Brentford have taken the rare step of advertising for a new assistant first team coach on LinkedIn, as the Premier League club looks to add to Thomas Frank 's staff. Fans were taken by surprise to see an advert for such a high-profile role posted by a top flight club on the job-hunting platform. 'The successful candidate will be an integral part of the first team coaching staff and have the specific role of coaching the first team and high potential B team players to develop those players as individuals, both on and off pitch,' Brentford's advert stated. 'The role will be a key part of assisting with the Club's ambition of creating and maintaining an environment of continual improvement and development.' Brentford said the candidate must either have a UEFA Pro Licence or a UEFA A licence, with a view to achieving Pro Licence status. Candidates will be required to have 'strong coaching skills with the ability to deliver coaching sessions which develop multiple facets of player performance simultaneously', along with being able to 'build strong personal relationships and trust with the players and colleagues.' Brentford took the unusual step of advertising the high-profile position on LinkedIn The Bees stated that the successful candidate's key relationships would include their head coach, Thomas Frank, and first team coaching staff. They would also work with director of football Phil Giles, technical director Lee Dykes, B team coaching staff and their performance, medical, player welfare and loans departments. Their responsibilities will include providing additional training sessions for small groups and individual players, as well as driving a 'culture of continuous improvement by identifying key development areas of the players'. They will also work with the technical director to 'identify the high-potential young players at the Club, and help to integrate them into first team training', as well as attending B-team and Under-21 matches and liaise with staff 'to ensure that high potential players are utilised in matches appropriately. How do Brentford conduct such impressive recruitment?

Brentford technical director Lee Dykes spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast about the Bees' recruitment strategy: "We have a data coverage of over 85,000 players - that is the first stage. You filter through in stages and the number is coming down. At the end of the process, you eventually arrive at between 60 and 70 players that are the best five or six in each of the positions."Once we have got the shortlist in place, we can start to do some serious due diligence on the particular names."The Premier League is a place where a lot of young players want to come and play. The work we've done with players like David Raya, Bryan Mbeumo - those stories carry themselves around the industry."Dykes says he is open to the use of AI in future recruitment, adding: "It's definitely in the next phase - we are exploring that."I think AI will enhance the data search - we just don't know how yet."This week 5 Live Breakfast are behind the scenes with Brentford all week, so keep checking back on this Brentford page for further interviews.
