Prayagraj Mandal Sant Samiti to bring together all temples, mutts

Prayagraj: The Prayagraj Mandal Sant Samiti has been officially formed with the aim of bringing together all temples and mutts (monasteries) within the Prayagraj region. The decision was unanimously agreed upon during a recent meeting held at the historic Baghambari Mutt, attended by various revered seers and members of different Akharas. The primary objective of the Samiti is to unify small and large temples across Prayagraj and work collaboratively towards the restoration and preservation of lesser-known or deteriorating shrines and mutts. The committee will also ensure that the voices and rights of saints associated with these institutions are acknowledged and upheld. A major highlight of the meeting was the consensus that, similar to Kashi (Varanasi) and other districts that have established religious councils, Prayagraj too needs a cohesive body to represent and safeguard its spiritual heritage. Mahant Balveer Giri, head of Baghambari Gaddhi Mutt and a key figure in the religious community, and a central voice in this initiative, said, "Through the Prayagraj Mandal Sant Samiti, we aim to unite every mutt, temple and saint in the region so that their issues, traditions and rights are given due respect. A strong collective voice is essential for our spiritual and cultural continuity." Additionally, the Samiti plans to organise dedicated camps for these temples during the upcoming Magh Mela, further enhancing religious cooperation and public engagement. According to Devendra Shastri of the Nirmal Akhara, the formation process is complete, and the selection of officials such as President and General Secretary will be finalised in the coming days.

SRN Hospital in Prayagraj to transform trauma centre into level-1 facility

With an aim to strengthen emergency medical services in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH) in Prayagraj is set to upgrade its existing level-2 trauma centre to a full-fledged level-1 facility. Aligning with the Apex Trauma Centre Guidelines by the union ministry of health and family welfare, the proposed expansion will transform the trauma centre into a state-of-the-art 100-bed level-1 facility at a cost of over ₹38.84 crore, said officials at SRNH, an associated hospital of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj. According to officials, the construction of the new trauma block will begin in June 2025. The facility to developed with the state government's support will likely be functional within 18-24 months. Dr RK Chaudhry, co-nodal officer of the trauma centre at SRN Hospital, said, 'With the transition to level-1 trauma care, we aim to save more lives by ensuring timely, integrated, and multidisciplinary treatment for every serious case arriving here. The upgraded centre will be a lifeline for trauma victims in eastern U.P. and a model of modern emergency care in the state.' Planned expansion As per the already-floated tender and planning documents, the new trauma block will include a state-of-the-art integrated emergency room with triage, resuscitation, and fast-track bays along with dedicated ICU and HDU zones with increased bed strength. There will also be a high dependency unit (HDU), also known as an intermediate care unit (ICU) or step-down unit -- a specialised area within a hospital that provides a higher level of care than a general ward but is not an intensive care unit. The facility will also have at least four modular operation theatres, on-site CT, MRI, digital X-ray, and ultrasonography units as well as 24x7 in-house laboratory and blood bank support along with dedicated spaces for neurosurgery, orthopaedic trauma, plastic and general surgery teams. Current scenario and limitations At present, SRN Hospital's trauma centre, functioning since 2012, operates with 53 beds, including 10 intensive care unit beds, two operation theatres besides diagnostic and critical testing facilities. The current layout affects patient mobility and slows down multidisciplinary interventions during emergencies, officials said. Wide catchment and patient load Currently, the SRNH trauma centre serves hundreds of trauma patients every week, not only from Prayagraj but also from adjoining districts, including Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, and parts of Madhya Pradesh, officials said. Most cases involve road traffic accidents, head injuries, polytrauma, burns, and orthopaedic emergencies. Hospital officials claim to have noted a spike in trauma referrals during Magh Mela, Kumbh Mela and festive seasons, when mass gatherings lead to a higher incidence of accidents and critical injuries. Apex Trauma Centre Guidelines As per national norms and the Trauma Care Facility Guidelines by the Directorate General of Health Services, a level-1 trauma centre must be affiliated with a teaching hospital, have multidisciplinary specialist teams available 24x7, possess full diagnostic and operative capabilities on-site, have designated space for rehabilitation and psychological care, and serve as a referral hub for lower-tier trauma centres SRNH meets a major part of the eligibility already and is being structurally equipped now to meet remaining requirements, hospital officials said.

Prayagraj: On the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, more than 57.1 million devotees took a holy dip in the Triveni waters on Wednesday, said an official statement from Uttar Pradesh Information Department. The ongoing religious event has witnessed an overwhelming show of faith, with millions gathering at the Triveni Sangam to mark this auspicious day of spiritual cleansing and devotion. The number of Kalpwasis, who observe month-long spiritual austerities, exceeded 1 million, adding to the spiritual fervor. The total footfall for the ongoing Magh Mela has now surpassed 199.4 million, even as a stampede-like situation briefly occurred due to the overwhelming rush at key bathing ghats. Earlier in the day, Members of Akhara's gathered in small numbers at Triveni Sangam to take an 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of 'Mauni Amavasya. Digambar Naga Baba Chidanand Puri of Panchayati Niranjani Akhara speaking to ANI after taking 'Amrit snan' said that after today's stampede-like situation in Maha Kumbh people from Niranjani Akhara are coming in small numbers to take a holy dip. "Due to an unexpected event today, our (Akharas) shobha yatra could not be taken out. We are now coming to take a holy dip in small numbers," Digambar Naga Baba said. This comes after a stampede-like situation arose at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj in the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in several injuries. This incident occurred as millions of devotees gathered at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers to take a holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, which is also the day of the Second Shahi Snan. Following the incident, heavy security has been deployed at the Triveni Sangam as police pave the way for Akharas and saints for their Amrit Snan on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, 36.1 million devotees had taken the holy dip at Triveni by 10 AM on Wednesday. Other key bathing dates during the Mahakumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
