Relive the legacy of Indian cricket at new MPCA museum

Indore: As MPCA members, guests, and cricket lovers stepped into the newly unveiled museum at Holkar Stadium on Monday, many felt as if they had stepped onto the hallowed grounds of Lord's Cricket Ground, where India won the 1983 World Cup. With a replica of the iconic Lord's balcony welcoming visitors, complete with a life-size statue of Kapil Dev lifting the 1983 World Cup, the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has brought Indian cricket's most defining moment home. As the visitors entered the museum, they were greeted by a striking statue of Colonel CK Nayudu in a soldier's uniform at the entrance—a powerful tribute to India's first Test captain. The museum was inaugurated by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and 1983 World Cup winner and former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar, in the presence of cricketers, officials, and fans. "I felt as if I entered Lord's," said Scindia, describing his experience to the audience at the inauguration. "It's not every day that a dream is transformed into brick and light. That's what we saw today at MPCA. Every single showcase in this room feels like a pause in history—it's a testament to emotion, to legacy, and to the hard work behind the game," added Scindia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cervecería Nacional CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Empieza a invertir hoy Empieza ahora Undo Calling himself a "museum junkie," he added, "I've visited museums around the world, but this one stands above the rest in the way it is depicted. This is nothing less than a mandir for cricket lovers." He further urged the MPCA to integrate modern technology like AR and VR to engage younger fans. The idea of this museum was conceived over a decade ago. The museum pays homage not just to national milestones but also to Madhya Pradesh's rich cricketing heritage. The museum showcases over 500 artefacts and memorabilia, including a dedicated section on the 1983 World Cup with Kapil Dev's bat, Vengsarkar's helmet, photos of the team, jerseys, and other sports gear. Before the inauguration, Dilip Vengsarkar gifted his helmet to the museum, which he wore around 40 years ago. Vengsarkar, visibly moved by the tribute, said the recreation of Lord's and the celebration of Indian cricket's greatest moment was both emotional and inspiring. "It will be hard to match what this museum offers. This kind of museum will be inspirational for budding cricketers," said Vengsarkar, addressing the gathering. The museum consists of sports artefacts donated and loaned by many former cricketers and enthusiasts. Some items have been sourced by Pune's cricket museum, Blades of Glory. The museum will be open to the public in a week with an entry fee of Rs 100. MPCA President Abhilash Khandekar said that the museum is expected to become a landmark for sports tourism and cricketing inspiration in central India. The replica and façade have been created by Indore's Padma Shri awardee, Bhalu Mondhe.
