Backlash 2025: Did WWE subtly confirm the end of Penta's singles push?
WWE Backlash 2025 proved to be a memorable affair as all five matches on the card delivered the goods. The night saw Dominik Mysterio beat Penta to retain the Intercontinental title. The match, however, did not end on a clean note as El Grande Americano attacked the Mexican star and gave 'Dom' an opportunity to nail him with a Frog Splash for the win. With this finish, the WWE has seemingly indicated that Penta's push as a singles performer is over. WWE Backlash 2025: Penta suffered his second singles loss in a matter of weeks El Grande Americano, the self-proclaimed 'greatest luchador in the world', has been a thorn in the side of masked wrestlers ever since he burst on to the scene a few months ago. He made life difficult for the LWO and even beat Rey Fenix, Penta's brother, at WrestleMania 41. Fenix replaced Rey Mysterio in the match after the Hall of Famer picked an injury hours before the show. With his interference in Penta's match tonight, the WWE may set the stage for 'The Man With Zero Fear' to reform the Lucha Brothers team with Rey Fenix. The two previously teamed together in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), emerging as a force to reckon with. If they reunite in WWE, it may add a new dimension to the company's tag team division that already includes the likes of DIY and The Street Profits. Moreover, it could also help Rey get over with the WWE Universe. Penta's younger brother has had a handful of singles matches so far, but netizens feel that the crowd reaction is not up to the mark. Penta in WWE: How has the journey been so far? Penta has given a good account of himself during his brief time on the roster. Vince Russo, a veteran writer, had highlighted this in an interaction with Indiatimes. 'I don't like the way they have been booking Penta AT ALL. Way too much 50/50 booking. He should be more dominant, in my opinion,' he had told the website. Penta was the workhorse of the Royal Rumble 2025 as he lasted nearly 40 minutes in the titular match before being eliminated by Finn Balor. He then lost a 'Triple Threat' match against Ludwig Kaiser and Pete Dunne. The high flier was also pinned by Balor in a tag match where he teamed up with Bron Breakker to lock horns with the Irish star and Dominik Mysterio. Penta lost a fatal-4-way match for The Badass' Intercontinental title at 'Mania 41 when Dominik pinned 'The Prince' for the win. He suffered his first singles loss via pinfall when he lost to 'Daddy Dom' on the Raw after WrestleMania 41. He likes to be centred among controversy by making controversial remarks. Recently, Mysterio passed a remark on the Lucha brothers and called Penta and Rey Fenix are 'ugly.' The member of the Judgment Day faction was last seen at WrestleMania 41 alongside Finn Balor, Bron Breakker, and Penta in a fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship , which he won by betraying his faction's stablemate, Finn Balor. After which, he subsequently became the new Intercontinental Champion of WWE. Mysterio has again made headlines after commenting on the looks of the Lucha Brothers. Both the Lucha brothers have been trying to reunite on WWE, however, it seems that their plan has come true now.
