Jack P. Shepherd's ex-girlfriend left with 'eyebrows raised' over star's lavish cathedral wedding to Hanni Treweek as her pals 'mock him for acting like royalty'
Jack P. Shepherd's ex-girlfriend and mother of his two children Lauren Shippey has been reportedly left unimpressed by his wedding to Hanni Treweek last week. The Coronation Street star, 37, tied the knot with his love in a no expenses spared wedding at Manchester Cathedral with the lavish nuptials featuring a star-studded guest list and the groom arriving in a red mustang. While fans were loving the nuptials, it is said that Lauren - who allegedly didn't receive an invite - was left baffled by the 'whole pomp and grandeur' of the big day, which has been compared to the Royal Wedding. A source told The Sun of Lauren's thoughts: 'Lauren can't help but raise eyebrows about the whole thing, she has known Jack for a very long time and has two children with him, so she knows him very well. 'The wedding is not what she or anyone really expected, and the whole pomp and grandeur has left people scratching their heads. 'Her friends have been mocking him for acting like royalty, and she can see why.' The source noted that Lauren - who has a four-year-old daughter with her partner Ben - has 'well and truly moved on' with her life and has 'no hard feelings' for Jack. They noted that Lauren had a 'difficult time' during their relationship and has made 'no secret of the issues' they faced in the past. MailOnline have contacted Jack's representatives for comment. Meanwhile, as friends and family happily gathered to watch the couple say 'I do', one person was notably absent from the celebrations - Jack's 16-year-old daughter Nyla. While Lauren and Jack's other child, 11-year-old son Reuben was present on the day, their teen daughter appeared to be missing from both the ceremony and the evening reception at the Lowry Hotel. Before his relationship with Hanni, Jack was engaged to ex Lauren, who he had been dating since he was 14 and shares two children with. However, in 2010 their relationship hit the rocks when the David Platt actor had an affair that led to a pregnancy. Lauren threw the actor out of the house after he cheated on her and fathered another child called Greyson following a one-night stand with sales executive Sammy Milewski. It is understood that Jack does not have a parental relationship with Greyson other than to pay maintenance, according to The Sun. After the scandal, Jack and Lauren got back together and he even proposed to her with a £3,000 ring after issuing a public apology. He said at the time: 'On Sunday, there were some articles printed about errors I have made in my private life. 'Over the years, I have enjoyed a successful career with Coronation Street, and with this, I have experienced privileges that have exceeded my own expectations. 'The core ingredients to my success have come from the following areas; my family, ITV Granada, and specifically my girlfriend Lauren and daughter Nyla. 'I would like to apologise to my family, for all the hurt and pain I have caused them, to ITV Granada for letting them down, and especially to Lauren and Nyla, who are the most important people in my life. 'I now need to concentrate on what is really important, my family and my career, as I have abused my position as an employee, partner and father, and for that I am deeply sorry.' The couple then got back together, before eventually splitting again in 2017 after 15 years together. Meanwhile, Jack and his long-term love Hanni got engaged during a romantic safari holiday in the Serengeti in June 2024. At the time, the couple posed for loved-up snaps in their safari getups to announce the happy news on social media. Flashing her sparkling engagement ring, Hannah beamed for the camera before kissing her new fiancé. Captioning the snaps, she gushed: '05.06.24 I said YES to forever!!!' Jack and Hanni have been dating since 2017, after meeting on the soap when she worked in the press office. She later became a storyliner on the ITV show, before quitting to work as a fashion influencer. Their big day saw Jack, who has played David since 2000, shared a passionate kiss with Hanni as white confetti fell on them after their wedding ceremony in July. The soapstar cut a dapper figure in a white suit as he arrived in a red mustang with his mother and his son Reuben. Hanni arrived shortly after, and looked gorgeous in an elegant white gown, with lace detail and a long trail. Fellow Corrie star Lucy Fallon was amongst the guests as well as Tina O'Brien, who plays his sister Sarah, and his on-screen wife Julia Goulding. Other Corrie stars in attendance included Samia Longchambon, Colson Smith, Ben Price, Alan Halsall and Jayne Danson.

