Backlash 2025: Did WWE subtly confirm the end of Penta's singles push?

Time of India11-05-2025

WWE Backlash 2025 proved to be a memorable affair as all five matches on the card delivered the goods. The night saw Dominik Mysterio beat Penta to retain the Intercontinental title. The match, however, did not end on a clean note as El Grande Americano attacked the Mexican star and gave 'Dom' an opportunity to nail him with a Frog Splash for the win. With this finish, the WWE has seemingly indicated that Penta's push as a singles performer is over.
WWE Backlash 2025: Penta suffered his second singles loss in a matter of weeks
El Grande Americano, the self-proclaimed 'greatest luchador in the world', has been a thorn in the side of masked wrestlers ever since he burst on to the scene a few months ago. He made life difficult for the LWO and even beat Rey Fenix, Penta's brother, at WrestleMania 41. Fenix replaced Rey Mysterio in the match after the Hall of Famer picked an injury hours before the show.
With his interference in Penta's match tonight, the WWE may set the stage for 'The Man With Zero Fear' to reform the Lucha Brothers team with Rey Fenix. The two previously teamed together in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), emerging as a force to reckon with. If they reunite in WWE, it may add a new dimension to the company's tag team division that already includes the likes of DIY and The Street Profits.
Moreover, it could also help Rey get over with the WWE Universe. Penta's younger brother has had a handful of singles matches so far, but netizens feel that the crowd reaction is not up to the mark.

Thinking the same thing no pop for Andrade and Rey Fenix is insane
Going down this route will, however, mark the end of Penta's singles push.
Penta in WWE: How has the journey been so far?
Penta has given a good account of himself during his brief time on the roster. He has taken on the likes of Bron Breakker, Ludwig Kaiser, and Finn Balor. However, his booking has often left a lot to be desired. Vince Russo, a veteran writer, had highlighted this in an interaction with Indiatimes.
'I don't like the way they have been booking Penta AT ALL. Way too much 50/50 booking. He should be more dominant, in my opinion,' he had told the website.
Penta was the workhorse of the Royal Rumble 2025 as he lasted nearly 40 minutes in the titular match before being eliminated by Finn Balor. He then lost a 'Triple Threat' match against Ludwig Kaiser and Pete Dunne. The high flier was also pinned by Balor in a tag match where he teamed up with Bron Breakker to lock horns with the Irish star and Dominik Mysterio. Penta lost a fatal-4-way match for The Badass' Intercontinental title at 'Mania 41 when Dominik pinned 'The Prince' for the win. He suffered his first singles loss via pinfall when he lost to 'Daddy Dom' on the Raw after WrestleMania 41.
One is likely to get a better idea of what the future holds for Penta on this week's episode of Raw.

Has Justice Been Served in Roxanne Perez's Online Harassment Case?

Image via WWE Rising WWE talent Roxanne Perez recently found herself in the crosshairs of a serious online harassment case, raising urgent concerns about digital safety in the world of professional wrestling. The 23-year-old star, currently part of the 'Monday Night RAW' roster, was doxxed on X (formerly Twitter) by an anonymous account that not only posted what appeared to be her home address, but also hinted at a potential threat on June 6. The situation quickly triggered alarm across the WWE community. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce took to social media to confirm that the issue had been reported to authorities. 'It has been reported. If you know what I'm talking about, then you know what I'm talking about,' he said, stopping short of directly naming Perez but leaving little room for doubt. X platform takes action Following widespread concern and fan reports, the perpetrator's account was eventually suspended by X. Wrestling insider page 'EliteRockerz 𝕏' confirmed the action with a screenshot, showing the account had been withheld. While this response was swift, many fans are now asking a pressing question: has justice truly been served? Suspending a social media account may provide short-term relief, but the incident highlights a broader issue of online stalking and lack of accountability on digital platforms. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Zumbido e perda de audição? 3 dream WWE matches for Sting that never happened — But should have!

Image via WWE Sting had a short tenure in WWE , wrestling only a handful of matches. Sting is one of the most renowned legends in the professional wrestling world. The man who carried WCW on his back for years was dubbed 'The Franchise' of the promotion. After WCW closed down in 2001, Sting chose to explore the outside wrestling scene and not join the giant WWE. However, after thirteen years, The Icon finally made his shocking debut in WWE at the 2014 Survivor Series event. Upon his debut, Sting was used as a part-time attraction and wrestled a few matches against stars like Triple H and Seth Rollins. Despite putting up great performances against them, here are the three WWE matches he should be a part of: 3. Bray Wyatt At the time, Sting was a part of WWE; Bray Wyatt was captivating the WWE Universe with his dark antics, mysterious personality, and vision to take the whole world in his hands. In Sting's WrestleMania debut, Wyatt himself wrestled a legend like The Undertaker , which meant that he was poised for great success. WWE should have explored a feud between Sting and Bray Wyatt after that, which would have been an exciting program to witness between the two dark forces. 2. John Cena Much like Sting, John Cena had been the Franchise Player in WWE. He was in the prime of his career during Sting's tenure in the Sports Entertainment juggernaut. Moreover, Cena and Sting even teamed up for a match on Monday Night RAW, which was a memorable sight to witness. However, WWE should have had a battle between the franchises of WCW and WWE inside the squared circle, and it would have been a blockbuster showdown. 1. The Undertaker The one dream match for Sting that the fans had been longing for years was his battle against the equally respected legend and character, The Undertaker. Both men were locked room leaders for WWE and WCW during the heights of the Monday Night Wars. While both men did wrestle during the early beginnings of their careers, they did not share the ring in their prime. In fact, during Sting's time in WWE, The Undertaker was still an active performer. Yet, WWE still decided not to book this match. While it looked like it could happen at WrestleMania 31, WWE ultimately chose to go with Triple H as Sting's opponent instead of The Phenom.
