Umno leaders ignorant of MA63: Ruslan

Published on: Monday, July 21, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 21, 2025 By: Iskandar Dzulkifli Text Size: Ruslan criticised those who equate Sabah with other states, saying it reflects ignorance of the formation of Malaysia. PAPAR: Umno's Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan should not belittle the 'Sabah for Sabahan' (S4S) slogan by equating Sabah to other states in Malaysia when the Malaysia Agreement clearly held that both Bornean states are partners and not states of Malaya. Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Vice President Datuk Ruslan Muharam said that S4S symbolises the aspirations of the people of Sabah who want to see the state progress and prosper under the leadership of its own people, while still valuing cooperation with the Federal Government. Advertisement 'S4S is a reflection of reality, not mere political rhetoric. It embodies the spirit of Sabahans' struggle for their rights and privileges as outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),' Ruslan said during the launch of the G-NIUS e-Tuition programme. He stressed that Ahmad should be more aware and respectful of Sabahans' sensitivities, and not undermine S4S, which represents the rights and dignity of the people of Sabah. Ahmad, who is also the Head of Umno's Central War Room Secretariat, recently said that the slogan 'Malaysia for Sabah' (M4S) is more inclusive than S4S. The Pontian MP argued that M4S implies that Sabahans are not only for Sabah but are part of a greater Malaysian identity shared with the other 14 states. In response, Ruslan reiterated that Sabah is not just a state but one of the three founding regions of Malaysia, alongside Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, under the MA63 agreement. Ruslan, who is also the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah, criticised those who equate Sabah with other states, saying it reflects ignorance of the formation of Malaysia. 'Sabah is a region, not an ordinary state. Its status is unique and special, alongside Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, in forming this country as stipulated in MA63, in line with the 2022 constitutional amendment. Therefore, all parties should acknowledge this fact, and respect the history and spirit of the agreement which laid the foundation of modern-day Malaysia,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabahans have two choices in coming polls: Maslan

Published on: Friday, July 18, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 18, 2025 Text Size: Maslan urged Sabahans to view the M4S framework in a broader light, describing S4S as a seasonal slogan that tends to re-emerge during elections. Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans are faced with two major ideological paths in the 17th Sabah State Election – Malaysia for Sabahans (M4S) or Sabah for Sabahans (S4S). While S4S is being championed by local political parties advocating state autonomy and local interests, M4S is framed as a more national-centric agenda promoting inclusivity and unity within the Malaysian Federation. Advertisement Umno Central War Room Secretariat Chief, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, said the M4S concept aims to promote national unity, integration and equity while still respecting the rights and interests of Sabahans. 'M4S also means that Sabahans are not only for Sabah but for entire Malaysia. After all, we are one nation of 14 states and territories,' he said. He was speaking during a working visit to the state on Wednesday night, adding that the S4S agenda is more limited in scope compared to the broader and more inclusive M4S. However, he made no reference to the Sarawak situation which also emphasises a 'Sarawak first' policy, where Federal Government departments are also headed by Sarawakians, unlike in Sabah. According to Maslan, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 Sabahans are currently in Peninsular Malaysia for work, education or due to intermarriage. It is a testament, he said, to the inclusive nature of the Malaysian federation. 'Wouldn't it be better for Malaysia to belong to all Sabahans? Sabahans can travel to Sarawak and the Peninsula, and at the same time, Sarawakians and Peninsular Malaysians can find a home here in Sabah too,' he said. He said many from the peninsula and Sarawak are already integrated into Sabah society, serving as police officers, military personnel, teachers, doctors, nurses, technicians, engineers, and more. He urged Sabahans to view the M4S framework in a broader light, describing S4S as a seasonal slogan that tends to re-emerge during elections. On Sabah umno's autonomy, particularly in selecting candidates, he said the party employs a consultative approach, carefully listening to every proposal submitted. 'But let's be clear. There are no Peninsular Malaysians heading Umno at any level in Sabah. It is the Sabahans who lead the party here.' At the same time, Ahmad said Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) needed to win all, or at least a majority of the seats it contests if it hoped to be the core component in forming a new unity government after the election. He believes this is achievable if the party machinery can rally voters to unite behind Umno-BN candidates, with the party expected to contest up to 30 seats. 'In politics, nothing is impossible. We can regain the people's trust to rise again, especially after Sabahans have experienced several changes in government,' he said. He added that strategies for the upcoming state election have been finalised and handed over to each division's party machinery to execute for maximum impact. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? M4S promotes unity while respecting Sabah's rights: Ahmad Maslan

Published on: Thursday, July 17, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 17, 2025 By: Amir Anuar Text Size: Ahmad and others at the event. TAWAU: Central Umno war room secretariat chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan says Sabahans are now presented with two major choices in the coming 17th State Election – the nationally-driven 'Malaysia for Sabahans' (M4S) or the autonomy-based 'Sabah for Sabahans' (S4S) agenda. He described S4S as being pushed by local parties prioritising state rights, while M4S promotes a broader national integration approach within the Malaysian federation. Advertisement Ahmad stressed that M4S champions unity, fairness, and national inclusion without sidelining Sabah's interests and rights. He said that Sabahans are not only for Sabah but also for Malaysia, as the country is shared by 14 states and federal territories. He was commenting on the outcome of his working visit to the State on Wednesday evening and said S4S had a narrower scope compared to M4S. Ahmad added that for Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) to attract other parties in forming a new unity government post-election, it must win all or most of the seats it contests. Speaking at an Umno Kalabakan event, he said the goal was possible if the party machinery successfully rallied voters to back Umno-BN candidates. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
