Heartbreaking tributes paid to 'beautiful soul' after teenager stabbed to death
Ibrahima Seck, 14, was rushed to hospital but tragically died from his injuries on Sunday evening. Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to a "beautiful soul" who was stabbed to death outside a pub. Ibrahima Seck, 14, was rushed to hospital but tragically died from his injuries on Sunday evening. He was stabbed outside the Fairway Inn in New Moston, north Manchester, before running to nearby Nevin Road, where neighbours rushed to his aid. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, police closed off the scene and remained in attendance outside the pub on Monday. A property on nearby Warbeck Road has also been sealed off. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Ibrahima's family by Dawn Frimpong. She wrote: "I had the honour of working with this young man, in a school, where he was very well loved. "He was a beautiful soul who had the most infectious smile and you couldn't help but laugh with him. He will be missed by so many. I am attempting to raise as much money as possible for Ibrahima's family so they are not worrying about financial burden at this very difficult time. "We must stand together as communities in times like this and offer support no matter how big or small. Any contribution would be very greatly received." Miss Whittaker told the M.E.N. she taught Ibrahima at Manchester Community Primary Academy for two years. "Ibrahima was the most beautiful boy," she said. "He touched my soul and he had such a beautiful heart. I'm devastated beyond words." A neighbour of Ibrahima's, who did not want to be named, told our sister title that he was the youngest of three siblings. She said: 'He was so young, it's so very, very sad. I cannot understand what this country is coming to.' The woman said the family had lived on her street, a short distance from the Fairway Inn, for a 'couple of years' and she spoke to Ibrahima's parents as neighbours. 'I heard about it last night' she added. 'I heard the helicopter last night then I read about it on the news. Then a police car pulled up and they went inside. That's when we knew. "Another neighbour who knows the family very well said it was the youngest one. I felt sick. So very, very sick. I just couldn't believe that had happened to a family like that. It's so sad, bless them. There's not much we can, just offer our condolences and be there if they need anything.' Tributes have also been left at the scene where Ibrahima was attacked, alongside flowers and messages of support for his family. One note said: "From one mother to another, I know there are no words that can ever ease your pain. "But I pray God gives you the strength to face each new day. Please know that as a community we hold your family in our hearts." Another said: "Things need to change! Knives down, gloves up! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this horrific time. There are good people in this city! We pray for your son." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said: 'This incident will have shocked and saddened the local community, and distressed anyone who witnessed it. We are deploying significant resources to this murder investigation, and this led to quickly identifying potential suspects. 'Billions of pounds' to be spent on new Manchester to Liverpool railway line
Plans to build a new railway line between Manchester and Liverpool look set to go ahead. The government has committed to spending 'billions of pounds' on the project, according to reports. It comes after Andy Burnham urged the government to make a commitment towards the new train line when it announces its long-term spending plans next week. The Manchester Evening News and Liverpool ECHO joined forces to back the project when the mayor pitched the plans last month. READ MORE: Child arrested as investigation launched after 50 people rescued from major fire READ MORE: Moment man realised the game was up after being confronted on his doorstep According to the Financial Times, Rachel Reeves has now signed off plans to spend 'billions of pounds' on the major transport project. The newspaper reports that the plans will be funded through a £113bn investment in transport projects agreed by the Chancellor. Under the plans, express train would run every 10 minutes between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street with services calling at Warrington as well as the airports in each city. Journey times would also be slashed to just over half an hour each way. The proposal also include building an underground station at Piccadilly and a new transport interchange at Manchester Airport. Presenting the plans to cabinet ministers and senior civil servants last month, Mr Burnham said he wants the government commit to the new railway line as part of its 10-year Infrastructure Strategy which the M.E.N. understands is expected to be published next week. Mr Burnham, and his Liverpool City Region counterpart Steve Rotheram, said the plans could help add £90bn to the economy. At the time, Mr Burnham said: "What we would ask the government to consider is not to give everything we need right now. "It's simply to say that in the 2030s - hopefully starting in the early part of the 2030s - they will commit in the infrastructure strategy to a window when this railway will be built." Ms Reeves will deliver her Spending Review, setting out the government's multi-year budget, in Parliament next Wednesday (June 11). The M.E.N. understands the 10-year Infrastructure Strategy, which will include transport plans will then be published the following day.

Police issue statement after neo-Nazis celebrate Hitler's birthday in Oldham pub with swastika cake
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are investigating after neo-Nazis celebrated Adolf Hitler's birthday at an Oldham pub. North West members of the fringe far-right extremist group British Movement pulled out racist flags and a cake decorated with a swastika at the Duke of Edinburgh, in Royton, last Saturday afternoon (April 19). Pub staff told the Manchester Evening News they had been unaware of the group's activities, and they have since reported the matter to police. READ MORE: Drama as Jet2 flight to Manchester Airport diverted due to 'disruptive passengers' READ MORE: Neo-Nazis celebrate Hitler's birthday in an Oldham pub with racist flags and a swastika cake The M.E.N. understands police are investigating the incident as a Section 18 public order offence - which includes the displaying of written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, intended to stir up racial hatred. Greater Manchester Police has issued a new statement this afternoon (April 27), as it urges anyone with information about the incident to come forward. A force spokesperson said: "Police in Oldham are investigating reports that a group attended a pub on Market Street in Royton in possession of Nazi memorabilia. "We are treating this incident with the utmost sensitivity and severity, and we are appealing to the public. "If you have any information which may assist with the progression of the investigation, please to come forward. "Information can be shared by calling 0161 856 9577 or 101 quoting log 784 of April 24, 2025." The M.E.N. revealed how members of British Movement celebrated Hitler's birthday at the pub before boasting about their exploits on social media. Pictures posted on the organisation's Telegram feed showed the group displaying Nazi flags and a cake decorated with a swastika. One picture, showing three men with their faces pixelated holding a flag emblazoned with a swastika, SS bolts and the Iron Cross, has been digitally altered to include a black and white photograph of Hitler. Another shows five men stood posing behind the flag of British Movement, which was approached for comment by the M.E.N. Video footage obtained by the M.E.N. shows the men unfurling flags and posing for pictures, with one wearing a German national team football shirt with 'Fuhrer 44' printed on the back, appearing to do the Nazi salute. A post on the group's Telegram feed reads: "On a gorgeous sunny afternoon in Greater Manchester, a platoon of Northwest British Movement met up to celebrate the 136th Birthday of Uncle A." The Duke of Edinburgh's incoming landlady Jean Anderson, who is taking over the pub next week from her partner Terry English, told the M.E.N. she was angered by BM's actions. She said: "We didn't see anything until it was posted online. We thought it was a birthday party. They said they had a cake, but we didn't know what happened because they covered everything up. "The pub was full. There were about six to eight men and one woman. They sat in the corner and didn't cause any problems. I have never seen them before but they definitely won't be coming in here again." Craft Union, which owns the pub, said it was 'absolutely appalled at what took place' as it promised the group would not be welcome to visit its premises again.
