Etienne Youte transfer fee plunges as Celtic face £6m 'hurry' with 'best defender' exit escalating centre back search
The recruitment drive at Celtic Park looks to be ramping up with the season fast approaching Le Havre president Jean-Michel Roussier admits their asking price for centre-back Etienne Youte could drop amid reported interest from Celtic. Reports in France suggest that the Scottish Premiership champions have joined Anderlecht and Besiktas in the race to land the 23-year-old. Youte only has a year remaining on his currently contract and the Ligue 1 outfit would reportedly accept a €5million (£4.3million) fee this summer. But Roussier admits that the cash-strapped club could be forced into a bargain sale of the centre-back this summer. Speaking to Paris Normadie, the club supremo was asked about the risk of allowing player's deals to run out. He said: "We're used to it. We have to sell a lower cost, with free agents something we cannot risk. We are a company that is losing money." Red Star Belgrade defender Veljko Milosavljevic is also said to be on the agenda amid claims that the club are ready to drop their asking price. It was claimed earlier this summer that Celtic representatives "offered" £5.1million for the 17-year-old, which was rejected. However, a £6million offer would reportedly tempt the Serbian side to cash-in on the rising star. Max Sport report that Everton have made contact and are now stepping up their interest - which could leave Celtic in a "hurry" to get the deal over the line and see off the Premier League side in a bidding war. Maik Nawrocki is among the fringe men that have been allowed to leave the club this summer - but Frank McAvennie reckons the club have made a mistake in allowing the Polish star join Hannover 96. But speaking on his 'Let Me Be Frank' podcast, McAvennie said: 'There are a couple of players who went out. 'I feel sorry for Nawrocki. He has gone out, and I thought, 'that boy was decent.' I really did. I thought he was a good player. 'I hope we don't rue that. He never let the team down. He came in, five or six games, and he was outstanding. He was the best defender we had.' Football legend Frank McAvennie gets behind women's football team in shirt deal
The former St Mirren, Celtic, West Ham and Scotland striker's podcast Let Me Be Frank has backed Hamilton Academical WFC with a season long shirt deal. Scottish football legend Frank McAvennie has turned his attention to the ladies once more, this time by sponsoring a women's football team. The former St Mirren, Celtic, West Ham and Scotland striker's podcast Let Me Be Frank has backed Hamilton Academical WFC with a season long shirt deal. Macca, who hosts the Let Me Be Frank podcast alongside journalist pal Simon Houston, said: 'Anything I can do to help the ladies. 'I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to support the Accies Women's team like this. "It's no secret that in the past I wasn't the biggest fan of women's football and didn't watch a lot of it, but fair's fair. I have become a convert and I have been massively impressed with some of the games I have watched.' The Accies Women's team are set to play in the top flight next season alongside other SWPL1 clubs after becoming SWPL2 Champions for 2024/25. Frank, 65, said: 'Hamilton did incredibly well last season and now they are back in the top flight and I'm thrilled that our logo will be on their shorts as they go for more glory. 'I knew some of the people who work for charities at Hamilton and have known the men's side for years. I've been going to see them for years. 'It gives the podcast a wee lift as well.' Frank, who was at New Douglas Park this week to meet some of the players and hand over a cheque for £1,000, made a name for himself as a top scorer in both the Scottish top flight and in England. His reputation for scoring stretched to the ladies, prompting comedian and TV producer to lampoon Frank in the television series Only An Excuse with the catchphrase, 'Where's ra burds?' Frank said: 'A lot of my mates are poking fun telling me that I was very much a fan of the ladies back in the day, so I'm expecting a bit of a ribbing. But I can take it. Some of Phil's sketches have been hilarious. It was all good fun. "But in all seriousness, I'm delighted at the massive increase in profile that the women's game has enjoyed, not just in Scotland but all over the world. "I've been watching a lot of the Euros which are on at the moment and it's just a pity the Scottish team didn't make it to Switzerland. Let's hope they can be back on the big stage soon.' Frank, who enjoyed top flight football in the 1980s and 1990s, added: 'It would be great to see some of the Hamilton team showcasing their talents on the world stage. "We will give our podcast followers regular updates on their scores as the new season progresses." Frank has also promised to cheer the Accies women's team from the stands when they play upcoming matches against Partick Thistle and Celtic. He said: 'Women's football has taken off and it has got to a stage where women's games are filling stadiums. 