Mamelodi Sundowns exits linked with Chiefs and Pirates
Mamelodi Sundowns have released seven players. A few of them are linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Mamelodi Sundowns have released SEVEN players. Meanwhile, both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are linked with a couple of The Brazilians who have recently left Chloorkop. Chiefs and Pirates are both interested in signing Lebohang Maboe. 'Other clubs reportedly vying for Maboe's signature include Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Sekhukhune United. Babina Noko had previously expressed interest in the midfielder before his loan move to SuperSport. For Amakhosi, the interest comes amidst significant squad changes, with captain Yusuf Maart's move to Austria reportedly imminent and Edson Castillo already released,' FarPost reported. So, to date, this is the only Sundowns players that both Amakhosi and the Bucs are keen to sign. Meaning, Chiefs and Pirates are in a bidding war with each other for the Bafana Bafana attacker. Pirates secured Sipho Mbule's signature before Sundowns announced his departure. So, we already knew he was leaving The Brazilians. Meanwhile, outbound Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro is currently training with Chiefs. He is one of the new faces who jetted off with Amakhosi to Europe for their pre-season tour of the Netherlands. The other is speedster, Asanele Velebayi from Cape Town Spurs. Therefore, Chiefs could also secure a Sundown's player. Additionally, they can also do it before Sundowns announce his exit. Mamelodi Sundowns axe five more stars as Pirates get midfielder
Mamelodi Sundowns have ramped up their squad overhaul by confirming the exits of five additional players, following the departures of Rivaldo Coetzee and Lebohang Maboe. As the Tshwane giants streamline their squad ahead of the new season, the club has parted ways with Sanele Tshabalala, Thabang Sibanyoni, Sifiso Ngobeni, Lucas Suarez, and Sipho Mbule. Sipho Mbule has already secured a fresh start with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, long before Sundowns made their official announcement. The midfielder's move to Mayfair marks a new chapter after a somewhat turbulent stint at Chloorkop. Thabang Sibanyoni and Sifiso Ngobeni, who spent last season out on loan, will not be returning to Sundowns. The club opted not to reintegrate them into the squad, as it continues to offload players who no longer fit its long-term vision. Ngobeni has attracted interest from Richards Bay FC, who are on the hunt for a left-back following Nkosikhona Ndaba's move to Orlando Pirates. Aged 27, Ngobeni found game time hard to come by at AmaZulu but could see more minutes at Richards Bay, where he's being closely monitored. Lucas Suarez, who joined on loan in January, failed to establish himself in the heart of Sundowns' defence. Despite having an option to buy, the club decided not to make the deal permanent. Suarez's brief spell at the club ends without him making a significant impression. Lebohang Maboe's departure has sparked a scramble for his signature. Durban City, Kaizer Chiefs, Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates are all reportedly vying for the 30-year-old's services. Maboe impressed during his loan at SuperSport United, playing a crucial role in helping the club avoid relegation. However, with SuperSport selling their PSL status, he won't be staying. 'Durban City, coached by Gavin Hunt, could offer a sentimental return,' an insider noted. Chiefs, on the other hand, are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Yusuf Maart. Maboe leaves Sundowns as one of the most decorated players of his era, having amassed 183 appearances, 20 goals, 23 assists, and nine trophies during his time at the club. We wish you nothing but success as you enter your next chapter.' Similarly, Rivaldo Coetzee's career at Sundowns was blighted by injury, which severely limited his playing time. The talented defender joined the club from Ajax Cape Town in 2017, amassing a remarkable 14 trophies during his stay. However, a series of setbacks prevented him from making a notable impact in recent campaigns, leading to his release as Sundowns restructure their squad. While the club successfully defended their PSL title, their aspirations for the Nedbank Cup fell short when they were eliminated by Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals. Additionally, their quest for continental glory ended at the hands of Pyramids FC of Egypt, who went on to claim their first CAF Champions League crown. As the dust settles on these departures, many eyes will be on Sundowns as they embark on a new season filled with promise and potential, bolstered by a fresh influx of talent as they strive to continue their reign at the summit of South African football. Sundowns are set to begin their pre-season preparations on 21 July. This year, the club is breaking from tradition by remaining closer to home, opting for a domestic training camp in Rustenburg rather than travelling abroad. By convening in Rustenburg, Sundowns aim to create a focused environment conducive to training and development. The players will have the opportunity to work closely with the coaching team, fine-tuning tactics and strategies designed to bolster their on-field performances.
