Tom Walker pours water over rumours Lewis Capaldi making surprise TRNSMT appearance

Tom Walker has poured cold water on rumours that Lewis Capaldi will make a surprise appearance at TRNSMT.
The Leave A Light On singer, 33, recently performed a show in Edinburgh alongside pal Lewis Capaldi - the West Lothian singer's first show in two years – for the suicide prevention charity CALM. The low key gig was the first live appearance by the Someone You Loved singer weeks before his surprise Glastonbury set.

And Tom says that seeing Lewis make his comeback with the charity gig and then at Glastonbury after taking a hiatus from making music two years ago has been inspirational. Capaldi has since reached No1 in the charts with his current single Survive and will play two dates at Glasgow's OVO Hydro in September.

Responding to the rumours that the Someone You Loved singer might be tempted to make an appearance at Glasgow Green yesterday, Walker said: 'I know nothing about that. Nobody tells me anything. It was an inspirational thing to see that Lewis do that wee gig in Edinburgh and then a matter of weeks later, taking on the Pyramid Stage the way he did.
'I think just what he's achieved is incredible. I watched his set at the Pyramid stage with my mates and I was in awe of the comeback that he's just made. It's just really inspirational. I think it's a great thing for people who've got their own demons to battle to see that it is possible and you can get through the other side.
'It was a proper moment and he absolutely smashed it. His voice was amazing. The whole thing was just so good. So I'm so so pleased for him. And what a comeback. Just absolutely amazing.
'Credit to him. It's no joke what he's achieved. It's massive.'

Walker was among the artists taking precautions in the sunshine on Sunday.
Walker, who also played Glastonbury in June, said: 'I like to buy Factor 100 and at the same time wear a beanie which is a confusing remedy for the sunshine. But a beanie will keep you cool. That's a well known fact. TRNSMT is a great festival. It's not quite the size of Glastonbury but it is such a good vibe.
'Every time we've played it, it's just been an awesome reaction. It's got a similar kind of feeling to it, in terms of how excited the crowd ought to see the favourite acts. Glastonbury is such an easy gig, because everyone's just really happy to be there and they're having a great time. And I do feel like TRNSMT has a similar vibe to it.'
Walker, who opened the King Tut's stage in 2018, played a blistering set on the main stage on Sunday.
He said: 'It's always nice playing gigs when everybody's in the sunshine and they're all really happy. That is quite easy. I'll take the sunshine over the rain all day.'

Foo Fighters announce new drummer after bitter split from Taylor Hawkins' replacement – and he's familiar face to fans

The band was formed in 1994 by front man Dave Grohl DRUMMER DRAMA Foo Fighters announce new drummer after bitter split from Taylor Hawkins' replacement – and he's familiar face to fans Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE Foo Fighters have had more members than the Sugababes at this point and now the newest person joining the rock band has been unveiled. The iconic group, which released a new song last month, have found the perfect replacement and it's somebody fans will already recognise – it's none other than Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin. 4 Foo Fighters have revealed their newest drummer Credit: Getty 4 Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin is joining the iconic rock band Credit: Getty 4 Josh Freese was axed from the band in May this year Credit: Getty Ilan, 37, has had tremendous success as Nine Inch Nails' touring drummer since 2009 and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, making him the youngest-ever entrant at the time at 32 years old. Rock fans will also know Ilan as he's been the drummer for Angels & Airwaves since 2005. The exciting development comes after previous drummer Josh Freese was axed from the group back in May after two years. He joined the band in 2023 following the tragic death of Taylor Hawkins, who died suddenly while on tour in Colombia in March 2022. The group had reportedly called Josh at the time to tell him they were 'going in a different direction' with no further explanation given. Josh, 52, shared a picture of his statement revealing his departure from the legendary group, captioning it simply on Instagram: 'Well, there it is.' In the emotional post, he wrote: 'The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer.' No reason was given. :( 'Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band. 'In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I've never been let go from a band, so while I'm not angry - just a bit shocked and disappointed. 'But as most of you know, I've always worked freelance and bounced between bands, so, I'm fine. Foo Fighters make surprise Glastonbury performance as The Churn Ups 'Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters' list.' According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Ilan has joined the Foo Fighters, Josh is returning to Nine Inch Nails. The news has been confirmed with the band sharing a story of Josh and tagging him with a caption that reads: 'Let's f*****g go.' It's still unclear whether Ilan is joining Foo Fighters as a full-time member or as a touring drummer. As die-hard Foo Fighters fans are aware, the band is fronted by Dave Grohl as vocalist and guitarist and also features bassist Nate Mendel, guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett and keyboardist Rami Jaffee. The band was formed in 1994 after Grohl created Foo Fighters to release solo music after Nirvana broke up the same year. During their three decade-long career, the group has released eleven studio albums, four compilation albums, one live album, four extended plays and ten Foo Files EPs.

