Bong Joon Ho's ‘Mickey 17' Sets HBO Max Premiere Date
Warner Bros announced on Friday that Mickey 17, its dark sci-fi comedy starring Robert Pattinson (The Batman), will make its global streaming debut on HBO Max on Friday, May 23. The film will debut on HBO linear at 7:40 p.m. ET. on Saturday, May 24. Written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, the filmmaker behind historic Oscar winner Parasite, Mickey 17 adapts the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. The story follows unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Pattinson), who has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living. 'Mickey 17' to stream May 23 on HBO Max
May 16 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. announced Friday that Mickey 17 will stream on Max beginning May 23. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, who gets a job that requires him to repeatedly die. Bong Joon Ho, who is best known for directing the 2019 film Parasite and the 2013 feature Snowpiercer, penned the script and served as Mickey 17's director. Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo also star. Edward Ashton's book, titled Mickey7, served as the movie's inspiration. Mickey 17 opened in theaters in March.

Mickey 17, the sci-fi black comedy film from Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho, is set to make its global streaming debut on Max on Friday, May 23. The film marked the return of Bong Joon-ho to the world of filmmaking after his Oscar-winning film, Parasite. Warner Bros. confirmed that Mickey 17, apart from being released on Max on May 23, will also premiere on HBO's linear channel the following day, Saturday, May 24, at 7:40 p.m. ET. Starring Robert Pattinson, the film is based on Edward Ashton's 2022 novel Mickey7 and presents a dystopian twist on the concept of workplace loyalty. Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, an 'Expendable' — a disposable employee who is cloned each time he dies while carrying out dangerous missions for a human colony on a distant planet in the year 2054. The story blends biting humour with existential themes, exploring the human cost of survival and the absurdity of expendability. Mickey 17 premiered to strong reviews at Leicester Square in London on February 13, 2025, before screening at the 75th Berlin Film Festival. It was released theatrically in South Korea on February 28 and in the United States on March 7.
