BRS leaders accuse Congress of betraying BCs
Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council S Madhusudana Chary on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, alleging that it has consistently betrayed Backward Classes (BCs) since India's independence. Speaking at the Maha Dharna organised by BC organisations at Indira Park on Tuesday, the BRS leader accused Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of being a 'liar and a betrayer of trust.' Labelling him a 'synonym for fraud and conspiracy,' he blamed the Congress party for relegating BCs to 'second-class citizens' in the country. He alleged that the party, which had been in power for sixty years, had 'cheated them by not conducting a caste census, not setting up a BC ministry, and not sharing in wealth creation.' This, he asserted, is why the party has 'lost its roots across the country.' He further criticised that Congress came to power by making 'empty promises' like 42 per cent reservations and an annual allocation of Rs 20 crore for BCs, despite knowing the 'many legal tangles' in conducting a caste census in the state. The BRS leader criticised the government for not demonstrating sincerity in legalising the BC quota since assuming power. MP V Ravichandra alleged that the Congress, which 'came to power by making false promises to BCs in the Kamareddy Declaration, was now completely drowning them.' He stated that BC bills were sent to the President via the Governor but 'no efforts were being made for their approval.' Talasani Srinivas Yadav demanded that 42 per cent reservation be implemented for BCs as per the promise made through Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Kamareddy Declaration. He warned that if they 'try to cheat BCs, the party would create an earthquake.' Lashing out at the caste census for being 'flawed,' Yadav accused the government of 'reducing the BC population by falsely counting 20 lakh people without going to their homes in the capital city.' He demanded that the BC bills be passed and included in the Ninth Schedule at the earliest. Gangula Kamalakar alleged that Congress has a 'history of fraud from then to now.' He accused the party of attempting to secure BC votes before the Assembly elections and now 'showing a stubborn hand.' He demanded that reservations be allocated to the weaker sections according to population ratio.

CPM protests installation of smart meters
Vijayawada: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) is intensifying its agitation against the hike in electricity charges and the imposition of smart meters in Vijayawada. The party has announced a 'Maha Dharna' on July 4 to press its demands. Senior CPM leaders, including State Secretariat Committee member Ch Baburao, toured Prakash Nagar in Vijayawada's 62nd division and Ajit Singh Nagar in the 59th division, listening to residents' grievances. They held public meetings to protest the electricity adjustment charges and the installation of smart meters. Local residents expressed their frustration, stating that instead of a reduction in electricity bills under the current coalition government, they are now burdened with four types of additional adjustment charges. Many reported that their families are being charged nearly double the additional adjustment fees every month. In Prakash Nagar, residents complained that old meters were being removed and prepaid smart meters were installed near the electricity sub-station under the guise of 'meter repair,' without their consent. They termed this as deceptive and unjust. Nagendra Raju, a resident of Ajit Singh Nagar's Luna Centre, voiced his anger, stating that his flour mill's monthly bill shot up from Rs 6,000 to Rs 26,000 after a smart meter was installed. He told the CPM leaders that despite appealing to electricity officials, he was told to pay the bill first and only then would his complaint be investigated. Raju also claimed that officials were giving 'lame excuses' about capacitors causing the increased bills. Addressing the public, Ch Baburao criticised the coalition government, stating that it is unbecoming for a government that came to power promising to reduce burdens to instead increase electricity charges. Baburao urged the public to actively participate in the movement against smart meters and electricity burdens. 'Obstruct and resist smart meters in every street,' he declared. He reminded that TDP leaders, when in opposition, had called for smashing smart meters but are now ordering their installation, thereby 'changing their words and betraying trust.' 'Governments may change, but policies remain the same,' Baburao stated, emphasising the need for unity among people to prevent Adani's exploitation. The CPM pledged to continue their agitation until electricity charges are reduced. CPM leaders BRamanarao, K Durgarao, Ch Srinivas, Peer Saheb, Nagaraju, Punnaiah, Basha, Appanna, and others participated in Monday's foot march.

Maha dharna tomorrow to oppose Op Kagar
Asifabad: TheCPI (ML) New Democracy District Secretary Md Chand Pasha and CPM District Secretariat Member Kota Srinivas called for a Maha Dharna to be held at Indira Park in Hyderabad on June 17 demanding an immediate stop to Operation Kagar. The leaders demanded government to hold peace talks with the Maoists. Posters related to the dharna were unveiled at Ambedkar Square in Asifabad district centre on Sunday. On this occasion, Pasha and Srinivas strongly opposed the killing of tribals and Maoists by Central Paramilitary Armed Forces along with the Saida Police in Dandakaranyam. 'More than 540 people have already been killed in the past year. This is in violation of the Constitution and laws. They are taking the law into their own hands by announcing a deadline of eliminating Naxalites from the country,' he said. He questioned why the Modi government, which is ready to hold peace talks with Pakistan, is not holding peace talks with the Maoists who are continuing their struggle despite having different political views. Both leaders called for a large number of people to participate in the Maha Dharna. Also present in the programme were CITU District President Jadhav Rajender, PDSU District General Secretary Jagajampula Tirupati, and others.

Kavitha leads Telangana Jagruthi's Maha Dharna against notices to KCR
Telangana Jagruthi, led by MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, staged a Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park in Hyderabad on Wednesday (June 4, 2025) against the Justice PC Ghosh Commission of Inquiry's notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. She alleged that the notices were part of a political vendetta targeting KCR. Speaking at the venue of the protest, Ms. Kavitha questioned the rationale behind the notice, asking what wrong KCR had done, particularly in providing water to parched lands and positioning the State at the top in development. She emphasized the magnitude of the Kaleshwaram project, highlighting its extensive infrastructure, including 21 pump houses, 15 reservoirs, and 200 km of tunnels. Ms. Kavitha accused the Congress government of conspiring against the project, which she claimed would provide water to nearly 40 lakh acres and turn Telangana green. She alleged that the State government prioritized commissions and contractors over the State's interests. The BRS MLC demanded that the Congress government in the State write to the Centre to stop the Godavari-Penna linkage project, alleging it was an attempt divert Telangana's water to Andhra Pradesh. She criticised State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for not questioning Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's alleged water theft and expressed disappointment over the silence of the party leaders, including MP Etala Rajender.