Jack P. Shepherd and his wife Hanni Treweek shared a glimpse of their Italian honeymoon on Instagram on Wednesday as they ventured out to explore Pompeii. The actor, 37, and his partner Hanni, 35, tied the knot at Manchester Cathedral on Saturday, just over one year after he popped the question while on safari in Africa. After starting their trip in the stunning Amalfi Coast, the pair took a day trip to Naples to see the history of Pompeii. The newlyweds posed for a sweet photo inside the remains before heading back to the Amalfi Coast for a romantic dinner. Alongside a video of their views, Hanni said: 'WOW. 'I'm an emotional, but beautiful, wreck in Italy.' In another short video, the soap star captured the scenery with Italian music in the background before Hanni said: 'Let's go up higher baby'. It comes after Jack upload a clip of Hanni looking out to sea on Monday, he said: 'Little choppy today. A few broken plates. She added: 'A little bit too much chop!' Referencing the Goonies, Jack then joked: 'One-Eyed Willy's cave - where all the gold's kept. That's my room up there. Where I'm staying.' Jack, who has played the iconic David Platt on Coronation Street since 2000, shared a passionate kiss with Hanni as white confetti fell on them after their wedding ceremony at the weekend. They added: 'They have gone all out to make sure it's their dream day and there has been no expensed spared.' Jack and Hanni have been dating since 2017, after meeting on the soap when she worked in the press office. She later became a storyliner on the ITV show, before quitting to work as a fashion influencer. Despite being colleagues, their romance actually began when Jack impressed Hanni at a mutual friend's wedding. Speaking to OK! Magazine in 2020, Jack recalled: 'Then our mutual friends got married and we were both guests at the wedding. 'We got chatting, I made Hanni laugh, we had a couple of drinks and we flirted. That was it.' The duo then later bumped into each other once again in a Sainsbury's, which led to an exchange of texts and a blossoming romance. He told The Daily Star: 'I texted her afterwards and said 'that was awkward' and she told me she thought she looked a mess and then we started texting from there. 'I actually thought she looked fit – I just saw the girl I fancy wearing Lycra! We quickly went on our first date and we just clicked.'

Discovering the meaning behind Manchester's famed symbol
I'm in Manchester and I'm surrounded by bees. They're on benches, bollards, buildings and bins. Look up to see them on lampposts. Look down to see them on the footpath. As I step out of Manchester Cathedral, an impressive sculptural rendition catches my eye. Across the road, there's a mural of them as well — just before a tram glides past, also bearing their image. The humble insect has been a symbol of the vibrant north-western English city since it was added to the Manchester coat of arms in 1842. The small details of a destination can offer a glimpse into the true fabric of a society. Hidden in plain sight, they quietly shape the character of a place. This rings true in the metropolitan city home to nearly three million people. Manchester embraces the worker bee as a proud emblem of its industrial identity. Unlike other British cities that made their wealth through royalty or natural resources, Manchester owes its rise to the hardworking nature of its citizens during the industrial revolution. Even part of Greater Manchester's transport system takes its name from the insect. Next time you visit, keep an eye out for the Bee Network — marked by its distinctive yellow and black buses, trams, cycling routes and walking paths. It may no longer be Cottonopolis, but you don't have to spend long in Manchester to see it's still a thriving hive of activity. The streets buzz with the rhythm of daily life. Footsteps echoing between red-brick buildings, the chatter of students spilling out of cafes and cyclists weaving through traffic. When wandering through the Central Library in St Peter's Square, I couldn't help but notice how its top floor, named the Great Hall, resembles a beehive in library form, with people busily working away at their desks. Worker bees are solely insignificant but collectively formidable — a fitting symbol for the thousands of factory workers who were cogs in the wheel of the world's first industrial city. For those curious to learn more about various aspects of Manchester's industrial history, here are four places you can visit. The National Trust property is one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites. Located in Styl, near Manchester Airport, the beautifully preserved cotton mill was one of the first water-propelled spinning mills to be built during the early years of the Industrial Revolution, in 1784. Owned by the Greg family and home to hundreds of mill workers and child apprentices, Quarry Bank quickly became one of the largest cotton manufacturing businesses in the world. You can explore inside the mill and watch its machinery in action. It's rather noisy in there but a fascinating experience nonetheless. The Quarry Bank House, once home to owners Hannah and Samuel Greg, is also worth a visit. There's also the Styl village, the Apprentice House (where child workers lived), the gardens and woodland estate to explore. Opening times vary between attractions. The Oxford Road museum is part of the University of Manchester, and it has a dedicated textiles gallery connecting art and early industrial links. It's home to 20,000 textiles from around the globe, ranging from the third century AD to the present. Textiles play a massive part in Manchester's industrial history given its status as the international centre of the cotton and textile trade in the 19th century. The city was nicknamed 'Cottonopolis' for its more than 