Sunderland will look to intensify efforts for Bayer Leverkusen's Granit Xhaka
reports that Sunderland are now expected to intensify their efforts for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka. A decision is expected this week on the future of the Swiss midfielder, as despite it being previously reported that Sunderland may not be able to agree a deal with die Werkself, the newly promoted Premier League side has not given up. Leverkusen still demand €20m, but Sunderland are said to be open to paying the fee. Kölner-Stadt Anzeiger reports that die Werkself are open to a fee just below €20m. If Leverkusen receives this fee, Xhaka will be allowed to leave. Die Werkself head coach Erik ten Hag has continued to campaign to keep Xhaka at the club as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Tah have already left the BayArena this summer, while Lukas Hradecky could also follow out the door, this would leave Leverkusen with no recognised leader, as the axis of their title win and second place last season have departed. AS Monaco reaches agreement with Bayer Leverkusen captain Lukas Hradecky over a move
reports that AS Monaco have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky. The Principality has agreed personal terms with the Leverkusen captain and is now in negotiations with die Werkself over a transfer this summer. Hradecky's current contract at the BayArena expires next summer, meaning this summer would be the final time that Leverkusen could earn some sort of fee for the 35-year-old. Earlier this week, Hradecky revealed that he was thinking about leaving: 'I'm definitely thinking about it. That's no secret. But at the same time, it has to be something very concrete and very interesting for me to consider leaving this club after so many wonderful and successful years.' Leverkusen were already well prepared, as earlier this summer, they brought in Mark Flekken, who will be the number one this season. However, the departure of Matej Kovar will bring into question die Werkelf's number two position. A move away from the 35-year-old is surprising, as it was previously suggested that he could take up a different role at Leverkusen when he did choose to retire. While on top of this, the club have already lost Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Granit Xhaka, who has stated that he wants to leave. GGFN | Jack Meenan

Lukas Hradecky to fight for Bayer Leverkusen place after Mark Flekken's arrival
Bayer Leverkusen have been active in the transfer window with the arrival of Brentford's Mark Flekken for €10m their latest capture. The Dutchman will be competing with Lukas Hradecky to become Erik ten Hag's number one, but the latter has no intention of giving up his spot. 'I won't give away my place,' Hradecky told Finnish outlet Iltalehti. 'Let's see if there's a hybrid model in terms of playing.' Last season, the 35-year-old played 29 out of 34 Bundesliga games under Xabi Alonso, with Matej Kovar playing the other five. Kovar – who will likely leave Leverkusen – played more Champions League and German Cup games last season. Advertisement Before making a decision on his future, Hradecky will speak to Ten Hag to discover what his playing prospects will be like. 'I have a contract with Leverkusen, but I can't promise anything,' added the Finn. 'I will definitely consider it if a one-off offer comes from somewhere I can play safely.' Hradecky has been a loyal servant to Leverkusen following his free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018, playing 286 games across all competitions and becoming a Bundesliga and German Cup winner with die Werkself, but faces stiff competition from Flekken. Is Mark Flekken an upgrade? The former Freiburg goalkeeper comes with a wealth of experience having played 80 games in the Bundesliga, as well as seven games in the Europa League. He would be seen as an upgrade to Lukas Hradecky (35, Contract until 2026) and Matej Kovar (25, Contract until 2027), both of whom shared the No. 1 shirt last season. GGFN | Daniel Pinder
