Surprise! Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 found to be thinner than 'world's slimmest foldable'
This year Honor is claiming that the Magic V5 is the "world's slimmest foldable," but a recent comparison video between the V5 and Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to show that the newest Fold is microns thinner.
We unfortunately can't get the Honor Magic V5 in the U.S., but Honor's marketing materials claim that the Ivory White color way is 8.8mm when folded, which is 0.1mm thinner than Samsung's Z Fold 7 measuring in at 8.9mm.

A recent video from regular leaker Ice Universe popped up on X this week that shows the Magic V5 side-by-side with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. At first glance, the two devices look about the same thickness, though .1mm isn't that great a difference, but does it make the Z Fold 7 one of the best foldable phones?
However, a card placed on top of the phones appears to show that Honor's device is slightly taller than Samsung's. They further emphasized this by putting a ping pong ball on the card with the tilt going toward the Z Fold 7.
At this point, we're splitting micrometers difference here.
They do have another comparison video that includes the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5, vivo X Fold 5 and the OPPO Find N5, which Honor's device seems more of a match.

Let's get some caveats out of the way here.
One, Ice Universe is a regular, and seemingly only, leaker of Samsung products, specifically its phones. So there could be some bias there.
Two, with no wider shot or level on the table, it's not clear if the surface is actually even enough for a fair test.
In a comment to another X user they claimed, "My test is very rigorous. I switched the position of my mobile phone, and I have ruled out the uneven desktop. You can get the correct conclusion no matter what, even without a ruler."
To be fair, they did post a follow up with a digital ruler that appears to show the Magic V5 measuring at 8.95mm and the Z Fold 7 at 8.79mm.
Lastly, according to Honor's own metrics the 8.8mm measurement only applies to the Ivory White variant and that other colors may be thicker. Though Ice Universe does claim they tested the "white version."
"Data comes from the HONOR Lab. 8.8mm refers to the thickness of the Ivory White model in the folded state," Honor's website says. "The actual data may vary depending on configurations, manufacturing processes and measurement methods."
We're not going to cast aspersions on Honor about whether or not they're lying. At best it's stretching the truth, since they go out of the way to caveat their own hype, but it does seem like Samsung may hold the thinness crown for now.
Though when you're measuring at micrometers, outside of marketing, is there really a difference?

And I also recognize that not everyone's going to want to pay more than $1,000 for a foldable phone, and just want to know if the trade-offs they have to make to get a cheaper device are worth it. With that in mind, I'm going to take a more open-minded approach toward the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and highlight what the new phone has to offer. Having already outlined my concerns about this device, here's the case for getting a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and saving yourself the extra money that you'd have to pay for Samsung's other foldable offerings. It may be the cheapest of the three phones announced at Galaxy Unpacked July 2025, but that doesn't mean the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is immune from all the pre-order offers currently available ahead of the phone's July 25 release. Play your cards right, and you can lower the cost of a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE even further from Samsung's usual $899 asking price. Yes, you are missing out on some updated specs that you would get with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 — namely bigger screens, a larger battery and an updated processor. Those aren't insignificant sacrifices but if you value sharp images, particularly in low-light settings, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE should deliver what you're looking for. One thing I appreciate about Samsung's approach to AI is that it doesn't favor more expensive models with more elaborate features. The same Galaxy AI capabilities available to anyone who's bought the $1,299 Galaxy S25 Ultra are also available on the $799 Galaxy S25. And so it is with Samsung's foldable flip phones, too. In the case of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, that means Now Brief updates directly on the phone's outer screen, alerting you about upcoming appointments, weather forecasts and traffic jams on your commute. Now Bar updates also appear on the outer screen, and you've got access to Gemini Live via the FE, too. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE join other premium Samsung phones in receiving a guaranteed seven years of software and security updates. That same level of support extends to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, extending the value of this phone even further. With Android 16 already pre-installed on the FE, that means your phone will still be up to date by the time Android 23 — or whatever Google winds up calling that version — rolls around. And that's pretty impressive for the least expensive foldable phone in Samsung's lineup. None of this is to say that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will grab the mantle of the best low-cost foldable phone by default. Not only will we have to review Samsung's phone on its own merits, we'll need to compare it to the $699 Motorola Razr (2025) and $999 Motorola Razr Plus (2025) to see how it measures up to Moto's sub-$1,000 foldables. It figures to be a very interesting comparison. Rather, the point here is that there are plenty of reasons to consider pre-ordering the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, even if its specs seem to have more in common with last year's model than a new release. Yes, you're making some trade-offs, but the ultimate value may be worth it in the end.

Facebook Deletes 10 Million Accounts And Warns The Purge Will Go On
Facebook is purging accounts, 10 million gone in just six months. Some of the world's biggest online platforms are purging accounts. We've seen Google Maps and Gmail users impacted, Samsung recently emailed me an account deletion warning, and now Facebook can be added to the list. Meta has confirmed that a staggering 10 million accounts have been deleted in the first half of 2025 alone, and the purge is not stopping there. Here's everything you need to know. 10 Million Facebook Accounts Deleted Since The Start Of 2025 Nobody likes the thought of their online accounts being deleted, which is why there was something of a panic around Google sending emails about just such a purge when they hit inboxes towards the end of 2023. Of course, that panic was unjustified, as the emails referred to a change in Google's inactive account policy, which meant that those left unused for two years were being deleted. But what if active accounts are being purged, as is the case with the Facebook confirmation, is that cause for concern? The answer, at least for the overwhelming majority of legitimate Facebook users, is a resounding no. In fact, I'd argue it's cause for security celebration. A July 14 announcement in the Facebook creators blog explains exactly why in its lede: 'We believe that creators should be celebrated for their unique voices and perspectives, not drowned out by copycats and impersonators.' Given the warning issued to all 220 Amazon Prime customers regarding attacks where brand impersonation was front and center, it should come as some relief to us all that Meta is taking the issue seriously when it comes to Facebook creators. All too often, such impersonation is just one step away from malicious intent, using the reputation of others to engender trust and leverage attack methodologies. As a continuation of efforts to remove spammy content, including fake engagement and impersonation, Facebook has confirmed that since the start of the year, it 'took down around 10 million profiles impersonating large content producers.' This is in addition to 500,000 accounts found to have been engaging in said spammy behavior and fake engagement having comments demoted, reach reduced and monetization stopped. The good news is that Meta intends to carry on doing more of the same. 'Facebook aims to be a place where original content thrives, and creators are rewarded for their hard work and creativity,' the announcement concluded.
