McDonald's Japan announces Pokémon Trading Card Happy Meals with guaranteed Pikachus

You don't need to specifically choose Pikachu, because it's a promise that he'll be in your Happy Meal. McDonald's Japan is right in the middle of a collaboration with Sanrio, currently serving up Happy Meals with summer suntanned Hello Kitty Toys. But cravings for burgers and fries will always return, and so McDonald's is already planning its next team-up with a superstar character in Japan, and this time it's Pikachu. Coming on August 8 is a new line of Pokémon Happy Meal toys, and fans of the franchise have most likely now marked that date on their calendars. If you can hold off until the next day, though, there's something even better, as in addition to the toy, you'll also get exclusive Pokémon Trading Card Game cards! The lineup consists of a half-dozen Pocket Monster species, including Riolu, Ralts, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starters Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Then, of course, there's Pikachu, whose card features an adorable illustration of the franchise mascot sitting in a restaurant booth and about to dig into a delicious hamburger. Well, actually, judging from the way the cutlery on the table is oriented, he's asking for a bite of the burger ordered by the Pokémon Trainer who's taken him along on this McDonald's run, but come on, get serious, there's no way anyone would ever say no to such a heart meltingly cute appeal. 8/8(金)~ハッピーセット®にポケモンのおもちゃが登場!8/9(土)〜8/11(月)はポケモンカードも もらえるよ!#ポケモン #ポケカ — マクドナルド (@McDonaldsJapan) July 15, 2025 With a total of six designs, though, you might be wondering how many Happy Meals you're going to have to order in order to snag the Pikachu card, but that's where the deal gets really sweet. Each Happy Meal comes with two Pokémon cards, and one of them is guaranteed to be Pikachu. However, while the odds are in your favor, time isn't necessarily on your side. McDonald's is yet to say how long the Pokémon Happy Meal will be available for, but usually each toy theme runs for about two weeks. The Pokémon cards, however, will only be given out on August 9, 10, and 11. And should you decide to go on august 8 as well to make extra-sure you don't miss out on the toys, ending up with a bunch of leftover McDonald's French fries in the process, we've got some tasty ideas for how to reuse them. Bride Loves McDonald's, so She Knew Just What To Do on Her Wedding Day

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A couple has gone viral for adding a McDonalds-themed twist to their recent wedding—and their guest loved it. Emily Zimmerman, from Chicago, recently married her now-husband, DJ, in Green Lake, Wisconsin. Near the end of the night, they wanted to give their guests an energy boost after hours of dancing and socializing. And Zimmerman, who works in marketing for McDonald's corporate, knew exactly what food would do the job. "Because I work for McDonald's corporate I always knew I wanted to have it as a late night snack," she told Newsweek, adding that "all of our friends encouraged us, too." Emily Zimmerman and her husband, DJ, celebrate their wedding with a McDonald's buffet at the end of the night. TikTok @emilyayay17 Zimmerman shared a snippet of her big day to her TikTok account @emilyayay17 on May 31, showing the McDonald's buffet set-up, with a sign declaring Mr and Mrs—in the iconic golden arches typeset. On offer were cheeseburgers, nuggets and fries, complete with sachets of sauce—and all available to be packed into specially designed Happy Meal boxes. Late-night snacks, after the dinner and cutting of the cake, is an option some couples choose to start winding down the night. Wedding websiteThe Knot suggest doling out sweet treats or fried snacks, or even hiring a food truck to cater to guests. In the video, Zimmerman tucked into a burger while wearing her sparkling white wedding gown. And, adding to the theme, the couple posed outside a local restaurant which had set up a sign declaring "Congratulations Emily and DJ." "I worked with the local franchisee and he surprised us the weekend of our wedding by putting our names on the McDonald's road signs," she told Newsweek. "So we stopped there after the church to take a picture with the sign. So kind of him!" While it's unclear how much the spread cost, Zimmerman said it was a huge hit with her guests, adding they "loved it." "It was by far one of the most complimented things at our wedding. We actually had a fireworks display on the lake, and when our guests went back inside, McDonald's was waiting for them!" Zimmerman said. TikTok @emilyayay17 TikTok users, too, had a big reaction to the video, viewing it more than 4.2 million times and awarding it 700,000 likes, as one commenter joked: "Congrats on your McMarriage." "Are you McKidding me?," another asked, as one asked about the Happy Meals "What toy did you get?" And another commenter admitted: "I don't love working at any job this much." Zimmerman said she's noticed "a huge trend" in weddings to "do a late-night snack of some sort. "I've been to weddings that serve pizza, or tacos, etc and for us, we felt it was only right to do McDonald's," she said, adding: "Because who doesn't love some McDonald's after a late night out?" JJJJound Transforms Its Packaging Into Artisan Lamps Crafted by Gyuhan Lee