Massive Attack, Kneecap and more fight back on 'organised censorship' from music industry

Massive Attack, Kneecap, Fontaines D.C. and Brian Eno have formed an alliance to protect artists openly supportive of Palestine from censorship and intimidation from the music industry The British band Massive Attack have formed an alliance for artists who are facing intimidation from within the music industry over their support of Palestine and Gaza. The collective known as Ethical Syndicate Palestine (ESP) is supported by Kneecap, Fontaines D.C. and Brian Eno and cites 'organised censorship' of artists who have spoken out about Israel 's military action. The statement shared by Massive Attack and others on Instagram reads: 'The scenes in Gaza have moved beyond description. We write as artists who've chosen to use our public platforms to speak out against the genocide occurring there and the role of the UK government in facilitating it.' In their statement, ESP alleges accounts of organised intimidation: 'We're aware of the scale of aggressive, vexatious campaigns operated by [UK Lawyers for Israel] UKLFI and of multiple individual incidences of intimidation within the music industry itself, designed solely to censor and silence artists from speaking their hearts and minds.' In a statement to The Mirror, Caroline Turner, Director of UKLFI, wrote: "The claims that we have bullied Massive Attack and operated aggressive vexations campaigns are false." She further describes Massive Attack's June 2025 performance at Lido Festival as "divisive and offensive political theatre." READ MORE: Massive Attack slam 'unethical' Barclays and demand removal of adverts at venue before gig ESP singled out UKLFI in their statement, accusing the association of intimidating artists. In their ESP Instagram posts, Brian Eno, Kneecap and Massive Attack all tagged the activist group Led By Donkeys, which released a film on July 17, 2025 calling for an investigation into UKLFI's charitable wing. Turner says UKLFI responded to Led by Donkeys before they screened their film and contends that their allegations mainly concerned UKLFI Ltd, which is not a charity, rather than UKLFI Charitable Trust. In recent months, UKLFI reported the band Bob Vylan to the police for leading a chant of 'death to the IDF [Israel Defence Forces]' during their Glastonbury set. It also reported the BBC for broadcasting the set and wrote to the Academy of Music Group advising them to cancel Vylan's Radar Festival performance. Mr Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (aka Mo Chara), a member of the music trio Kneecap, was charged with a terrorism offence in May 2025 after being reported to the police by UKLFI. Mr Ó hAnnaidh will appear at court for the next hearing on August 20, 2025. UKLFI wrote to all the UK venues where Kneecap was due to perform over the summer, to warn them of the risks of allowing them to perform. The musicians of ESP say their goal is to protect other artists, particularly those at early stages of their careers. 'Having withstood these campaigns of attempted censorship, we won't standby & allow other artists – particularly those at earlier stages of their careers or in other positions of professional vulnerability – to be threatened into silence or career cancellation. 'In this spirit, we encourage artists who've been placed in this position, or those who now wish to use their platforms to talk about Palestine, but are concerted about industrial or legal repercussions to contact us,' their statement reads. The syndicate also urges artists to make a stand on demands including immediate unfettered access to Gaza for recognised aid agencies, an end to UK arms sales and licences to Israel, and an immediate and permanent ceasefire. Artists including Paloma Faith, Bob Vylan, Aja Monet, Saul Williams, and AURORA all commented expressions of support on Instagram. Paloma Faith wrote: 'I've been shadow banned for some time!!! Keep going everyone, it's going to eventually change! Hang in there'. The Scottish rock band Garbage have also publicly joined the syndicate. Comedian, actor, writer, DJ, and star of Chewin' The Fat, Karen Dunbar is set to embark on a brand-new tour which includes a West Lothian show. ‌ This is a brand-new show for 2025, and it sees Karen sharing stories from her life and talking about her career, with – as you would expect from a stalwart of the Scottish comedy scene – a heap of humour and jokes. ‌ This is Karen's fourth tour with Aberdeen-based promoters, Breakneck Comedy, since 2023, and as Breakneck Comedy founder, Naz Hussain, explains, it's their most ambitious to date. ‌ He said: 'This is the biggest tour we've ever organised, and I'm delighted that we're working with Karen for it. This is a big year for Breakneck Comedy – it's our fifteenth anniversary and to be able to deliver such a huge tour for such a well-loved Scottish act is the icing on the cake. 'Anyone who's been to one of Karen's shows before will know that it's a great night of laughs, jokes, stories, and anecdotes from her career, covering everything from her time on Chewin' The Fat, right through to her latest adventures as a DJ. 'This is a brand-new show for 2025, and the fact that Karen has so many fresh new stories to share is testament to her talent as a comedian, and her amazing career.' ‌ Karen began her career as a DJ and karaoke host before she attended The Comedy Unit's open auditions in 1997 where she was cast in the BBC Scotland comedy sketch show Chewin' the Fat. Karen played a host of instantly recognisable characters including the Lonely Shopkeeper and the Depressed Taxi Caller. She starred in The Karen Dunbar Show, which received two Golden Rose nominations for Best Comedy Show and Karen herself two personal nominations for Best Comedy Performance. ‌ As a comedy actress, she has also tackled serious roles, most including a performance in the poetic monologue A Drunk Woman Looks at the Thistle adapted by Denise Mina from Hugh MacDiarmid's poem of the same name. In 2014, she was lead compère at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony held in Glasgow alongside John Barrowman and Des Clarke. Karen sang and performed a showcase of Scottish culture, inventions and places during the broadcast, which reached a global audience of 1.5 billion people. Breakneck Comedy is renowned for bringing top comedians and performers to towns and venues that might not be on the usual tour schedule. ‌ 'I love bringing big names to towns that some promoters might overlook,' said Naz. 'It's really exciting to be able to put on shows all over Scotland and make it easier for people to be able to enjoy a great night of comedy and entertainment without them having to worry about catching a train home from the city.' Karen will be playing Livingston's Howden Park Centre on Saturday, September 27, at 6pm.