'You have got to be happy with the way they have got the leagues together and the clubs have bought into it. There are some decent players.' Hamilton Academical WFC manager Robert Watson added: "This is a magnificent boost for the team. "We are absolutely delighted to have the Let Me Be Frank podcast sponsoring our shorts for the upcoming season. "This will be one of the biggest seasons in the team's history after returning to the top flight of Scottish women's football. "We couldn't do what we do without the support of people like Frank. We are not full-time so every penny we receive is really important and extremely helpful." The Let Me Be Frank podcast regularly boasts top guests. Past shows have included chats with everybody from Rod Stewart to Ray Winstone. Frank said: 'The podcast is about letting people talk. Every time we have someone in we have a story that we haven't heard. It's great because normally I would ask a question then answer it, but Simon has taught me to keep quiet and let people speak for themselves and it has been a joy to talk to everybody from Scott Brown about his time at Celtic to Rod because you can't get much bigger than that.'

Livid Celtic hero goes in two-footed on Nicolas Kuhn as pundit paves the way for imminent Lennon Miller bid
The German will sign for Como imminently in a £17.2million deal but the German has been told he cost himself something greater Fuming Frank McAvennie claims departing Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn has his head turned back in January and denied himself the chance to sweep the boards in Scottish football. The German will sign for Como imminently in a £17.2million deal but the unfiltered Parkhead legend reckons the wide man is leaving on a sour note. Kuhn endured a mixed second half of the season after thrilling punters with over goal contributions and signature displays against compatriots RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich in the Champions League. And McAvennie reckons the fee is good business for a player he claims knew he was for the off long before Cesc Fabregas' side launched their official bid. 'Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank podcast, McAvennie said: "Listen, he has been wonderful. Come January, he was winning every trophy. Player of the Year. He would have won everything. Players' Player of the Year. Supporters player of the Year. He would have won everything. 'After January, somebody has tapped him up. His agents tell him how good he is and that he is better than Celtic. 'Better than Celtic, and you are going to Como? Tell me that it isn't about money. It's very good (deal for Celtic), but I don't think it's what Brendan (Rodgers) wants.' Meanwhile, Gordon Dalziel reckons the Lennon Miller sweepstakes are about to begin and he reckons Celtic are right in the mix to land their long-term target. The Fir Park skipper's dad Lee admitted his son harbours ambitions to star in Europe, however, Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the 18-year-old Scotland international and would love to bring him to Glasgow's east end. And Well fan Dalziel senses Miller's future will be resolved imminently. Speaking on Superscorebaord, he said: "If I were Motherwell, I would be wanting more than that (£4.5 million). But, at the end of the day, it just depends on what Celtic were prepared to offer, and what Motherwell were prepared to accept. 'Is Lennon Miller looking to stay in Scottish football? That's a big question as well – he may just have his eyes open with that. 'Or, he just looks at Celtic and thinks, 'what a fantastic challenge it is to go and work under a coach with the ability of Brendan Rodgers.' And, of course, being at a club the size of Celtic. I am sure Celtic will probably have a lot of targets lined up, and I wouldn't be surprised if you would see this moving very, very shortly. 'I think they need a couple of, for me, to please the Celtic fans. A couple of big names just to take it forward and give them that excitement.' Brendan Rodgers told Celtic don't need another striker as goal machine is already in the building
