The world's thinnest foldable now expected to arrive in June
Honor Magic V3 is impossibly thin | Image credit: PhoneArena One of the most exciting foldables expected to be released this year, Honor Magic V5, is about to get its 'red carpet' moment. Honor has a penchant for releasing extremely thin and light foldables and the Magic V5 is no exception, at least according to the Chinese company's this week, Honor's exec Li Kun confirmed once again that the Magic V5 will be released in the first half of the year. According to them, the foldable ' will still be the lightest and thinnest ' on the market. Just like it did with its previous foldables, Honor will launch the Magic V5 in China first, but we can safely assume a global release will follow soon. Despite the fact that Honor's official wasn't very clear about the phone's launch, there are no big launch events the company scheduled to take place in May, which is why it's almost certain the Magic V5 will be introduced sometime in June. To become the world's thinnest foldable, Magic V5 must drop below the 9.2mm mark, the exact measurements of the Magic V3. In fact, in order to retain the title for more than a month, Honor's upcoming foldable must measure less than 8.9mm. Honor Magic V3 was once the world's thinnest foldable | Image credit: PhoneArena For the unaware, Samsung is expected to launch its next generation of foldables, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, in July. The former is said to measure 8.9mm, so Honor Magic V5 must be thinner. The only rumors regarding the Honor Magic V5 thickness claim that the foldable will measure 8.x millimeters, which is not hard to assume considering that it should be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in order for Honor to respect its claims. Currently, Oppo Find N5 is the world's thinnest foldable at just 8.93mm thick. Besides its very thin silhouette, the Magic V5 is expected to pack a large 5,950 mAh battery. In comparison, the previous Magic V3 model has a 5,150 mAh battery, so it's incredible that Honor managed not just to make the Magic V5 thinner but also add a much bigger battery. Finally, a new report coming from reliable tipster Experience More claims the Magic V5 will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and will feature BeiDou satellite messaging.

Honor throws shade at Samsung with bold claim: 'Thin without the catch'
Honor is turning up the heat on Samsung, challenging the Korean tech giant's latest pride point, ultra-thin smartphone design — with a not-so-subtle jab at the newly launched Galaxy S25 Edge. In a cheeky teaser, the Chinese brand has claimed its upcoming Magic V3 foldable is slimmer than Samsung's sleekest handset ever, and it's not afraid to say why that matters. Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge made headlines with its razor-thin 5.8mm body, touted as 'beyond slim' and packed with flagship-grade specs. Featuring a 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a 3,900mAh battery, the phone is being marketed as the epitome of style meeting performance in a compact form. The brand's latest teaser claims the Magic V3 unfolds to just 4.35mm, making it even thinner than the S25 Edge, albeit when open. Accompanied by the tagline 'THIN without the catch,' Honor takes a clear swipe at Samsung's design philosophy, suggesting that being slim shouldn't mean making compromises. Honor didn't just stop at measurements. The company highlighted a larger 5,150mAh battery in the Magic V3, indicating that its engineering prowess allows it to balance thinness with practical power. While it left out camera specifics and chipset details, the implication is that performance remains competitive, and perhaps more balanced than Samsung's approach. The message is clear: thin is good, but not at the cost of battery life, camera versatility, or charging speed — areas where Samsung's latest Edge may have made trade-offs in pursuit of slimness. However, context matters. The Galaxy S25 Edge is a slab-style smartphone, while the Magic V3 is a foldable, and the 4.35mm figure refers to its thickness when unfolded — not when folded shut. In practice, foldables tend to be bulkier in folded mode, and durability is still a work in progress for the category. Even so, Honor's teaser sets the stage for a showdown not just on specs, but on design philosophy. As smartphones get thinner, brands are increasingly being challenged to prove they haven't cut corners in the process. And Honor clearly wants consumers to ask: what did you lose to go slim? With the Magic V3 expected to launch soon, all eyes will be on whether Honor can back up the bravado — or if its punchy marketing is more style than substance.