JJJJound's latest collaboration departs from its fashion-focused projects to present a first-of-its-kind JJJJound lamp crafted by Korean artistGyuhuan Leeusing the label's packaging materials. Aiming to maximize the role of packaging materials beyond their usual function, the design's resourceful approach explores the intersection of branding, consumer culture, and centuries-spanning handicraft. Drawing from the grid proportions of minimalist architecture, the lamps boast a square shape and are offered in a short and a tall edition. When turned off, the lamps resemble mundane cardboard packages, but when turned on, a warm, soft glow transforms the lantern into a refined piece of collectible homeware. Lee, known for his refined pieces made from upcycled paper materials, utilized JJJJound's paper bags and box tape for the project. With his skills rooted in traditional Eastern craftsmanship, the artist layered JJJJound's materials with Korean Hanji paper, a historic textile applied to heritage interiors. The final result is a synthesis of contemporary mass-produced components and traditional craftsmanship, much in line with JJJJound's design practice, which often involves subtle, quality-focused updates to existing designs. In previous projects, Lee has utilized everything fromMcDonald'sHappy Meal bags,Nikeshoe boxes, andHermèsPlein Air blotting papers to create unique furniture pieces and lighting designs. His work represents a growing movement in design that adapts recognizable found and upcycled materials as components for new, imaginative objects. The JJJJound x Gyuhuan Leee lamps are set to drop June 5 at 12 PM EST.

Macca's has announced Squishmallows — a brand of soft, plush toys known for its 'marshmallow-like' texture — will be available in its popular kids meals from May 29. The brand will have 14 characters available with expressions that are exclusive to the fast food chain. These included Rossi, the purple cheetah with pink spots, and Charles, the winking green pickle. But, there are even characters who are debuting as part of the range. 'This limited-time Happy Meal brings a taste of the viral toy sensation to Macca's, with the first McDonald's Squishmallows Squad. Whether you're joining the hunt to collect them all or just looking for a dose of happiness, there's a Squishmallow for every kind of fan with this new Happy Meal.' Meanwhile, Gerhard Runken, the executive vice president of brand and marketing for the company that makes Squishmallows, said: 'Our first McDonald's Happy Meal collaboration received such a massive global response that we're bringing it to Australia for the very first time. 'We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate our fans than with a Happy Meal featuring character favourites with unique, never-before-seen happy expressions and the debut of our newest Squishmallow Squad member Halley, making the search exciting as ever for fans worldwide.' Halley is only available in Australia and New Zealand. Picture: Supplied It's no surprise that Macca's has picked up this as its next Happy Meal toy, following the popularity of the item not only with children but with teenagers and adults too. The 'kidult' trend — items designed for kids but popular with all ages — has taken off in recent months. Footage has shown Aussies lining up at 3am for Labubu, a furry plushie featuring a bizarre grin and sharp teeth. The item has become the ultimate status-boosting item after soaring to popularity with huge celebrities such as Rihanna and Dua Lipa. Designed by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, the product is sold by Chinese toy company Pop Mart following a collaboration with Lung on his story series book The Monsters, released in 2015. A similar item — Jellycats — has also been a hit item with all ages, with David Jones telling 'We've seen strong demand for the brand and an increase in sales in not only their iconic bunny which they are best known for but also more niche/unique styles,' a David Jones spokesperson told 'There has also been a noticeable shift in the consumer who is buying this product, traditionally bought for children we have seen demand from Gen Z thanks to social media driving the trend among this group.'
