Riveiro vows never to coach another PSL Club
Jose Riveiro will be remembered for his loyalty and his demeanor as he closed his Orlando Pirates chapter with a 3-0 win against Lamontville Golden Arrows. Having said that, he was asked in his last press conference whether or not he would coach another Premier Soccer League club, for example a team like Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns. This is what he had to say. 'No, never. Once, Always,' Riveiro told the media after his last match coaching Orlando Pirates, quoted by Soccer Laduma . 'I will never coach any other team in South Africa, AmaBhakaniya. Orlando Pirates are the only club that I could have the motivation and the courage and the energy – and the heart, in this case – to coach in the country. No doubt.' So Riveiro will not be making any headlines by moving to Chiefs or Sundowns because the Bucs emblem is fully ingrained in his heart. Jose Riveiro leaves the head coach seat in a much better place. He has added five trophies to the Sea Robbers trophy cabinet, three MTN 8 Cups and two Nedbank Cups. But also a playing style that brought the people back to the stadium. Going with a 62% win ratio, added to this a club record wins total for Pirates and despite not being able to win a league during his stint, three consecutive CAF Champions League qualifications, six domestic cup finals and the CAF Champions League semi-final run, losing narrowly to Pyramids FC, will live long in the memory of the supporters, the 'Happy People'. According to reports, Riveiro is on his way to Al Ahly in Egypt. Where he will try and write a new story at another African giant. Jose Riveiro's human touch at Orlando Pirates
As Jose Riveiro tenure at Orlando Pirates winds down in his final match in charge, he will leave as a coach of the cups but also a coach that remained professional and humble until the end. The kind of mentor that allowed South African players to be themselves. When the Bucs walked on any field, there was always a tailored plan but it would never stifle any individual from bringing out the very thing that made them unique. Riveiro would always protect is players in interviews. He would not discuss them individually but instead always referred to the collective, the team. He clearly loved his players and had a unique way of bringing every player on board. The Spanish tactician became a father for the majority of his squad, and certainly improved a large junk of them as well. Riveiro arrived in June 2022, and has gone on to win five trophies, namely three MTN 8 Cups and two Nedbank Cups. The only real stain left behind by Jose Riveiro would be his inability to lift the South African Premiership, the league title, now known as the Betway Premiership. This is the only piece of silverware besides the CAF Champions League that has alluded him. The birth of stars like Relebohile Mofokeng, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Thabiso Sesane and Mohau Nkota is some of the more notable careers that he has ignited within his short stint at the Sea Robbers. But wow what an impact he has made from day 1. So now he is leaving the Soweto giants having beaten Lamontville Golden Arrows 3-0 in such a professional way, synonymous with how he will be remembered. As he said goodbye to his players after the match, he hugged each one of them with the same amount of warmth and embrace. After the match, coach Riveiro said that coaching Orlando Pirates was life changing and that his life won't be the same again. But also that he could not disclose where he was going next, because of confidentiality. But as we previously reported, he is set to join Al Ahly pending final minor details. 'I wish but I can't. There is things of confidentiality and stuff like that, it's not me the one who has the responsibility to announce,' Riveiro told SuperSport. 'But it's going to be very soon. I think that everybody will be understandable and hopefully happy for me and wishing me all the best.' Gracias Jose Riveiro! Stay tuned with The South African as we sign off Jose Riveiro's time at Orlando Pirates. What did you make of Riveiro's stint in the PSL? Pirates news: Coach rejects Riveiro job; Kaizer Chiefs target snatched?
Orlando Pirates, on the hunt for Jose Riveiro's successor, have a new man in their sights, but it hasn't gone according to plan. Simba coach and Cape Town native Fadlu Davids is enjoying an emphatic season in Tanzania, sitting second on the log and recently dismissing Stellenbosch to reach the CAF Confederation Cup, where they face RSB Berkane. The 43-year-old knows the Soweto giants well, having spent two years as assistant coach to Josef Zinnbauer, winning the club's first of four MTN8 Cups in five years. Orlando Pirates are hoping for a reunion, but the former Maritzburg United sounds settled in Tanzania, derailing any hopes of acquiring his services. 'Yes, it's true that Orlando Pirates wanted Davids back. It was not only Pirates, Raja (Casablanca) also wanted him, but he wanted to remain with Simba,' Citizen reported . 'He says he still has some unfinished business with Simba. He has done well at Simba and the fans love him so he wants to stay at the club.' Yanela Mbuthuma has what many South African soccer players dream off: Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates interest. Both clubs are eager to have him, but of course, only one can. 'There are several players that the club is looking at for next season but the first priority is the striking department and it's believed that they have identified Richards Bay United's Yanela Mbuthuma and the club is set to table an offer for him,' a source said. The 23-year-old has netted five goals across all competitions this season. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
