Murder victim dumped in garbage truck

Compiled by MARTIN CARVALHO, and A GARBAGE truck driver in Bengaluru city, India, was shocked to find a woman's body, believed to be a murder victim, dumped in his lorry, Makkal Osai reported. The gruesome discovery happened several days ago when the municipal garbage collection truck driver was getting ready to start his shift in the morning. He had cleaned out the vehicle the night before, which is why he was initially annoyed to find that someone had dumped a large sack in the truck. His annoyance soon turned to horror when he saw a human head sticking out from the sack. The driver immediately called the police who then found that the woman had been raped, killed and dumped in the compactor truck. Her hands were also tied. Based on CCTV recordings, the authorities identified her as a 38-year-old widow named Pushpa who lived in a nearby town. Apparently, her live-in partner had been arrested after he was caught on CCTV dumping the body after transporting it on his motorbike. He was believed to have strangled her after an argument. Hearse driver tragically dies on the way to a funeral

Compiled by MARTIN CARVALHO, and IT was a heart-breaking end for a man who was driving a hearse to a funeral. He had collapsed and died while transporting a corpse in South Korea's Gyeonggi province on Sunday morning, China Press reported. The hearse was found stopped right in front of the entrance of the Yangji Tunnel on the Yeongdong Expressway. Police arrived at the scene 10 minutes later and found a man in his 50s slumped in the driver's seat. They broke the window to help the man and performed CPR before sending him to the hospital. Unfortunately, doctors failed to revive him. Police believe that the man had lost consciousness mid-journey. > The daily also reported that millennials in China are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) 'lovers' for emotional support to avoid the heartache of being in a real-life relationship. Nuonuo (not her real name) admitted to having an AI boyfriend with whom she discusses her worries and work troubles daily. She even secretly chats with her 'boyfriend' during work and claims they 'go out' on dates and spend birthdays together. 'We never argue. We don't have to spend money. Yet, there is a sense of companionship,' she said. Millions of mainland Chinese have downloaded apps offering AI companionship such as Maoxiang and Xingye. In just one year, Maoxiang's user base has more than doubled to over 2.2 million users. However, experts said that an over-reliance on AI for companionship would only widen the social rift between people. This, they said, would exacerbate the falling birthrate in China, which dropped to just 1.18 births per woman in 2022. About 90% of these app users were women, which meant the chances of men being in a relationship have fallen further. Sun bear spotted in Kemaman village stirs fear

Compiled by MARTIN CARVALHO, and SOME 500 villagers in Felda Seberang Tayor in Kemaman, Terengganu, have become a little fearful after having spotted a sun bear loitering around their village, Kosmo! reported. The bear is said to have been feasting on fruits from the villagers' orchards, showing a particular fondness for durians. Resident Johari Ariff, 49, claimed he stumbled upon the bear climbing a durian tree last week. 'I steeled myself to chase the animal down from the tree. But I was shocked that it had such long claws and sharp teeth,' he told the Malay daily. 'Thankfully, I managed to run off to save myself.' Another villager, Nazli Derani, 47, said the bear had also encroached into jackfruit and coconut orchards and is believed to have become active during the fruiting season. Aside from suffering losses, he also said villagers are now afraid to venture out at night. 'Our children aren't allowed to play outside unless accompanied by an adult,' Nazli added. Terengganu state Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director Loo Kean Seong said that the department has set up traps and will monitor the situation until the bear is caught. > Singer and actress Abby Abadi can't recall why she left the popular '90s girl group Elite, but she's looking forward to performing with them again in their first concert in over 25 years, Harian Metro reported. 'I wasn't annoyed with anyone. I'm not sure what led me to leave Elite, but it was a decision I made wholeheartedly,' the 48-year-old said. 'It also wasn't because I wanted to pursue acting either. In fact, I can't even recall exactly when I left Elite.' Abby, whose real name is Arbaiyah Abdul Manan, said she only remembers starting her acting career in 2000 when she landed a role in the police action drama Gerak Khas. Elite, formed in 1996 under the KRU music label, saw Abby involved in two albums – Catwalk and Tamparan – before her departure. She was later replaced by Fiza. Abby also said she didn't keep up with Elite's progress after stepping away, as she felt it was no longer relevant to her. The group is scheduled to perform their first reunion concert Elite Live '25 at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Sept 20. Besides Abby and Azza, the concert will feature Shasha Saidin, Watie Sadali and Linda Rafar. Uncle Gedek's 16-year selfie streak sets a record

Compiled by MARTIN CARVALHO and C. ARUNO MARZUKI Mahboob, 56, better known as Uncle Gedek, has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records for his feat of taking a selfie every day for the past 16 years, Kosmo! reported. Marzuki said he initially intended to create a blog titled 'Blog Begins At Forty', but he found writing challenging and opted instead to share daily selfies. 'From the start, I've shared a selfie from wherever I was, capturing different backgrounds,' he told K-Tekno. 'I'd strike a similar pose with the same facial expression, adding a short, humorous caption.' Besides using a smartphone, Marzuki said he would also use a DSLR camera or laptop to snap photos of himself. He also uploads time-lapse videos of his selfies to YouTube. These videos document the gradual transformation of his appearance, from black hair and beard to white. Among those who had taken selfies with him are Nurul Izzah Anwar, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Ramli Sarip, and Altimet. > It was reported by Sinar Harian that 34-year-old housewife Nur Ainatun Adillah Mohd Fauzi from Kuantan surprised herself by being able to gather 40kg of 'kepah' or clams in four hours. The mother of two had initially accompanied her husband and a friend to the fishermen's jetty in Pantai Balok, intending only to observe their clam gathering. However, she decided to join in and successfully collected a large quantity of clams between 8am and 11.45am on Monday. Nur Ainatun said the area is known for this annual clam phenomenon, which has recently gone viral on TikTok and Facebook. This surge in online attention has led to a rush of people to the area to collect clams. The above articles are compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies). JJ Lin fans from China fall victim to fraudulent ticket scam

Compiled by MARTIN CARVALHO and C. ARUNO OVER 20 Chinese nationals were scammed out of over RM40,000 after discovering their tickets for Singaporean singer JJ Lin's concert at Stadium Bukit Jalil were fake, reported Sin Chew Daily. With Lin's concerts sold out in China, his Chinese fans travelled to Malaysia specifically to attend the 'JJ20' FINAL LAP World Tour in Kuala Lumpur on May 10. Some even paid as much as RM5,000 for VIP seats, only to be denied entry at the stadium as their tickets were fake. One of the victims set up a chat group for some 20 other victims from China to share their experience of being scammed. They have collectively made a police report in Malaysia. > A man in China's Henan province quit smoking after his wife contracted lung cancer, reported China Press. 'I tried quitting before but was never successful. Now, for the sake of my family, I will no longer smoke,' said the man, who was a smoker for four decades. The man's wife saw a doctor after experiencing a cough and tightness in her chest. The husband, 58, said he started smoking when he was 15 and had never been able to quit the habit. When the story came to light, many Internet users criticised the husband for his actions, saying that they were tantamount to murder. 'What is the use in quitting now that she is diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer?' one netizen asked.