Honor is calling out Samsung's design choices, and it brought receipts
Honor isn't holding back when it comes to marketing the Magic V3. The company just took a jab at Samsung's latest Galaxy S25 Edge by comparing thickness — or rather, slimness — in a teaser that's anything but subtle. Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge as its thinnest smartphone ever. At just 5.8mm thick, the phone comes with a bold tagline of being "beyond slim," and packs some serious hardware: a 200MP camera in a rail-like module, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and a suite of AI-powered features. Despite its slim frame, Samsung still managed to squeeze in a 3900mAh battery. But Honor wasn't impressed. In a direct comparison, the Chinese brand highlighted that its foldable Magic V3 measures just 4.35mm in thickness when fully unfolded, undercutting Samsung's S25 Edge by a noticeable margin. More importantly, Honor claims that its device makes no compromises to get there. In its teaser, Honor asked, "Why thin if you're making compromises to get there?" alongside the phrase "THIN without the catch." The clear implication is that the Galaxy S25 Edge may have cut some corners to achieve its ultra-slim design, something Honor suggests it avoided with the Magic back that up, Honor pointed out that the Magic V3 carries a larger, 5150mAh battery despite being thinner in its unfolded state. Camera specs between the two phones are reportedly similar, though specifics weren't provided in this particular teaser. Still, it's worth noting that the Galaxy S25 Edge and Magic V3 aren't exactly in the same category. One is a conventional slab-style flagship, while the other is a foldable. Comparing thickness between a folded phone and an unfolded one doesn't paint a complete picture, and real-world performance and durability could matter more than raw measurements. This isn't the first time Honor has poked fun at competitors, and it probably won't be the last. As both companies continue to refine their high-end devices, we'll likely see more of these playful jabs. But whether it's about battery size, camera capabilities, or thinness, the ultimate choice will still come down to how well these features hold up in everyday use.

Honor Magic V5 could have a bigger battery than Z Fold 7
The yet-to-be-announced Honor Magic V5 is rumored to come with a bigger than that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Per a report from GSMArena, the size of the battery within Honor's upcoming foldable phone is expected to be close to 6,000mAh. That's because it will house two battery cells of varying sizes. One of those battery cells will be 3,880mAh, while the other is said to be 2,070mAh. Combining the two batteries together brings the Honor Magic V5's battery size to 5,950mAh. Recommended Videos That's 800mAh bigger than the battery inside the Honor Magic V3, which was 5,150mAh. At that size, the Magic V3 supported 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging — all while maintaining its title as the world's thinnest foldable smartphone. The Magic V5 will also support 66W wired charging, but its wireless charging and reverse wireless charging specs have yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the Z Fold 7 is said to have a 4,400mAh battery, which is the same capacity as the Z Fold 6. If the size of the Z Fold 7's battery does remain the same, it would be plausible to assume that its charging power will be the same — 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5 reverse wireless charging. However, we won't know the Z Fold 7's true battery specs until Samsung officially announces the device. You're probably wondering, 'Where's the Magic V4?' We reported on rumors surrounding it back in February, but reports revealed that Honor will skip it in favor of the Magic V5. This is because Chinese phone manufacturers associate the number four with bad luck, and the Mandarin word for four veers close to the word for 'death,' resulting in tetraphobia. This is exactly why Oppo released the Oppo Find N5 after the Oppo Find N3.

Honor Magic V4 camera leak hints at another benchmark-setting foldable
If this new leak is to be believed, the upcoming Honor Magic V4 might have one of the best cameras we've ever seen in a foldable phone. A follow-up to the Magic V3, the Magic V4 is still yet to get an official set of specs, but a leaker just pulled the curtain on what we might expect from the new phone, including a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. This could put it right on the top of the ranking of the best foldable phones. As revealed by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Honor Magic V4 might come with an impressive set of specs, but let's dig into the camera stuff first. The leaker teases that the phone will sport a 50MP 1/1.5″ primary sensor paired up with a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. That periscope camera will feature a 1/1.4″ type sensor and impressive 3x optical zoom. Such a camera in a foldable would let the Honor Magic V4 lead the charge among other foldables, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which only sports a 10MP telephoto lens. The Oppo Find N5 would be left in the dust, too, as it has a 50MP periscope telephoto camera. The Honor Magic V3 was the thinnest foldable in the world upon launch, but the Oppo Find N5 stole that crown shortly after. However, despite the impressive camera setup, the new V4 might be even thinner, with the leaker claiming that it'll measure less than 9mm when folded. For comparison's sake, the V3 measured 9.2mm when folded. The above picture does a good job of illustrating just how thin the V3 was compared to some of its competitors. Aside from the size and the camera, the Honor Magic V4 is said to offer an 8-inch 2K 120Hz inner display paired with a 6.45″ 120Hz outer screen. Rumor has it that the new phone will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite system-on-a-chip (SoC). Those specs sound exciting, implying that the foldable phone arena is about to start heating up. The Honor Magic V4 should make its debut this summer, with leakers pinning June as the likely release window.