The Hoops are in the market for more firepower but Frank McAvennie is adamant they already have a ready-made goal machine Celtic might be eyeing a new striker to fill Kyogo's boots. But Frank McAvennie insists they've already got their man. Centenary legend Macca has challenged £9million frontman Adam Idah to grab the jersey and make it his own this season. The Republic of Ireland powerhouse netted 20 goals in his first full campaign at Parkhead, but has yet to cement a regular starting slot. Gaffer Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of the fact that he wants to add more firepower this summer. But McAvennie has urged Rodgers to give ex-Norwich City star Idah the chance to show he can be the main man. He told Record Sport: "I'm looking for Adam to step up this year. "He didn't have a pre-season last year. I know by playing the game that you are always on the back foot if you don't have a pre-season. "He's young, he's learning and I think he's got the capabilities to be a top, top striker. I really do. He's got everything in his locker. He's just got to use it. "I'd like to see him holding the ball a bit more. When you're playing in European ties, you've got to hold and fight for the ball. "He'll learn that, that's what he's got to do. If I were playing in his team, he'd have learnt a long time ago because I'd have been screaming at him. "Nobody talks to each other now. Big Roy Aitken was my captain, he'd have cupped me by the throat if the ball kept bouncing off me. "That's the way to learn. Someone like Callum McGregor's got to keep talking to him. "But I really do think he's going to nail down and become the number one striker. "We've just got to mould him into that number one slot." Kyogo's shock January exit to Rennes looked like it had opened the door for Idah. But it was Daizen Maeda who stole the show, sweeping the board at the end-of-season awards as Idah largely watched on from the sidelines. And Macca - who is regularly joined by top names on his weekly Let Me Be Frank podcast - wants to see the Irishman rise to the challenge and spearhead Celtic's bid for five-in-a-row. He said: "You think of how many games they played Daizen through the middle. "He did well, his movement was great. But I'd like to see Adam stand up and say, 'This number nine jersey is mine.' "You don't get it for coming on and scoring goals. You get it by fighting and wanting to keep that jersey and not wanting to be dropped. "I'd like to see him do it. I'm all for him. Daizen can take the number nine jersey as well if he gets injured. "They've got a couple of youngsters there as well. Do we need a striker? I'm not sure we need to buy one. I think we've got enough in our dressing room. "We lost young boys like Daniel Cummings and Rocco Vata. Rudi's boy is now an Irish international, it's just incredible. "I don't think we need to bring a striker in, we've got to build on what we've got. "I think Brendan's shown a lot of faith in Adam. He knows the supporters know he can do more. "Everyone to a man knows he's a good player, but I just think he's got to do a bit more and I think he'll nail that position down this year." Celtic shelled out the second most expensive fee in the club's history to lure Idah from Carrow Road last summer - before splashing a whopping £11m on record signing Arne Engels on deadline day. Asked if Idah's price tag might have weighed heavily, McAvennie said: "Of course it has. It's the same with Arne Engels. He was the best thing since sliced bread in the first six games. "Then all of a sudden, people start getting used to him. But he's only a young boy as well. You can see he's got quality, he's just got to do it. "Unfortunately, at Celtic, you don't have the chance to have one week on, one week off. There are no other clubs in the world like Celtic and Rangers." The champions have added teenage striker Callum Osmand from Fulham, and McAvennie believes the 19-year-old will push Idah all the way during pre-season. Close pal and Cottagers icon Tony Gale has already offered a glowing report. He added: "Tony phoned me when he was signing and said to me, 'What a player you're getting'. "He was at Fulham for eight or nine years and still goes there all the time. He splits his time between West Ham and Fulham and he said, 'You've got a bargain'. "So I'm looking forward to seeing the boy. Again, he's a striker. Why would you want to bring someone else in when you've got him on the books, as well as young Johnny Kenny? "I think we've got enough. The boy Osmand will push Adam Idah, because if you're coming up from Fulham, you'll be wanting to be number one. "So I think it's going to be a good fight between those two." - Listen to Frank McAvennie and co-host Simon Houston every week on the official Let Me Be Frank podcast.
