'I want to be someone who has a voice,' says actor Neha Dhupia in Bengaluru

You may know her from 2000s comedies like Chup Chupke or Singh is Kinng, from her time as a model representing India in the Miss Universe pageant, or perhaps more recently, playing Vidya Balan's boss in 2017 hit Tumhari Sulu or an unabashedly sexy librarian in Lust Stories. Add to that her much-loved stints as a gang leader on several seasons of Roadies and her podcast-cum-YouTube show No Filter Neha, it's no stretch to call Neha Dhupia a beloved household name. Visiting the city as the showstopper for Max Kids Festival, she reflected on this gradual shift in focus from model-actor to reality TV star and popular host, saying, 'It's not a transition; in 2025, any number of mediums that you can explore – whether it's a podcast, television, fiction or non-fiction, whether it's playing characters in films – you should. After being in the business for over two decades now, I have to put myself in a box and at the same time, be out of the box. I want to be someone who has a voice and exercises it when necessary.' This confident and outspoken demeanour is evident than ever in Dhupia's return to Roadies for its Roadies Double Cross season after three years. 'My biggest victory has been coming back to the show and get ting the amount of love that I makes me want to keep coming back,' she says, adding, 'I'm always fighting for what I want to try and at no point do I want to hurt or harm anybody. The intention is always to encourage people.'

Amid Deepika Padukone, Sandeep Reddy Vanga row, Radhika Apte admits industry is not conducive to new mom needs: ‘It's really difficult...'

The news of Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit started a discourse in the industry after it was claimed that her 'unprofessional demands' led to her ouster. After Aja Devgn came to the actress' support, Radhika Apte, who is also a new mother, claimed that the industry is not conducive to the needs of a new mother. The Lust Stories actress announced her pregnancy last year as she flaunted her baby bump on the red carpet of the BAFTA Awards. She was there as her British film, Sister Midnight, was nominated in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category. She welcomed a baby girl in December 2024 with her husband, Benedict Taylor. In a recent interview with the Indian Express' SCREEN, Apte was asked if the film industry is encouraging towards the needs of new mothers. In response to this, the actress shared her concern, expressing, 'I don't think they are. I don't know how I'm going to navigate that going ahead.' She further explained her reason, noting that an actor rarely gets the time to see their child, considering long shoot hours. 'It's really difficult to work in our film industry, given the number of hours and how we film generally, and the time for which we don't get to see the child. So I guess I'll just have to figure it out now,' she further added. Notably, this comes days after a Bollywood Hungama report claimed that Deepika Padukone was ousted from Sandeep Reddy Vanga 's Spirit after she demanded changes in her contract through her agency. It was reported that the actress refused to shoot for more than 6 hours a day. The report also claimed that the actress demanded extra pay for every single day if the shoot extended beyond 100 days. Ajay Devgn, on the other hand, during the trailer launch of Maa, also reacted to the row and assured that most of the "honest filmmakers" don't have any problem with these things. He also claimed that most people have started working 8-9-hour shifts. After getting a release in the UK and the US later in 2024, Sister Midnight has finally been released in India. It is currently running in the theaters.

With the perfect mix of modern and traditional design, the dining place creates an inviting atmosphere. The wooden elements balance the area perfectly and the marbled floors complement the chairs and their colour palette. The plant in the backdrop adds a touch of nature. The immaculate kitchen is designed with beautiful cabinets, shelves, an in-built modern stove, and minimal appliances. Contributing to a fresh and contemporary feel were small plants behind a glass pane, offering convenient options to pick some herbs during cooking. With its contemporary feel and luxury aesthetics, Vijay's home feels like a space out of a design catalogue. It is the actor's personal touches that give the place a homely look. ‘Even worse than TV': Anurag Kashyap slams OTT platforms, claims they're dumbing viewers down

Director Anurag Kashyap, who once saw platforms like Netflix and Amazon as a gateway to greater creative liberty in Indian filmmaking, has now voiced his disillusionment with how these platforms have evolved. In a recent interview, he expressed concern over the quality of content being produced, stating that it has become 'even worse than television.' He also added that the OTT platforms are dumbing viewers down. Anurag Kashyap specifically pointed to major streaming platforms such as Netflix and Prime Video, criticizing them for prioritizing profit and subscriber growth over creativity. He noted that their content strategies are heavily influenced by algorithms, leaving little room for artistic freedom. In an interview with The Hindu, the director reflected on his past collaborations with Netflix, including the crime drama series Sacred Games and the anthology Lust Stories. He recalled that when these projects were made, Netflix's entry into the Indian market was seen as a promising opportunity, resulting in some quality work. However, he noted that around the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, things took a turn for the worse. He expressed his belief that the current content being produced on these platforms is inferior to television, accusing them of attempting to 'dumb down' viewers. He further remarked that streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon, and Apple are primarily driven by data, likening it to the new oil that attracts them to India. He added that streaming platforms are primarily focused on increasing their subscriber base, aiming to reach as many people as possible in a country with a population of 1.4 billion. According to him, they avoid offending anyone and are less interested in creating true art or cinema. Instead, their goal is to produce content that appeals to the widest audience, catering to the average viewer. He also pointed out that these companies are pleased that their shows are being watched on cellphones. In the same interview, when asked about the current state of the film industry, the director described it as 'very confused.' He suggested that if the industry still relied on the Khans, it might be more stable. However, he criticized the lack of originality in Bollywood's current output and said that the industry is still trying to find its direction. He added that hitting 'rock bottom' often leads to evolution, and expressed optimism that Bollywood, despite being in a slump, will eventually grow and transform. On the professional front, Kashyap's latest directorial venture, Kennedy, has yet to announce its release date in India. Meanwhile, he has recently appeared as an actor in the films Rifle Club and Viduthalai Part 2.