100 cotton mills producing an astounding amount of cloth. Between 1800 and 1860, Britain's cotton exports reportedly rose from £5.4 million ($11.2m) to £46.8 million ($97m) as the country produced almost half the world's total output of cotton. Whitworth is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm, and on Thursdays until 9pm. For those interested in Manchester's contribution to the development of science, technology and industry, visiting the Science and Industry Museum is a must. It showcases just how pivotal the city was in the wider Industrial Revolution. Its Textiles Gallery has an array of historic machinery used in cotton mills in England's north-west. The museum often hosts demonstrations to tell the story of how cotton was transformed from its raw form into finished cloth. Though they came after the Industrial Revolution, two interesting objects in the museum's Manchester Revolution exhibition are worth checking out. The first is a small-scale experimental machine affectionately known as the 'Manchester Baby'. Built in 1948 at the University of Manchester, it was the first computer to store and run a program from memory — the basis for billions of computers today. The second is a Rolls-Royce made in 1905 which was one of the first Rolls-Royce motorcars ever built. The now internationally renowned company originated in Manchester. Open daily from 10am to 5pm. Last but not least is the Museum of Transport, Greater Manchester. In a historic 1901 tram shed and 1930s bus garage, the museum showcases a fascinating insight into how public transport evolved alongside industrial growth, with more than 70 vintage vehicles to see, from horse-drawn carriages to early buses and trams. There's also a tearoom and gift shop on-site. Open Wednesdays and weekends, 10am to 4.30pm.

COVID Day of Reflection: When is it and what events are happening to mark five years since start of pandemic?
Five years on from the start of the COVID pandemic, the UK will mark a nationwide Day of Reflection. The deadly virus shut down the world after it began to spread from Wuhan in China at the beginning of 2020. Between March 2020 and July 2022, an estimated 180,000 people died after contracting COVID in England and Wales, according to figures published by The King's Fund thinktank. To commemorate the unprecedented period, an annual day of reflection was one of 10 recommendations set out by the UK Commission on COVID Commemoration back in 2023. This year, events around England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have been organised by local councils and community groups to mark the fifth anniversary. Here is everything you need to know about the day, and how to get involved. What is the Day of Reflection and when is it? This year's COVID Day of Reflection is on Sunday, 9 March. The UK government said the day will be an opportunity for the public to remember those who lost their lives, as well as reflect on the impact the virus had on daily lives, and pay tribute to all frontline workers. What events are going on? Governments and local councils from across the four nations have announced they are taking part in the Day of Reflection. In London, a procession is planned along the National COVID Memorial Wall in Westminster. At the far end of the wall there will be a brief ceremony and guests will be invited to cast flowers into the Thames from Lambeth Bridge. Also in the capital, special evensong services will be held at St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, which will include readings, music, and prayers. The event at St Paul's is for ticket-holders only. At Euston station, a minute's silence will be held at midday. An invite-only event is also planned to take place at the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield, Staffordshire. Author and poet Michael Rosen will speak at the event and soprano Lesley Garrett will perform. Manchester Cathedral will host a special prayer service, honouring and reflecting on the unique challenges faced by the Black, Caribbean and African community during the pandemic. In Wales, the yellow heart memorial, made up of yellow stones on the side of a mountain in the village of Bwlch, will be restored, while families who lost loved ones during the pandemic will gather to plant trees in the Ynys Hywel COVID memorial woodland. In Scotland, a wreath will be laid at the memorial bench behind Pollock House in Glasgow followed by a release of doves. In the northern town of Wick, a film documenting how people in the Scottish Highlands experienced the pandemic will be premiered. In Northern Ireland, Belfast City Hall will light up yellow to remember those lost during the pandemic. A reflection concert will also be held at 2 Royal Avenue in the city centre, where singers from The National Lottery Community Fund, Belfast Rock Choir and 11-year-old social media sensation Isla Loves will perform. Numerous grief support groups have also been set up in locations across the country. A full list of planned events can be found on the government website here. What has the government said? Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said the Day of Reflection is an "opportunity to remember the friends and loved ones that we lost, as well as the sacrifices that so many people made". She said people could take part by attending or organising a community event, or remembering in their own way at home. 3:17 Chair of the COVID Commemoration Commission Baroness Morgan of Cotes added: "As each year passes since the height of the pandemic it can feel as if COVID is more and more of a distant memory. "And yet I know from the conversations the UK COVID Commemoration Commissioners had, that those who lost loved ones appreciate a day when many others will also remember those who lost their lives with them."
