and set the date Adkins of June 30 for the construction and rehabilitation of 3,705 streets by Lahore Municipal Corporation and 230 by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). She also set the final deadline for construction and repair work by WASA in 1,573 streets. She noted, "Lahore Development Plan Phase-II includes construction and repair of streets and other projects in Allama Iqbal, Aziz Bhatti and Wagah Towns." The CM highlighted, "Delay in completion of development schemes affects daily life of people. I consider myself accountable to the public, I cannot tolerate any difficulty for them." Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan, Henny de Vries. Dutch hockey legend Floris Jan Bovelander and Pakistani-origin footballer Kayanat Bokhari were also present. The chief minister said on the occasion, "Historically, Pakistan-Netherlands relations have led to a significant growth in the areas of trade, agriculture, education and capacity building. We will strengthen mutual cooperation in all fields, including political, economic, cultural and sports. It is gratifying that the bilateral trade volume between has reached $2.3 billion. There is a vast potential for promoting economic cooperation between Pakistan and Netherlands." "Promoting women's participation and empowerment is my foremost priority," she added.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered desilting of the Lahore canal and the car nstruction of a sewerage system while keeping in view the future needs of the city. She was presiding over a meeting to review progress on the Lahore Development Programme where the deputy commissioner presented a report. The CM was informed that WASA would lay a total 780 kilometres of new pipes of one to six feet diameter in Lahore. In the first phase, 450km of sewerage pipes will be laid. The contract is being launched through the Lahore Development Management Information System. NESPAK will inspect the project through the Inspector App. Digital tracking of physical and financial progress can also be done through the management information system. The CM was informed that Rs16 billion had been saved by adopting transparency in the Lahore Development Plan. In the first phase of the plan, construction, renovation and development of six zones in Lahore will be done. The development plan includes construction of water supply and drainage system, connecting roads and streets pavement. Installation of street lights and rehabilitation of parks are also included in the plan. The CM said, "Streets in villages should be paved on the same pattern and quality as in cities. No compromise will be made on the quality of development projects." Fund reallocation Meanwhile, Rs340 million has been released for procurement of medicines for Mayo Hospital on the chief minister's instructions. According to an official statement, permission has been granted to use the existing funds meant for pay and allowance of the vacant posts in the hospital for purchasing medicines. The finance department has issued an order to reallocate the funds.
