Tom Walker reveals reason he invited folk group to join him at TRNSMT

Cammy, from Fife, joined Walker by playing the bagpipes on the song Leave A Light On. Singer Tom Walker has revealed the heartwarming reason he invited folk favourite Cammy Barnes to join him at TRNSMT music festival. Cammy, from Fife, joined Walker by playing the bagpipes on the song Leave A Light On. ‌ Walker, 33, said the tune got everybody buzzing for the main stage performance and revealed he has been a fan of Cammy for years - including when they were in a band together. ‌ 'It's the first time I've played the main stage. I've played the King Tut's stage a few times so it's really good to be back.' He added: 'I brought Cammy Barnes up as a surprise on the last song, Leave A Light On, and he played the bagpipes. 'I've been a big supporter of Cammy because me and him played with the Red Hot Chill Pipers. 'We did a few gigs over the years together with the Red Hot Chili Pipers but I always got to chat to him backstage. 'He's such a nice guy. ‌ 'He's started up his own thing, he's writing his own songs and he's a great artist and a great singer. "He slams it on the pipes.' Looking back on the rousing version of Leave A Light On complete with Barnes playing the bagpipes, Walker said: 'Oh my God, he was amazing. People should go watch that. It's going to be up on the iPlayer. ‌ Bringing the pipes out in Scotland always gets everybody going. It's always buzzing and I could see how much it meant to Cammy. 'He was having the time of his life. It was a real moment.' A raft of top name acts have played the festival, which is held at Glasgow Green. 50 Cent headlined Friday's main stage and Saturday night was the turn of Biffy Clyro. Sunday's headliners Snow Patrol are closing the Sunday bill.

Tom Walker: ‘Miracle' I made it through my TRNSMT set

Scottish singer Tom Walker has said it is a 'miracle' he made it through his TRNSMT set. The songwriter had finished his set in Buncrana in the north of Ireland at 12am on Sunday and had to make an overnight journey to Glasgow to play at 1:25pm the same day. Mr Walker, who was born in Kilsyth, rose to prominence in 2018 with the hit single 'Leave a Light On' and is also known for his song Just You and I. He played the mainstage of TRNSMT on Sunday afternoon for the first time in his career. He said it was 'really good' but admitted he had a 'crazy time getting here'. He told the PA news agency: 'We played in Buncrana last night. The set was at 10.30 at night, we finished at 12, got on a bus – not a tour bus, a wee mini-bus – drove five hours to Dublin airport from Belfast, got on the 6am flight and came straight here. 'I've not been to bed so I'm feeling the burn right now if I'm honest. 'I'm tired. My voice just about made it through that set which is a miracle.' He applauded his 'packed' Glasgow audience as 'amazing', especially given the 26C weather. The Scot said it was his best time at TRNSMT yet and his first on the main stage. Reflecting eight years on from his breakthrough hit, Mr Walker said: 'To be honest, I never ever thought I'd be able to pay my rent with music. 'Me and my partner bought a house four years ago together and I'm just so grateful. 'I never ever in my life thought I'd be able to sustain a living from music and I've gone far beyond anything I thought was possible. 'I'm just so grateful to everybody who's listened to my music, who has supported me, come to my gigs and bought my albums – thank you very much.'

Tom Walker pours water over rumours Lewis Capaldi making surprise TRNSMT appearance

The Leave A Light On singer, 33, recently performed a show in Edinburgh alongside pal Lewis Capaldi. Tom Walker has poured cold water on rumours that Lewis Capaldi will make a surprise appearance at TRNSMT. The Leave A Light On singer, 33, recently performed a show in Edinburgh alongside pal Lewis Capaldi - the West Lothian singer's first show in two years – for the suicide prevention charity CALM. The low key gig was the first live appearance by the Someone You Loved singer weeks before his surprise Glastonbury set. ‌ And Tom says that seeing Lewis make his comeback with the charity gig and then at Glastonbury after taking a hiatus from making music two years ago has been inspirational. Capaldi has since reached No1 in the charts with his current single Survive and will play two dates at Glasgow's OVO Hydro in September. ‌ Responding to the rumours that the Someone You Loved singer might be tempted to make an appearance at Glasgow Green yesterday, Walker said: 'I know nothing about that. Nobody tells me anything. It was an inspirational thing to see that Lewis do that wee gig in Edinburgh and then a matter of weeks later, taking on the Pyramid Stage the way he did. 'I think just what he's achieved is incredible. I watched his set at the Pyramid stage with my mates and I was in awe of the comeback that he's just made. It's just really inspirational. I think it's a great thing for people who've got their own demons to battle to see that it is possible and you can get through the other side. 'It was a proper moment and he absolutely smashed it. His voice was amazing. The whole thing was just so good. So I'm so so pleased for him. And what a comeback. Just absolutely amazing. 'Credit to him. It's no joke what he's achieved. It's massive.' ‌ Walker was among the artists taking precautions in the sunshine on Sunday. Walker, who also played Glastonbury in June, said: 'I like to buy Factor 100 and at the same time wear a beanie which is a confusing remedy for the sunshine. But a beanie will keep you cool. That's a well known fact. TRNSMT is a great festival. It's not quite the size of Glastonbury but it is such a good vibe. 'Every time we've played it, it's just been an awesome reaction. It's got a similar kind of feeling to it, in terms of how excited the crowd ought to see the favourite acts. Glastonbury is such an easy gig, because everyone's just really happy to be there and they're having a great time. And I do feel like TRNSMT has a similar vibe to it.' Walker, who opened the King Tut's stage in 2018, played a blistering set on the main stage on Sunday. He said: 'It's always nice playing gigs when everybody's in the sunshine and they're all really happy. That is quite easy. I'll take the sunshine over the rain all day.'
