The FIBA U20 EuroBasket Championship in Heraklion, Greece, concluded on Sunday, and with it a great run by Nebraska's incoming freshman Leo Curtis. He put together one final strong performance for his home country of Iceland in their 63-56 loss to Germany. Curtis scored 12 points, shooting 6-of-16 from the floor, and secured eight rebounds. He scored all 12 points in the paint, half of them coming in the fourth. Though Iceland entered the final quarter up 42-38, Germany outscored them 25-14 in the fourth to take the win. With the loss, Iceland concluded the tournament with a 2-5 record. Through seven games, Curtis led Iceland in points per game (14.6), rebounds per game (8.1), and blocks per game (2.7). Across all 16 teams, he led the tournament in blocks per game and finished 11th in points per game and third in rebounds per game. Nebraska freshman Leo Curtis continued his run with Iceland in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Tournament on Thursday. In the consolation round, Iceland fell to Romania 72-57 with Curtis scoring nine points, six rebounds, and three assists. Despite a strong first half, Iceland collapsed from a 39-35 lead, only scoring 18 points in the second half. Curtis shot 3-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. Iceland fell to the consolation round after facing Italy in the Round of 16 on Wednesday. Curtis scored 11 points in the outing and hauled in seven rebounds. However, Iceland fell to Italy in a lopsided 101-58 defeat. He was the only player on Iceland to reach double digits in scoring. Curtis currently averages 13.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game with two rounds of competition left. His play throughout the week helped him be listed as one of the top 10 standouts during the group phase of competition. Husker freshman Leo Curtis capped off the Group D series play on Monday with his best game yet in the U20 FIBA EuroBasket Tournament. He scored a team-high 20 points and hauled in a team-high 11 rebounds to help Iceland to a 76-74 win over Slovenia. Curtis eclipsed his previous best game by three points and two rebounds. He shot 6-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the win. He also commanded the boards, securing a game-high 11 rebounds to earn his first double-double of the tournament. Curtis scored 15 points in the first half, helping Iceland control the game over Slovenia early. Though Slovenia clawed its way back in the fourth, erasing a 14-point deficit, Iceland held off the comeback to earn the win. Curtis also scored 11 points in the team's loss to France on Sunday and hauled in eight rebounds. He finishes the Group D series with 48 points and 28 rebounds across the three games; both lead the team. Curtis also leads the team in steals (4) and blocks (8). Nebraska freshman Leo Curtis is representing his home country of Iceland in the FIBA EuroBasket Tournament for the third straight year. He and Iceland started the U20 Tournament in Heraklion, Greece, against Serbia on Saturday in Group D. The team lost 90-76, and Curtis scored 17 points in nearly 33 minutes of play. He shot 7-of-12 from the floor, landing 4-of-6 from two-point range and hitting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Curtis also co-led the team in rebounds with nine and five assists. He led Iceland in steals, snatching three on the day. Curtis started quietly in the first half, going 2-for-6 from the floor. He then finished 3-for-3 in the third quarter, tallying seven points through two shots near the basket and one from three-point range. The 7-foot-1, 220-pound forward hit both of his shots from beyond the arc in the fourth.
