Kavitha leads Telangana Jagruthi's Maha Dharna against notices to KCR

Telangana Jagruthi, led by MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, staged a Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park in Hyderabad on Wednesday (June 4, 2025) against the Justice PC Ghosh Commission of Inquiry's notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. She alleged that the notices were part of a political vendetta targeting KCR. Speaking at the venue of the protest, Ms. Kavitha questioned the rationale behind the notice, asking what wrong KCR had done, particularly in providing water to parched lands and positioning the State at the top in development. She emphasized the magnitude of the Kaleshwaram project, highlighting its extensive infrastructure, including 21 pump houses, 15 reservoirs, and 200 km of tunnels. Ms. Kavitha accused the Congress government of conspiring against the project, which she claimed would provide water to nearly 40 lakh acres and turn Telangana green. She alleged that the State government prioritized commissions and contractors over the State's interests. The BRS MLC demanded that the Congress government in the State write to the Centre to stop the Godavari-Penna linkage project, alleging it was an attempt divert Telangana's water to Andhra Pradesh. She criticised State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for not questioning Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's alleged water theft and expressed disappointment over the silence of the party leaders, including MP Etala Rajender.

Kavitha leads protest against notices to KCR over irregularities in Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha on Wednesday led a protest against the notices issued to party president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao by P. C. Ghose Commission, which is probing the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. Telangana Jagruthi, headed by Kavitha, held a Maha Dharna near Indira Park. She termed the notices a political conspiracy against BRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). Kavitha, who is daughter of KCR, alleged that the Congress government formed the Commission to defame KCR. Stating that the former chief minister transformed Telangana's agricultural landscape and turned barren lands fertile, she accused the Congress of targeting the former Chief Minister in an attempt to divert public attention from its governance "failures". "What mistake KCR has committed that he has been served the notice?" she asked and remarked that notice to KCR is like notice to the entire Telangana. The BRS MLC alleged that the Congress government is not carrying out minor repairs to the Medigadda Barrage, a part of the Kaleshwaram project. She pointed out that once the project is completed, it will irrigate 35 per cent of Telangana. Kavitha slammed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his failure to stop Andhra Pradesh from taking away the due share of Telangana in the Godavari River. She demanded that the state government stop diversion of waters in the name of the Godavari-Penna link project. The BRS MLC also found fault with former minister and BJP MP Eatala Rajender for not speaking out against the notice to KCR. She demanded that Rajender take up the responsibility of bringing national status to the Kaleshwaram project and to stop the Godavari-Banakacharla link project. This is the first protest led by Kavitha after her recent outbursts, indirectly targeting her brother and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). Kavitha had questioned why the BRS did not organise any protest against the Kaleshwaram Commission's notices to KCR. She had remarked that mere posts on the social media platform X would do no good to the party. Kavitha, whose confidential letter to KCR got leaked, triggering a storm in the party, made it clear that she will work only under the leadership of KCR. She lashed out at party leaders, targeting her through "paid articles" and social media posts.

BJP MP Raghunandan Rao terms Kavitha's dharna a 'media stunt'

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raghunandan Rao dismissed BRS MLC K Kavitha's call for a 'Maha Dharna' at Indira Park as a political attempt to remain in public view. The protest, scheduled for June 4, comes in response to a notice issued by the PC Ghose Commission to her father and Telangana former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in connection with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Calling the protest unnecessary, Rao said, 'Instead of doing a dharna at Indira Park, whatever the allegations against KCR, you can go and deny it before the commission.' Labelling the protest as mere theatrics, he said, 'Doing dharna is a mere political stunt to gain some relevance in the media, and there is nothing else to it.' Rao said the proper procedure should be followed in the matter and clarified that the Centre cannot independently initiate a probe without the state's consent. 'It is the duty of the state government to write a letter to the CBI, or to the Central government, to take the case. The CBI or the Centre cannot take the issue directly.' Kavitha, who had on May 21 objected to the PC Ghose commission's notice to KCR in connection with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, has announced the protest as a response to what she termed 'calculated political conspiracy'. In a post on X, Kavitha emphasised that Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers. 'The notices to KCR Garu over the Kaleshwaram project are part of a calculated political conspiracy to tarnish the image of a true people's leader. Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers and future generations, not for politics. Today, this inefficient Congress government is undoing the very progress Telangana fought for,' Kavitha wrote. The BRS MLC further highlighted that KCR has devoted his life to Telangana and the transformation of barren lands into fields of prosperity, which is now being targeted by the 'visionless' regime. 'KCR Garu, who has devoted his life to Telangana, transforming barren lands into fields of prosperity, is now being targeted by a visionless regime. No vindictive Government can diminish his legacy. The truth will prevail, and history will remember who stood for the people and who tried to bring them down,' the post read. Justice PC Ghose Commission on May 20 had issued summons to former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister Harish Rao, and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who also served as a minister during the BRS regime, in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). The Commission, which has been probing financial and procedural lapses in the multi-crore irrigation project, directed the three political leaders to appear for questioning in the first week of June. According to the sources, KCR was asked to appear before the Commission on June 5, followed by Harish Rao on June 6 and Etela Rajender on June 9. (ANI)

Retd employees demand immediate payment of dues

Hyderabad: The Telangana All Pensioners & Retired Persons Association (TAP&RPA) organised a Maha Dharna programme on Tuesday at Indira Park Dharna Chowk, demanding the resolution of issues faced by state government pensioners. TGEJAC General Secretary Eluri Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the dharna, with State President Potula Narayana Reddy and General Secretary Palakurthi Krishnamurthy announcing plans to launch a large-scale movement across the state to address the concerns of employees, teachers, and pensioners. They mentioned that departmental notes had been sent to nine departments to resolve issues affecting 27 departments in the state. The speakers emphasised that if the problems of 1.3 million pensioners are not addressed, they will lose confidence and vote against the government. Former MLC A Narsi Reddy criticized the Central government's orders that hinder the functioning of state governments, stating that such interference should cease. He urged the government to stop provoking emotions without resolving the people's problems. CITU leader V S Rao pointed out that the government is prioritising the interests of corporate entities and contractors over the welfare of employees, pensioners, and workers. He warned that if this policy continues, it may lead to this government being overthrown, similar to the previous administration.
