Jun. 4—A 69-year-old Austin woman was injured Tuesday afternoon after her vehicle and a semi collided on Interstate 90 one mile east of Albert Lea. Titian Elizabeth Butash was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for injuries deemed not life-threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The report stated Butash was driving a 2007 Ford Focus eastbound on I-90 near milepost 158, along with a 2020 Peterbilt semi truck driven by Spencer John Theis, 33, of Belle Plaine, when the two vehicles collided at 3:26 p.m. Theis was not injured. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor, the report stated. The Clarks Grove Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Mar. 19—One person was injured Wednesday morning after a semi and straight truck collided on Interstate 35 south of Clarks Grove. Bakar Oniani, 34, of Brooklyn, New York, was taken by Mayo Clinic Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for injuries deemed not life-threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The report stated Oniani was driving a 2024 Volvo semi southbound on I-35, and Jared Allen Besser, 44, of Clarks Grove, was driving a 2016 Freightliner straight truck southbound when the two trucks collided at 10:21 a.m. near milepost 16. The roads were covered in snow and ice at the time of the crash. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor. The Freeborn County Sheriff's Office and Clarks Grove Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Two Austin women injured in Interstate 90 crash Friday

Feb. 17—OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, Minn. — Two Austin women were injured in a single-vehicle crash Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, on Interstate 90 in Freeborn County. A 2004 Ford Explorer was westbound on I-90 when it lost control and rolled near milepost 173 around 4:22 p.m., according to a Minnesota State Patrol crash report. The driver, Jasmine Lee Flink Whelan, 27, of Austin, was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger, Daisy Raven Whelan, 24, of Austin, was also transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with non-life-threatening injuries. Another passenger, an infant boy, was not injured. The road conditions were reported as snow/ice at the time of the crash. Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the scene.
